Went to Gait Barrows at Silverdale on Saturday in the hope of seeing the Duke of Burgundy butterfly (quite rare) as they have a small colony there and wasn't dissapointed. A beautiful day and normally you'd only manage to find one, if you were lucky, but Saturday had them all out flying in the sunshine and pairing off. I'll be lucky to see that many ever again I think!

White Lies are also a good group if you like that sound (and I do):

Me too. The Nekkid Watchmaker, as well as a few others are my go to. Another thing I need to do is to buy the more pricier tools. This can add up to a small fortune when it comes to spring winders and various presses etc. but is something I really want to learn as I have more than a few watches as well as a lot of ones in need of a service and some minor repairs I'd picked up from a local auction house for a few quid. Many of these are Swiss but had for about £10 each as most are not working.

I generally get myself out in the countryside, do some hill walking and a lot of nature spotting. Apart from that I'm keen on neolithic history (which ties in nicely with the first two options) and visit many sites each year when I can. I must find an inside activity to do and am keen to start on watch repair and maintenance, but need to free up some space in the house first as I'll need a dedicated desk and places to put tools. I do a bit currently, but really want to learn how to strip them down and repair them properly. It's strange that the smaller the hobby the more space you need!

Moving to the O/S Deployment forum.

Just to add to this. I did an in-place upgrade to Windows 11 the other week and it reserved 8GB of my 16GB RAM for hardware. I've tried everything I can find on the net about this to no joy, but does seem to be a common problem though. Whether it's my hardware (Ryzen 2600, 16GB DDR4 3200, RX580, Gigabyte B450M board), or just Windows being a pain I don't know. I'm going to flatten it and install from scratch tomorrow I think, and there may also be a BIOS roll-back involved too. It's amazing that even now, Windows can create problems. OK, that may have been a little unfair as it may genuinely be hardware related, but Windows 10 was perfectly fine with my setup before.

Having done similar things (including very long stands) whilst I was in the army, it's surprising, as Linda had pointed out, just how organised things are. You are also careful not to drink/eat too much before such events! Often though, you are only doing that kind of thing for an hour or two at a time and spend the time before ensuring that nothing gets fluff/dirt on uniforms or equipment. Its a long day, but with surprisingly little actual activity for the hours involved. Standing still is a lot harder than marching and there are little techniques you can do to keep the circulation going such as raising yourself up on your toes, slightly bending your knees etc. This is often done whilst attention is focused elsewhere though. Oh, and everyone is too busy to think about going to the loo (and you do go before things start). As an after-comment, I've seen guys faint after being on parade for 10 mins. Often this is down to them being dehydrated or overly tired. No late nights the night before!

Went for a walk on Cleveley's beach last week. I'd left my phone in the car, but my girlfriend took this lovely pic of the 'shell' there. It's right next to where they filmed this scene from Andor (the round building is a cafe):

Just had this email though from Adobe and I know some of you out there will find this information useful: Back them up now if you need to!

I always do (ensuring any updates are not going to break it first of course!) and I ordered the Samsung. Even with cloud storage and my Steam folder on a different SSD it's always amazing just how much a drive fills up!

I've just had to order my dad a new laptop (he wanted me to try and speed up his 13 year old dual core Celeron laptop, but it's now beyond hope!) and got him a decent Inspiron from the Dell Outlet . The only downside is that it comes with a 256GB M.2 SSD, so I went off looking for something better and saw that Amazon has these on offer: The 1TB Samsung Evo 970 at £54.99 is an amazing price (the lowest it's ever been). I may just treat myself!

Missing Went to see Missing woth my son late yesterday afternoon and was very pleased with the film. It follows an 18 year old girl trying to find her mother who failed to return from a long weekend trip to Columbia with her new boyfriend. It's all filmed from the screen of whatever device she is using or is seen via at the time (laptops, phones etc.) and is very well done. Watch the trailer belopw to get an idea of the filming style. The entire movie is like this. Highly recommended, and if it's still showing in your area then try and get out to see it.

**BUMP** The survey is still up and running and if you haven't yet filled it out I urge you to do so as this may lead to more funding for IT in schools, but they can't do this unless the DfE get a better idea of the state of IT in your schools, so, if you haven't done so then please fill out this survey as soon as you can.

Today is Linda’s - @elsiegee40 - last day as a moderator on EduGeek as she is retiring to spend time bird watching and caring for wildlife at the Folly Wildlife Rescue centre where she volunteers her time. Linda has been one of our longest serving mods and we shall miss her help, not just on the site, but at BETT and our EDIT confs (yes, we shall be having one later this year) and input greatly. She’ll still be around offering advice, but now she will have lots of time to pursue her interests and take it easy, not that she ever did of course! From all of us here at EduGeek, we wish you a happy and fulfilling retirement Linda

Well, EduGeek is legally able to vote in June, so by the time its 20 I expect it to have left the house, or at least be paying rent!

Nothing like comitting to a corner to find your path contains a manhole cover or pothole part way round! Truly a moment that makes you wince internally!

What RAID settings did you use on your old NAS? I had one fail a bit back and as it was setup as RAID 1, so I could migrate the data off a disk via a USB caddy and some software I got from somewhere (can't remember which it was as it was a bit back). A word of caution though, if it is a different make/model of NAS enclosure then it may well try and reformat the disks to suite, but I would seriously look at getting a back up of the data first before comitting then to a new enclosure. Oh, and make sure you have them labelled as 'disk 1', 'disk 2' etc. so they go in the right way as before! And a final point, make sure that the firmware is at the same level as your previous one!

As others have said, it's about experience, and every motorcycle is different in the way it can corner at varying speeds. Once you get the hang of your bike than it may be worth your looking at techniques such as counter steering (already mentioned by @Andrew_C). Another tip is to go into a corner in a lower gear than you think you need so you generate traction and then allows you to acellerate easily once through. It also helps, again, once you have got a bit more experience, to look at where the road goes around the bend i.e. you are looking well into the corner and you will find your body will steer the bike in the correct path. It's hard to explain, but does work very well when used in conjuction with the other techniques. I miss my bike

Saw the Super Mario Bros Movie on Friday night. I was expecting more humor similar to The Lego Movie but it was fun enough, albeit wrapped up in a 1.5 hour advert! It was fun spotting the easter eggs though.

Finished Picard season 3 and loved it, although my only nit-pick would be...actually I won't do any spoilers yet in case there are still thopse of you who haven't seen it yet. Also completed The Night Agent, which I found pretty good and looking forwards to the next season (it has been confirmed - https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-night-agent-season-2-release-date/). I just hope the lead guy gets to take some acting lessons in the meantime as I found him very wooden.
