OK so a bit random but was discussing the excellent use of short throw projection used by last nights Eurovision winner and I tried to find a video of my favourite use of an IWB. It was an American lecturer, either maths or science, possibly an end of year lecture who had recorded his desktop and himself so when it was played back he was talking to himself, the recorded man was messing with icons, deleting files etc. It was very clever and very funny but my Google-fu has failed me and I can't find it. Anyone have the slightest clue what I'm talking about or have I finally lost the plot? Andrew

Cheers I've finished writing and testing my script to remove Sophos Enterprise 10 using PDQ Deploy so its just the automated roll-out of the client that's holding me back now (1000 PC's, three sites...) Very interested if you hear anything after half term Andrew

Just checked and all my DC's and workstations are within a second of each other, like you I sync through an atomic clock. Just to double check which rules you use, these are the ones I have whitelisted through my unauthenticated proxy:- iabs.u.avast.com avast.com.edgesuite.net a1639.g1.akamai.net Anything I have missed? Pretty much got this setup as I want it now, ready to roll it out to a lab for student testing... One thing I can't find is if there is a silent scripted install that I can use, preferably from the downloaded full installer rather than from the slimline on-line version? I've seen a few hacks with AutoIT but not seen a script. Anyone cracked this yet? Andrew

Hi Silent mode is enabled, shows in both the console and also I have silent\gaming mode ticked on my taskbar. I'll have a dig through the ini files and see if I can find it in there. It's also taking a dislike to my portable version of firefox even though I have it's file path in the exclude folder. I'm sure these are just minor quirks as I get to grips with it's settings. And yes, potentially replacing 1000 Sophos licences with this if I feel it's on a par Andrew

Got this on 5 test PC's and so far so good. All the settings are populating to the PC's and the integration with Outlook is working. The only thing I missed was one of the proxy exceptions is *.iabs.u.avast.com (an i) not *.labs.u.avast.com as I first read it!!! The only irritant thus far appears to be its willingness to prompt the user to reboot after an update. I can't find where to disable this in the console or is this something I need to change manually in the ini files in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast? Can anyone whose using this point me to the blindingly obvious place I've missed? Cheers Andrew

Hi Apologies for digging this thread back up but I'm now faced with the same situation. I have a lower school VI student who needs the same requirement, however I've just looked at his timetable and I see that he's in 15 different rooms during the week. My big concern with installing any type of VNC software on the staff IWB PC's is one of security. Many of our teachers set work on the projector, then freeze the display and work in their own emails, SIMS etc which the students obviously can't see (all our teacher PC's screens can't be physically seen by the students). Clearly any form of VNC software isn't going to be frozen and potentially the student will be looking over the teachers shoulder at confidential information/student grades etc. My LEA is saying they have schools where VNC is fine (but after checking their reference sites, they are primaries where the student doesn't move...). Is there any way of doing this or is a simpler solution to sit them at the front and get the teacher to email them screen shots or the student to use the camera and photo the whiteboard as they go? Been playing with a Gigabyte Brix Ultra Compact PC and am very impressed. Added a SSD and 4Gb RAM to the bare bones kit, installed Windows 8.1 64bit and our CCTV software and it copes brilliantly with 12 simultaneous camera views. We'll be getting a few more of these next week to replace our aging pizza box PC's driving the info screens. Thanks for all the feedback in this thread Andrew

Used to be geological names for all our servers here (Baslat, Quartz, Feldspar, Obsidian, Granite, Nebula, Sandstone, Opal, Gabbro and for reasons unknown Vitrophyre!!) as the previous NW Manager clearly thought it would impress the HT (who teaches Geology...) Slowly been phasing that naming scheme out as servers get replaced, much more boring names these days like XYZ-MAIL, XYX-DC1 etc

We've cloned 400 pc's from hdd's to ssd's using ghost without any issues thus far. Only issue was the odd hdd that needed defragging before imaging as ghost reported insufficient disk space on the ssd slave...

As far as I can tell it builds a list of PC names either by you typing them in manually, picking them from AD, importing from their inventory software etc. I don't think (but happy to be proved wrong) that it rescans AD OU's to dynamically maintain the list of pc's, that's a manual admin job. With regards to installs, it only installs what it needs, for example my 100 PC test installed everything in 25 mins. I ran it again just updating AIR (new version had just come out) and the same job finished in 5 mins with everything skipped apart from AIR. The rescanning of apps is done through scheduling which is part of the pro and enterprise versions, scheduling isn't in the free version. It's not perfect but it's certainly something I can work with.

It uses DNS resolution and the admin$ share to target pc's and will only install packages if they are needed so copes easily with reimaged pc's with the same name. It's very good at fresh installs, I've tried 2 things so far, one a fresh build and one that had 12 updates (flash Java Air etc) which I sent to 100 pc's and it did the lot in 25 mins. Very impressed so far

Because despite just about every geek ever asking M$ to update it, BGInfo hasn't been updated for years and that option works for Windows XP/98/95 etc but no longer works for Windows 7+

Been trialing this for the last 24 hours, have to say I'm very impressed especially with the added packages in the Click pack. Have just told finance to go ahead and purchase a licence, at $450 pa it's a steal

+1 for the Universal drivers. I'm running the PCL6 drivers v61.141.1.15198 which isn't the latest but they have been rock solid for me, running 14 different types of HP printers including HPCLJ's.

Hi What is the smallest (in relation to size) and preferably cheapest Windows 8 PC that I can purchase. Need a few fully functional Windows PC's to hide behind 40" TV screens. Can't use a Pi for this project as it has to run a 32bit Windows application rather than anything web based etc. These will be CCTV monitoring screens for HM, Site team etc. Thanks for any suggestions Andrew
