Vanilla Network - Primary School
Quackers replied to MartinHamilton's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I support 2 Primary Schools in Staffordshire that we have removed CC4 from and gone Vanilla, now things are quick -
I would stick with 7. Windows 8 will more than likely drive people up the wall on a laptop/pc.

Does anybody run this on their Windows installs? Never heard of it before today and trying trying to fully understand what it actually does. My biggest question is would it help stop malware getting on staff laptops at home?

IPv4 addresses running out
Quackers replied to speckytecky's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I understood it that class D and E ranges were never spec'd to be used on the normal internet, reserved for pumping out multicast, and as such not all networking kit can handle that. -
I could be wrong but i think batch files do not like to copy from UNC paths, when i used them in the XP days i mapped a network drive to the share first then did a net use * /delete at the end to disconnect the network drive.

Had the head dump her parents laptop on my desk saying the internets not working but they can send/receive email. So i have a quick look and internet works fine in safe mode with IE, boot into normal mode and i get the Page cannot be displayed, if i open up a command prompt and type ping http://www.yahoo.com it can resolve http://www.yahoo.com to the correct IP. I have tried sfc /scannow , a System restore from a few weeks ago, removing all the things set to run at startup in msconfig and still no luck. Any suggestions before i re-install? It does have firefox but that will not load, does have norton 360 but does not seem to load and clicking uninstall from programs and features does nothing. I did want to try telnet Yahoo! Deutschland 80 to make sure norton was not somehow blocking traffic on port 80, but Microsoft removed it as default in the wonderful wisdom and turn windows features on and off does not seem to work either , grrrr. Only got my Mac to hand at the moment so cannot really copy telnet off there, and i have no pen drives handy at the moment anyway.

2003 Server which is our SIMS Server, rest are 2008 R2. Might seem weird but i kind of wish i did have an old NT 4 box still in use for some odd/obscure service as i miss it, i liked NT4. Plus i am very nostalgic.

Delprof package for CC4 possible
Quackers replied to andyturpie's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Delprof only supported Windows XP (Maybe 2000 as well), came with the Server 2003 Resource Kit, Microsoft changed things so that in Windows 7 you use the follow Group Policy Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->User Profiles->Delete User Profiles older than a specified number of days Guessing CC4 still allows you do Standard Windows group polices? or maybe RM already control this setting from an option in the RM Management Console somewhere? -
Every student in Year 9, 10 and 11 has a netbook at our school. They are stored in my office and charged every night, and collected in the morning. We have been doing this since 2009 and it works well. Takes 20 minutes to place all 300 on charge at the end of the day, and students collect them in a morning in a 30 minute window or break/lunch.

Science Tech found this on the shelf. It says 'Postbox' on it, has Patent No 642049, made by W & J George & Becker Ltd, seems to have like Marconi type things at the bottom. But we want to know what its for.........
-
Well after leaving it with 10 silcon gel sachet's donated by the Science department, in a sealed bag, it now boots at normal speed, and the fans do not come on anymore and all is normal apart from the trackpad its just not responding to my finger and its jumping stuff all over the screen by its self. So just put it back in and hope its more moisture to be sucked out, but worst case i am guessing its no longer a case of needed a new logic board.

Anybody here use Geovisions newer IP based CCTV system? We have had the traditional Geovision stuff for the last decade, and we want some new cameras so thinking of moving to the IP stuff instead. While the product info looks great, was woundering if anybody has any real life experience of it with any comments about it?

I do not have an airing cupboard, so where is the next best place? Over on Gas Mark 3 ?
-
Normally, or within a few days.

Windows 8 can do exactly what Windows Vista did in this school. Be non existent, it can burn in hell.

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy -> Use Group Policy Loopback Mode
-
It does, we use loopback in 2008 R2 Server for some things.

I spilt a pint glass that had about an inch of water left in the bottom on my mac book air. It mainly went at the top area above the keys. I instantly grabbed a cloth and got up the small amount that was actually on the Air and it worked fine for 3 hours after. When i took it out of its carry case later that day it boots, but the fans are on max, and its like the processor is in some limp mode , as its just extreamly slow to do anything, and the mouse pad does not really work. Its only 2 weeks old too normally would not be too annoyed but since it cost £1000 i am a bit peed with my self. Never ever spilt anything on a computer before in my life, so it would have to be on this! Should i take it to the Apple store or should i undo the screws my self and see if it has any damp patches?

Thats what Paul McKennas i can make you thin system works like. I used it and dropped from 18 stone down to 13 stone 2lbs eating all the things the diet industry have conditioned us to believe you cannot eat if you want to lose weight. I would have normal coke, not nasty diet, normal products, not low fat tasting crap, and takeaways, and i would also eat veg and other stuff when i felt i wanted it. Once you get your head to think the same as a thin persons, the weight just starts to fall off, weight gain/loss is all in the head. What you eat effects your health, how much you eat and why you are eating effects your weight loss or gain, people forget healthy eating does not create weight loss. Also look on supersize vs super skinny, if chocolate etc really made you over weight, why is it always the skinny ones that live off what we call junk food but are stick thin????

Good thing with Tasc Software is they will try and add a new feature or tweak for you if you need it, they seem to go out of their way more than any company to make sure the product does what you want it to. Its hard to fault them, infact i cannot, they price the products fairly, and give support like no others.
