Do you run any local filtering? It's the first step towards getting a decent non-LEA provided connection. If you have it in place already just ask them for a non filtered connection and try it out.

I think large tablets could work ok as telephones with a bluetoothed watch as the mic/earpiece.

Check your SLA - we'd get money back for that.

lol. It took me 4 days to upload at home it will take SYNACK all month :-)

We don't pay for EES - All that money goes on broadband and we just buy the 'odd' MSOffice license where its needed.

One with a bluetooth keyboard would be good.

I think serviceable is the problem: You have to set it up, maintain it, you pay for licenses, CALS, you pay for renewals on the hardware. It doesn't come with a document management system (that is extra) it doesn't come with photo management, it doesn't come with user site management and a host of other things. I save my money and time on licneses and hardware and spend it in (redundant) broadband. Its a different approach which works for us.

We've just bought a bunch of 60" touchscreens for about £3k each. It should save a bunch of cash on projector maintenance and replacement over their lifetime Welcome to software lock-in. Promethean are pretty terrible for this. We are trying to wean our staff away from it because of the aforementioned problem, their restrictive licensing for working at home and the fact that their format is useless for VLE's. When looking at a TV/IWB supplier I'd strongly recommend looking at the software licensing and formats in detail to avoid these problems. There is an OpenSource IWB solution, but its a bit French: Open Sankoré | The Free Interactive Whiteboard Software

As Jobs put it:

you can do this with a content filter or by re-routing external mail to a bounce.

It does this. It's been on our Google domain for the last three years. - they moved the functionality from postini into Google apps a year or two back. If you looked before this you would have needed to use postini.

I think your nuts to worry about it. If the US (or any other government) want your data they will get it, whether its hosted on your servers or someone elses. In fact, I'd wager that its probably more secure entrusting it to Google/MS/Amazon and have their security engineers look after it.

That article basically says MS currently have 15% of the global OS market now, but it will rise to 19% by 2017. Not bad for a company that had 95% marketshare 10yrs ago. Windows is becoming a niche market if you look at what students bring into school under BYOD.

They're not that far off Apple sales: Windows sales in 2013 to be topped by Apple device sales | BGR

I don't know where your getting this from, certainly not from the manual.

All our user folders depend on samba, including folder redirection :-)

They did do a massive update and changed all of the graphics to SVG. Perhaps its improved since you last looked.

In what way? Are you comparing samba3 or samba 4?

So what is wrong with Moodle? It has a massive following here (secondary)

Can you get to the wpad.dat file from the browser? is DNS resolving it? The autoconfig should work fine over vlans, does at my place.

Cant Get Moodle to work both internally and externally
CyberNerd replied to geoffd's topic in General Chat
Here's a diagram of what I mean. The DMZ ip's and DNS can be internet and internally accessible - you don't need to worry about problems where the internal address and the external address are different because the firewall will NAT to the same place. -
Cant Get Moodle to work both internally and externally
CyberNerd replied to geoffd's topic in General Chat
Its not terribly good practice having internal resources available from the internet. A better and more simple way is to create a firewalled vlan called a DMZ where both the web and the internal LAN have access over https. This way if the server is compromised, your internal network is still protected by the firewall. -
I actually find it easier to admin - the reason being is that it is far easier to diagnose a problem with/in a discrete network than one where traffic is going through multiple switches. We've got a MERU setup, and wireless clients don't even notice the difference if they go between different AP's
-
I think it's good practice to keep data, that doesn't need to be there, away from the uplinks and the core; even if that comes at a cost of overall switching capacity. The caveat would be if there was a lot of traffic that needs to go between the PC's, which is rarely the case. It does sound like I'm running a much bigger network with over 50 switches and 80 AP's. 4x A5800's on the core. A mix of 4800's and 5500's at the near edge (where I do the majority of OSFP routing) and a mix of 3600SI 5120 SI and (mostly) 4500's at the edge and a sprinkling of 4500G POE's.
