Are both Net Frameworks installed now by Windows Updates or do you have to do a manual install of them.? Do you have to install 1.1 as well as 2.0 or can you just install 2.0? Example If i do a clean install of XP Pro which has SP2 integrated, then went online and did a Windows Update, are the Net Frameworks pulled down as part of the update or do you have to do manual install of the Frameworks?

I only found out about this policy recently and it has made my life so much easier as to permissons problems on profiles.

If i have a folder path of C:\folder A\folder B\my folder what line could i use in a CMD file to copy 'My Folder' and all its subfolders and files to the root of C:\ ? COuld someone give me ideas?

Could someone please give me the code i would use in a CMD file that would delete a folder on the c:drive and all that folders sub folders and contents?

I have a Dell Latitude 510 laptop, I have been offered a older Latitude 500 for spare parts. As far as i know the Latitude 500 has a broken screen and no HD the rest is fine. I doubt if i would repair it fully because of the cost but i wondered if the memory in the 500 would fit/be compatible with my 510. I have tried the Dell site but cant make head nor tail of it. Does anyone know if it would be compatible.?

I have a USB keyboard and mouse on my PC. Problem i have is booting in the BIOS or Safe Mode. On boot up the computer does not recognise the Keyboard so i cant get into Bios or Safe Mode. IS this normal? Is there any setting in the bios than can alter this?

I was looking into all sorts of possible MCSE training and i stumbled across the Boot Camps. I know they are very expensive but i wondered if any one had or knew of anyone who had done one of this style training camps. I know my cousin in America said they are very big in the states. A quick search on Google found a couple of companies in the UK that do them but they are very expensive and I imagine them to be very intense for 14 days of work. There is even a company that fly you to the states (Florida) and you spent 14 days in a boot camp there. Just wondered on your thoughts on this one.

My mate has a 108 wireless router which has 5 LAN ports on it. He has just bought a 300gb NAS storage box for his network. The NAS ha a 1gb NIc and his two PC in his one office have 1GB NIC as well. He is thinking buying a 5 po1GB switch which will be then hard wired back to the router in the other office. If he connects both PCs with 1GB nics and also connects the storage server to the !GB switch as well, will the then transfer data between the 3 at 1GB? I know the link from the 1GB switch is going back to a 100mb router but surely the traffic between those 3 devises will travel at 1gb? I know any other machines on the LAN will not because they will be wired/wireless through the router can someone confirm this for me please?

Something i have never done myself. I had a ICT teacher who wanted to upgrade his XP Home computer to X Pro so he could use IIS while working on some web development stuff. He asked me if he could just do a in place upgrade and if so would it affect his currently installed software. Also would it leave all the users intact in Documents and settings? I have no idea as i have never done it, Would always prefer to do a fresh install and reinstall my software. Can this be done and if so is thee any website with a run through?

I have been in a school today and noticed the permissions on the user areas for the pupils. On the individual pupils folders the y are 'Domain Admins' Full Control' and the 'user Full Control' I always thought that thee should be other NTFS permissions in here as well. Its one of those things when you start to question yourself and wonder which is the correct set up of permissions. Does anyone know what it should be or what Microsoft recommend?

I have been give two old computers by a friends dad who had had two brand new ones for his work. One is a AMD 2100 CPU (5years old)with 512 DDR the other is Celeron 2.8 with 512ddr. (3years old) I am going to keep one for myself and give the other to my cousin. Which is the best PC to keep and why purely on performance?

I have been working on a few unattended install over the last few days, some for the network but also some from disc. I want the disc option to fully unattended and I have the below in my .sif file I think i may be going mad but i hope someone can help me. I have only really tinkered with sif files before on a basic basis. I find that if the hard drive is not formatted in the PC or Laptop then the disc works with no need to in out anything. But if the HD has had a previous install of windows then it always seems to stop and ask if i want to repair or install a new copy. I want the sif file to just format what ever is on the HD and then do a fresh install of windows xp Can some one point me in the right direction or am i going mad?

The school i am thinking of doing this in has a newish Dell Server. I have readmore about it now and noticed similar posts on the forum. I think i need to team the cards and also configure the ports on the switch, but to be honest its a bit over my head at the moment.

Update. We still have this issue on now 1 machine only. We solved the problems of the others by deleting the roaming profile of the user and recreating it. But the strange thing is we have one machine that still plays up. We have now re-imaged this PC but as soon as it was used again it came up with this 'Windows is not Genuine' again. Now if we go to the machine log on as admin then log off the waring goes away and the user can use it again with no problems. When the machine is shutdown at night and then started up the next morning the problem comes back and if we log in as admin it works again. I know the CD key is ok and i Know the image is ok because we have 70 other PC's with the same image with out the problem. Anyone have anymore suggestions?

I have checked this and it reports that everything is OK. But the light is still on permanently. The blind test works fine on the light that should be on but the light that normally flashes randomly when data is being written is permanently on. Any other suggestions?

What sort of problems did you get steve? Poor log on times, access times? How do you know it was DNS

As i have said before my server knowledge is not great and i am learning all the time. I noticed today that in a primary school ( which used to have outreach support 2 days a week, and the guy has now left) that one server which is a file server had both NICs on the server wired up. I checked ipconfig /all and sure enough they both had IP address. The on NIC had a reserved IP in DHCP and the other NIC had a manually configure IP in the same range. If you ping the server by name it replies with the manually configure IP which ends in .1, But in DHCP and all the server records the reserved IP which ends in .13 is the one that should be the one being used. Could this cause a configuration problem? I know you can configure load balancing in 2003 but having two NIC live i am not at all sure about. Can you advise me please?
