Do any of you deploy this software via AD. I need to deploy it to quite a lot of laptops in one go. Do any of you have a guide how best to do this?

i have a problem on one of our Primary networks with users home drives not mapping every time. It seems very random and no set pattern at all. One minute their drive maps fine to using the letter H, then the next time they log on it maps only to the root of the home directory folder so then the have no access tot heir work. I have tried all sorts of things and it still keeps haunting me. Any idea?

I am using the RemoteDesktop.mmc with all my servers in in it not mstsc.

I recently installed Exchange 2007 and have been using it purely internally for the last 3 months. I know the GUI is completely different to 2003, but in 2003 i could go to Exchange System Management console and look at the users mailbox size, last logged in time etc. CAn you now get at this info in Exchange 2007 in the same way?

I was checking our WSUS server the other day when i noticed it does not list the DC's. I also noticed that when my other server receive the updates via WSUS the DC's don't. Is this correct or have i set up my WSUS incorrectly?

I check the event log on all the servers i have access to at least once a week. I have noticed on nearly all the servers are having the same errors in the 'System' part of the event log. I think its something trivial but is really starting to get to me. THe error is all to do with printers. The error is something like this, ' Drivers for HP2115n laser series is unknown. Contact the administrator to install driver before you login' THis happens no matter what the printer model so i guess its something to do with the Terminal Service login. CAn some one shed some light on this problem please?

I seem to remember there being a issue with the way RIS works when SP2 was installed. Next week i need to go on site to a school who has had another server delivered. I plan to install 2003 with SP2 but i need advice on RIS. THey want to use this server as a RIS server ( amongst other things) and i am unsure as the implications i need to know. Do i install 2003 first, then set up RIS, then install SP2 or just Install 2003 then SP2 then RIS? What happens for example with a server that already has RIS installed but has never had SP2 applied yet? Bit nervous about doing this.

As of yet i have not deployed XP SP3 via WSUS. I have got to re-image a lot of PC's this summer and I plan to do some of them by putting SP3 on the image. But I will have over half the clients still without SP3. Has anyone deployed SP3 via WSUS? My main question is time it takes to install. Once the client picks it up how long does it take the SP to install? Does it run in the background not really affecting the user? Does it then prompt the user to reboot or does it take its settings from GPO which in our case waits for a manual reboot? Does it have a major impact on the network ( say if it was deployed to 100 clients in one go?)

One of the secondary schools i help support is slowly having problems with falling pupils on role. This is partly due to pupil numbers falling in the area but also due to 3 secondary schools being very close to each other. Do your schools have similar problems and if so what to do you to to encourage pupils to your school?

I am new to Sims and need help on permissions. MOre and more i get asked to help other staff with their sims roles. I have the sysman ID and password. But every time there is a update and things don't work for certain staff i get roped in to help. Now, my knowledge is getting better but one thing confuses me. I thought that the Sysman account has access to everything in Sims (not FMS) but the more and more i try and use it to solve problems i find i, logged in as sysman dont get certain menus other staff do. Is there an account that has access to everything? Should the SYSMan account have? Can I set a account up to have access to everything or is this bad practice?

I know this topic has been covered before but mine is slightly different. I have a HP2600 installed on our print server (one of 5) and it is mapped out via script to 10 admin based users for occasional print. Problem is when they come to print it does not, the job appears to go through but nothing prints out. If i connect directly to the printer on the print server and send a test job it prints fine so i know there is no problem with the actual print server. Problem i have is when a user goes to print nothing happens. But remote the PC through compmgmt and restart the spooler manually it works perfectly after that. It is if the spooler has gone to sleep but the locally attached printers still work. doing my head in...................!

Whats the best way i can achieve this? I need to keep both physical devices so a software option is not possible. What is my cheapest option to accomplish this? Point me to the right piece of kit to purchase?

Sorry to jump on this as well, I have tried this and it works after running twice, is there a way we can put a pause in after adding the training user. I think the script runs too quick to do both at the same time. Also can a passsword be added?

Anyone have a work around for this problem

One of the schools I visit has had some funding to put in a lot of Promethean boards in. They currently have a mix of Hitachi and Smartboards. The person in charge of the funding has put together a package which involves quite a lot of Promethean kit. The school has been advised that all of their current boards (smart and Cambridge Hitachi) will work with the Promethean software?????? Is this true. I have read about these Active Hubs that are liek a USB dongle that lets the staff laptop connect with the Actvie Vote and Active Expression but is laso supposed to let the Promethean hand writing software recognition work on none Promethean boards??? To be honest i don't know much about mix and match boards as most of the schools i visit are either Smart or Promethean. Can some one in the know advise me on the above? Does the Prom software work on other boards?

Dartfish is very good but like you mentioned is Expensive. i also know of Webbsoft but not sure of the costs for that.

Anyone using this software and if so could i pick someones brains on how to correctly install?

I have several NT Backups running which when set up were set to append. We now want them to be set to overwrite. When i open the existing back up i can't seem to find out how to change the setting to overwrite. The only thing i have done so far is delete the original back up job and re-create it from scratch and i don't want to do this on all of them hence this post? Any ideas?

Iused a vbscript to do this on OCX files i needed to register. Let me know if yu need it.

BSF is getting closer for our LEA and a rumour tells me its down to two or three companies ( i cannot confirm this ) I have a few questions. 1. Can a BSF contract winner force a change in the MIS you use? ie; if they state all must use Sims but a few schools in the LEA have CMiS? 2. Can the also force a change in VLE to their own and make you move away from your current one? 3. Has anyone been involved in a school where RM have taken over? 4. if you job is purely a MiS manager and nothing to do with ICT support do you still come under the technicians/NM umbrella for being TUPED?

I have had a few laptops come inthat i want to set up a RIS image for. The laptop HDD's are formatted into 3 partitions. Is it possible in my RIS answer file to tell it to delete all the partitons on the drrve and set up one C:? This is the top part of my sif file but no matter what i try with it it still does not delete the partitons and complains it cannot fit windows onthe c: drive.

Slight Off topic a little. I want to set up a policy in one of our GPO's. I have set one up but to be honest don't really understand it. It I have set the access point up to broadcast a SSID and also ask for a password. Can i automate the password bit in the GPO setting? Also we currently restrict by MAC address as well. Can this be automated or is there no need for MAC address restriction if done by GPO. Idits proof answers only please :-)

I need to get a Mimio software MSI for deployment through GPO. I have checked the CD and its an EXE. I have not tried to repackage it yet but i wondered if anyoen else has tried to do this or knows if this can or can't be done. ;-)
