  1. We are just renewing our ESS, i am still confused with the Microsoft Office licensing part. I have been told that staff are covered by the agreement to use Office on the Terminal box, but not students, and i need to add student office licences for every student accessing office on it. Is this correct? Sounds like its going to get expensive.
  2. What Server are you doing this on? Sounds like your not running it on a Server running KMS 1.2 , if your doing it in Server 2008 R2 it should just work out the box, if not you will need to download an updated version of the KMS Server to take the Windows 7 keys i believe.
  3. Does anybody use Sharepoint for purchase order approval? I have been looking at Workflows but never actually made one my self. We have an excel spreadsheet we use for Orders, and i would like to create a new order in sharepoint where you attach the spreadsheet, fill in some notes, it then emails whoever the Managers field in the AD User account is set to, and they have to click approve, once approved the bursar gets the email saying a new order is here, and the creator gets an email sayings its been approved. Am i going beyond sharepoint 2010's limits or is this a lot easier to do than it looks?
  4. I noticed on the Mac Websites store, it says "If you are a student, teacher, lecturer, administrator or other staff member in education you qualify for special discounted pricing on Apple computers, software and select third party products" I intend to get a Mac Book Air early July, and selecting i work at a school knocks off £80. Has anybody used that discount in an Apple Store, and if so what proof did they accept that you worked in a School? Would i need a Pay Slip? or Copy of my contract?
  5. You can normally pick up a Samsung Galaxy Y for £50 on pay as you go at Asda on Vodafone, or a Samsung Galaxy Ace which has a bit better screen for under £100.
  6. Lets say the school was called Green Hills, in staffordshire i would have my AD domain as greenhills.staffs.sch.uk and netbios of GREENHILLS
  7. We use our schools FQDN for our AD with split DNS, made things easier for us. For example Outlook Anywhere. That way mail.school.com is the address if you are inside school our outside. If inside our internal DNS servers resolve ito the private IP, if your offsite our external DNS servers resolive it to our public address.
  8. I cannot help think that Microsoft might have missed the boat. My best friend hires computer contractors, and he says tablet deployment in enterprise is through the roof at the moment, and its all iPads, at home it seems to be iPads is king, and i cannot see enterprise saying lets just bin all our iPads now Microsoft have a tablet. Add to the fact Windows 8 may get a tarnished name like Vista from the traditional desktop users who are not happy with the start menu removal to name just one of a few gripes. It could be a about as sucessful and Windows Mobile 7.5.
  9. Sharepoint?
  10. Is that the same interface that's been so far a complete flop for Nokia? I read that last quarter they made more money from royalties with technology Apple pay them than from the sales of there own phones running WP7. Its this same tiles interface as to why i do not a WP7. Disbite being a hardcore Nokia fan, the tiles are just not for me.
  11. I think it will get much worse for MS, playing with Windows 8 has made me decide i am getting an Apple Mac Air in July. I do not like the direction they are going with Windows and i have been a long term Windows fan. Install Parallels with Windows 7 on the Air for any legacy PC stuff and its Mac for me.
  12. I get almost a day out of my Samsung Galaxy SII, and i have always charged my phone every night since my first Smart Phone the Nokia 7650 back in 2003. I did earlier in the week buy the larger capacity battery for my phone, because if something cropped up after work, by 7-8PM my phone would be dead without a charge. If i go on a day trip it will last all day so long as i do nothing but make calls or texts, if i start to regularly use apps or the net bye bye battery. So i am hoping the jump from a 1300mAh battery to 2000mAh battery will help a lot. Nokia had the right idea with there Coca Cola powered phone Nokia Concept Phone Runs on Coke | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building in all seriousness i think the 1 spec smart phone makers should be jumping on is battery life. I do not mind the phones being a little heavier or bigger than they are now if i could get 2 days usage out if a smartphone with reasonable usage or 1 full day extreme usage.
  13. Our filtering gives us over 100 categorys, so we can fine tune needs quite well. On the teacher stations where a projector is connected we have the same rules as students with the exception of youtube for the teachers own protection from displaying something risky on a screen. On a teachers laptop we only have Porn, abuse & Malicious websites turned on, so they have a lot more lax filtering so they use them for facebook.
  14. Create a folder on each PC called C:\Photoshop, then use as a batch file logon script for that course generic username SUBST X: C:\Photoshop, then they will have a drive X:\ in my computer that mounts at C:\Photoshop.
  15. Thought its time i got my head round Linux, as only Linux box we have on our network is our Elastix server, and most i can do on that is use the ifconfig to set the IP of the server, and use vi to edit basic config. So installed Suse 12 on my laptop today, and it has not installed any Wireless drivers, its an Acer Aspire 5750, not sure if its got the Atheros or Broadcom wireless, as usual with acer they think its funny to list 1 model with 3 different wireless adaptors. i downloaded some broadcom drivers with Linux extracted the files into my /home/username/documents now have no idea what i do... it has some Makefile thing and then 2 folders lib and src.
  16. Have a play with Elastix, its what we have used here since 2009, we love it. Its a free PBX system. We have 8 ISDN Channels, and 50 Extentions. Rarely have more than 6 simultanious outbound/inbound calls.
  17. Not a group policy as such, but i launch it as a logon script from their. In Windows 7 when you redirect the user folders you end up with duplicates when you click the users name on the start menu, so 2 desktop folders, 2 downloads folder etc, one to the local profile and 1 to the redirected path. So i run the following so it only shows the redirected one so the end user does not get confused. Since you have not done the folder redirect part yet it might come in handy for you. cd %userprofile% rmdir Favorites /s /q rmdir Desktop /s /q rmdir Contacts /s /q rmdir Downloads /s /q rmdir Links /s /q rmdir "My Documents" /s /q rmdir "My Music" /s /q rmdir "My Videos" /s /q rmdir "My Pictures" /s /q rmdir "Saved Games" /s /q rmdir "Searches" /s /q rmdir Documents /s /q rmdir Music /s /q rmdir Videos /s /q rmdir Pictures /s /q
  18. It is the wireless card i have bridged it to. Will try the hard wire one....
  19. Trying to run Windows 7 on Virtual Box and it runs great apart from network performance seems to be poor. Anybody else had this issue? Its in bridged mode. Windows 7 is also the Host OS.
  20. no, sounds like you have your BITS set to like 20kbps, which means things will take a long time.... Go to "Computer Client Agent", under Client Agents, under Site Settings, click the BITS tab and see if throttle is ticked at the bottom and if it is increase the transfer speed or tell it not to throttle
  21. Anybody know how to specify when installing the MSI the IP of the Securus box?
  22. Is it clever enough now to know when the workstation has had its OS re-installed and re apply all allocated applications that have been pushed out using BITS? Thats my only annoyance with SCCM2007, if its not in the task sequence it does not get installed.
  23. Is it possable on Windows 7 to just grab the required DLL's for AD Users and Computers that are installed with RSAT and repackage them up? We use to use a custom Microsoft Managment Console for Password Reset control for teachers when we were XP/2003 Server, was easy just push out the MSI for the Remote Admin Tools and the custom MMC would work. Windows 7 it just all got messy, even if i deploy the RSAT tools, i then have to enable them through Programs and Features then turn the feature on. Anybody know what dll's need to be registered for AD Users/Computers MMC to run? or is that just not going to work?
  24. Your theory is flawed as 2000 onwards are NT based and come from the NT4 Famley, and you have included 9x code which was killed off with XP, when NT met the home user......
  25. Did you use sccm 2007 before?, if so how does package deployment compare?
