Hey guys, This is the how-to guide I put together for another school regarding changing a user's username/last name and sync'ing those changes across to Google Apps. Changing Username / Last Name of Newly Married Users

We have a Google Spreadsheet with different sheets for each date (labelled 18/7, 19/7 etc...) And then I wrote a Google Apps Script that automatically runs at 9am everyday, finds a sheet that matches the date, copies each non-empty row out and emails them to the students and staff. All our students have smartphones/iPads with them so they all receive the email within a few minutes.

The barcode font is called "Free 3 of 9" I think, and it's recommended you put a * before and after the number. For example: *1234* The *'s act as read start and stops for the barcode readers.

We use Zendesk and I've got it setup to work via email. Staff email to a specific address which logs the ticket for them. I get an email with all the details and I can reply to the email which updates the ticket and notifies the user. I can also change the ticket's status (Pending, Open, Solved) by including keywords in the reply emails.

Am I correct in assuming that STP = Loop Detection? If so, Loop Detection is disabled on the switch so it can't be that causing it?

@cpjitservices Loop detection is disabled so it's not that And the ports are not switch to switch links - just a random one or two of the normal 48 ports that connect to PCs. @chazzy2501 I don't think it's possible to enable them as edge ports? @Michael - There were all factory reset before I installed them, it was only after they started giving problems that I logged into them and updated the firmware. @SYNACK - I'll have a look and see what logging options it has Thanks everyone for your input so far!

Not enabled I've found one thread on an HP forum where 2 or 3 people have had the same problem but they are also still looking for a solution.

Hi all, I'm having a very odd problem with 3x HP V1810-48G Switches. Everything is working perfectly and then overnight a few of the ports will stop working. The computer/laptop still picks up that it is connected & the switch still picks up the link as active but no traffic goes through. The computer/laptop won't be able to get an IP and even if I manually assign one, it still cannot ping or connect to anything. If I plug the computer into a different port then it all works, alternately, if I reboot the switch, it all starts working again (but obviously it disconnects the other 47 ports while the reboot occurs). I have updated the switches firmware to the latest in the hopes that maybe it was a software fault but it is still occurring. If it was one switch I would assume it to be a faulty switch but the fact that it is happening on 3 switches means there is some sort of configuration fault somewhere. I thought maybe it was loop protection but that isn't enabled. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If I installed 3.1.1 will it automatically update itself to the latest/stable version when it is released?

We have been using them for over a year now, a mix of pro and non-pro units. We have over 30 of these across our whole campus with more being added to cover the odd dark corner. We have a problem as a lot of our buildings are concrete/brick and the signal doesn't seem to permeate through all that well. I have seen one pro unit with over 100 simultaneous connections and it continued to work perfectly. We have also installed a few of the 8-port tough switches and I have found them to be brilliant and minimize the amount of cabling and plugs required in each cabinet. I am very tempted to try out the 3.1.1 beta software but I'm not sure how easy it would be to rollback if there was an issue and surely they're about to release the final/stable one soon?

Hey guys, I'm busy setting up an Asterisk server and I've hit a slight hitch. The setup requires that I have 2 network cards in the machine, one for the internal network and one for the SIP account. Eth0: IP Address: 192.168.3.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.224.0 Gateway IP: 192.168.0.25 <- Internet Access Eth1: IP Address: 10.12.4.108 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.248 Gateway IP: 10.12.4.105 And then under the SIP Peer details I set: host=10.8.0.5 Now I have to set the Gateway on Eth1 to 10.12.4.105 so that the SIP account can talk to 10.8.0.5 but then I do not have internet access on the Asterisk server because I have to clear the Gateway on Eth0. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi guys I have 3 old HP T5545 Thin Clients which we no longer have any use for, can you think of any uses for them? The only thing I've come up with so far is connecting them to the network & a screen and having them display a PHP page of the daily notices which refreshes every few minutes. Can anybody else come up with some clever alternate uses?

Hi all, I have a bit of a weird setup and I was wondering if you guys could help me out or make a suggestion as to the best way to solve it. We have 60 phones throughout our campus, 50 are in offices (secure'ish) and 10 are in public areas (Staffrooms & boardrooms). We've had some problems recently with staff using some of the phones in the public areas to make a lot of personal calls and we have decided to implement Pin Sets which allows us to better track who's actually making the calls. At the time, we also want to restrict who can make international calls. I've created 2 pin sets: "Local" and "International" and I've also created 2 outbound routes which uses dial patters to determine if the call is an international call (the it requires the "International" pin set, and if it's local, then it requires the "Local" pin set). Seems simple enough, however, all of those with phones in their offices are now required to enter a pin whenever they want to phone. So I have allowed pinless dialing on their extensions but now the "International" pin sets are ignored. Obviously we are able to see if one of these extensions has dialed an international number, but only after is has happened. Can anybody suggest a better way of setting this up? Thanks!

Thanks very much, I had a read through your solution except mine seems to be the opposite. I can talk to it via DNS name and not via IP address. I will still do some tests and see if maybe it is linked to the same sort of authentication problem.

Thanks for your suggestions @Steve21, 1) I have checked the networking settings and they all appear to be correct. The time on both the TeraStation & DC are sync'd to the same time server and are both accurate. 2) This seems like a huge amount of effort given that I'd have to create groups specific to each folder. In Windows I would say "Authenticated Users" have access and "Domain Admins" have write and that works perfectly for me everywhere else? 3) Again, doesn't seem like the most efficient way to do things. For example, we have a folder full of photos which we want all staff and students to be able to access, but not guests. On a Windows Server I would give "Authenticated Users" read access and deny to "Guests".

We bought an 8TB Buffalo TeraStation TS-RXL a few months back for use as backup/general storage etc... Over the past few months I have battled with silly little things and I thought I would post them on here to see if any of you have experienced the same issues and if you overcame them, and to warn other potential buyers. Firstly, I had linked the TeraStation to our Active Directory, however: The TeraStation will not allow you to log onto it using any AD credentials if you try and access it using its IP address. You are only able to log onto it if you are using it's DNS name ("TeraStation-01" in this case). Secondly, I setup a folder called "Software_Images" which I use to store ISOs etc... I want anybody in the "Domain Admins" group to be able to write to this folder (to delete old ISOs and add new ones) and I want anybody in the "Domain Users" group (i.e. Any AD authenticated user) to be able to read from the folder but not make changes. Simple? Wrong. These are the permissions I set: And this is the result when I try and copy and ISO into the folder while logged on as the Domain Administrator (a member of the "Domain Admins" group): It seems to be ignoring the fact that I am in the "Domain Admins" group (which would give me write access) and instead sees that I am part of the "Domain Users" group and denying me write access. Thirdly, there is no "Deny" access restriction. For example, I would want to add "Domain Users" as a read only group (which would allow all Authenticated users) but deny a small group. No such feature. Another issue I had involved auto-updating, I would tell it to update and I would receive a message that says "Updating, do not close this window" - which would sit like that for 2 days. In the end I had to power off the TeraStation from the front panel, tried again and the same thing happened. In the end I had to manually download the Update & Updater from Buffalo's site. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get around these faults?

Hi all, We have a very outdated box here running Linux with Mailscanner/Mailwatch which we use as an SMTP server to relay mail from our admin system/printers. The box is on its last legs and I would like to replace it with something virtualized. Are there any Windows options that would give us the ability to check the message queues and, more importantly, a searchable history of emails that were sent through the system? Thanks! Nick

Hi guys, I have a question regarding changing subnets in DHCP. I know I will need to delete the current scope and add a new one with the new subnet. However, do I need to make any changes to the DNS server? I'm using Server 2008 R2 btw
