No, not at all. I bought my girlfriend a 32gig one for Christmas as well, she uses hers at work and streams iPlayer all evening. Not seen those problems either.
-
@Arthur I think you must have something seriously wrong with your tablet, is it running a custom ROM, overheating or something? I've been running the app you suggested for over a week, some heavy ingress use over two weekends and the usual iPlayer, browser, email and games throughout the week. Still not had a single reported crash or reboot on mine. GF's is the same, crash count =0

Yes we have a few. THey are ok, definitely look neat. Some of the problems we encountered are: trunking size seems to be an odd (perhaps US standard) and needed to be 'encouraged' into the trunking. Occasionally seem to loose settings. Very expensive for a thin client (£300ea IIRC) Run quite warm in the trunking (no big deal) THey charge extra for management software (we only have a few and don't use it)

Wireless bird box camera advice wanted
CyberNerd replied to PrimaryTech's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
battery and wifi might be a tall order. I'd go for PoE. -
Does such a thing exist? eg writing with a pen over a video clip while the students are watching a clip of their e.g. football game where the teacher circles a player and then shows with an arrow where s/he should go etc rather than a permanent editing of a video clip.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

A deflector shield generator on the exhaust port, or even a small tractor beam would be much better suited.
-
So the proton torpedo's miss and are just impacted off the surface? I hardly think that is a suitable solution, all it would take is a small single manned fighter to blast away the chicken wire with laser cannons and then fire the proton torpedo.
-
as long as they patch that stupid exhaust port "feature" count me in.

ZFS and samba cluster an option? Deployment Example: Installing Samba in an HA Container (Sun Cluster Data Service for Samba Guide for Solaris OS) how about GFS2? https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Cluster_Administration/ch-clustered-samba-CA.html

ok - this is how our year 8 drives look (shared access by all of yr 8 and writable by teachers) drwxrws---+ 15 root domain admins 4096 Nov 29 09:32 11 the directory is called 11 # file: 11 # owner: root # group: domain\040admins # flags: -s- user::rwx group::rwx group:staff:rwx group:11:r-x mask::rwx other::--- ie - the files are owned by root and "domain admins" but readable by students of the "11" group (yr 8 ) and writable by staff. for homedrives: drwxrws---+ 11 11tsmith domain admins 4096 Feb 7 09:57 11tsmith # file: 11tsmith/ # owner: 11tsmith # group: domain\040admins # flags: -s- user::rwx user:11tsmith:rwx group::rwx group:domain\040admins:rwx group:teachers:r-x mask::rwx other::--- Homedrive is owned by the student and "domain admins" and readable by teachers.
-
does default:group::--- mean "domain users" can't access it? or is group::r-x the important bit? Try logging in as a student "sudo 07teststudent" and then reading/writing to the directory I guess would be a good start. Where's @Geoff when you need him!
-
Indeed - you need to check three (four) things with the permissions: 1) the POSIX permissions "ls -l" 2) The ACL permissions "getfacl" 3) The samba permissions (here domain users) 4) any extra security such as SELinux (or whatever ubuntu uses) I just remembered that we don't use "Domain Users" I recall there might have been a problem with it... not sure. Try putting all your students into one "students" group and using that. edit: and if you are autocreating homedrives they need to have the group that they are being made a member of as their Primary group (old NT style)

Recomend me a new registrar for my .sch.uk domain
CyberNerd replied to Oaktech's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We moved .sch.uk directly from RMPLC to CS New Media Web Hosting - UK Based Web Hosting, Reseller Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers very simple - @CSNM-Carl understands the process inside out If you search the forums there are plenty of people happy with the service CSNewmedia offer. -
Google apps. It's unlimited for Google Docs, has 25GB email, 5GB Google Drive plus another gig for photos.
-
This is cool. Never occured to me. Nothing strikes me as odd. Are you using ACL's for permissions?
-
Thanks for this - we use this site-wide in conjunction with GDocs. The link to release notes only found 3.6.5. 4.0 was here https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.0

We've been using Samba for all of our shares on RedHat Enterprise for the five years without any issues. I've never seen any of the samba processes hang. We've used roaming profiles (hidden inside user shares) and didn't notice any major logon speed issues. The mandatory profiles reside on the DC's on windows - although this will change as soon as RHEL adopts samba.4 SMB2 should easily be able to max out your network and perform to the same speeds that SMB3 does on windows (according to a post I read by a lead developer) so it sounds like it's probably a config issue somewhere. I put this howto up a while back, but it may be out of date now: Samba Homedirectory - Wiki edit: do check the permissions of the profiles - perhaps give them 777 recursively just to test that windows isn't spending time looking for something it cannot access.

From reading the reviews it does sound like a bit of a mashup - battery life too small to be useful as a tablet, yet too unwieldy to be useful as a laptop/desktop. It does seem quite a high price to pay for some legacy apps. I'm sure in a few years time they will get it sorted, but I suspect the competition may have moved on by then!
