Cost of living crisis 2022 - what have you cut back on?
Dos_Box replied to Ditto's topic in General Chat
You really do have my sympathy -
FYI, we have removed a number of posts for unauthorised commercial use of the forums, so please excuse any gaps you might see in the thread

I spent 5 years living a couple of miles away from Stonehenge and it was weird that we never saw anyone visiting the stones for the solstice or even locally by 9am. We have clear skies here tonight and I (almost) always go out and take a pic of the sky at midnight just to show the glow to the north as the suns light is still visible. Last years...

Article: Smoothwall Newcastle Customer Conference - 6th July

They (Smoothwall,) only want us to post this up for them. -
I hope the damage isn't too great and all the wildlife is fine. Must be quite frantic there atm

Now we have rain, my back garden trees are full of aphids! No problem though as they are also full of ladybird pupae. Let battle commence!

Apologies if this has been posted before, but wow - https://www.neowin.net/news/chatgpt-and-google-bard-used-to-generate-working-kind-of-windows-10-and-11-keys/ I do have to ask if your schools allow access to ChatGPT, and if so, have any risk assesments taken place as I can see 'curious' kids having fun trying to circumvent network security to go-a-roaming around afer giving ChatGPT the information it needs to form a solution.

May well be worth picking up some decent old CD players (Hi-Fi sperates) cheap and putting them in the attic, even if it's to flog them off in 20 years time. @localzuk Regarding your post about how fast degredation of CD/RW, it occurs to me I haven't bought any RW discs in 13 years!

And the excessive kerning on 'Carnival' too. Way OTT. -
Strangely, some of my earliest CD purchases in the late 80's still work fine, apart form the ones that have scratches that is. Yeah, we all fell for that one! Some of my mid-90's CD's have degraded though and I do wonder if there was some change in the manufacturing process that brought this on.

WAV? How retro

It's a good point about owning physical media, I have the Monkey Dust S1 DVD and was quite narked about the lack of Seson 2 and 3 released. Perhaps the most clever and dark thing the BBC ever did. With some films now being edited more modern audiences it may will be getting harder to find films in their orginal forms in the future. The despecialized version of Star Wars is a good idea of what can be done, but this took a lot of time and effort. I also wonder if the next generation of consoles will be sans-DVD too and rely on download and subscription servies only.

Was watchign a watch review on YouTube over the weekend (I'm a watch nut) and this GMT was being reviewed. It's a lovely watch, and at a fantastic price, but the designers really need to learn about kerning! Really triggered my OCD that did! -
Just got an email from Google informing me that they are to kill off Album Archive (nope, me neither!) on the 19th July, so if you are useign this then you will need to move whatever is in there out of it.

Perhaps they will have a resurgence in 30 years time with old CD players fertching good money on the used market!

Looks like we have swapped weather then! We are forecast a week of showers and a max on 23. This will be a lot more pleasant than last week. Was at my parents yesterday and they showed me their greenhouse thermometer had recorded a high of over 50 degrees last week, with the door open.

It was from about 3pm onwards here. Some quite heavy downpours, but we've not really had any rain for over three weeks, so this is very welcome. Most localised flooding will be from rain runoff on the hard ground as very dry soil will not absorb water very easily.

I do hope no one saw the contents of ther house floating down the street yesterday, but the storms came as a welcome relief here, with just one downside. I've just got back in from the garden and...

I wonder if they omitted 'From the creators of Game of Thrones...Season 8'!

There is a Chinese TV version on YouTube (I think I linked to it last year), but the production values were quite low, so am very much looking forwards to this. I just hope they don't ruin it!

Moving to the correct forum.

The last Playstation to support CD playback too!

I have a very (at the time) expensive Sony one my brother gave me. It's sat under the TV and I've never plugged it in. Weirdly I've played loads of CD's on my Xbox which sits next to it. Probably because that's plugged in
