How many schools will still be running XP after April 8th. We only have a few xp clients left so we will be done before the cut off, interested to see how many will not be.

We had one of ours repaired there as well, £185 + vat. Good service.

I have one student who suffers with exceptionally long log in times ranging from 20 -45 mins. When I get him to log on to my test machine he logs on within 90 secs, anywhere else and it's crazy long log in times. I have even tried a laptop and after 15 mins it's still stuck on welcome. All his account settings are exactly the same as all other users, we use mandatory profiles so same profile as everyone else. I created a new account for him and copied his user area to his new folder, still the same problem. Crazy and I am stumped. Any ideas?

We are just coming to the end of this course as well, question about the exam, does the accounts the students use need to be restricted or can they just use their own normal accounts as is. No one here seems to know.

@Galway You are missing the point mate, Facebook provide their service to 13 year olds, it's in the T&C's, therefore because they are offering that service to minors THEY should ensure from a start point that that service contains age appropriate material, in the same way it is illegal to see 18 certificate films to someone under the age of 18. It's not the parents responsibility to ensure their children do not buy the films behind their back (although That's another issue) it's the shops responsibility to ensure they do not sell the films fags booze to people under age. So Facebook need to ensure that none of this content is available to children or make FB 18's only, which they won't do as their subscription base would go down dramatically. While we are on the subject, having seen people killed for real whilst in the Army, why on earth would anyone think looking or want to look at another human being having their head cut off as acceptable in any medium, really sort it out it's real person for christ's sake.

This is not a great argument to be honest, yes children sign up to adult sites, yes that is down to parents knowing what their kids are doing. Facebook is NOT an adult only site, it's T&C's allow children (yes 13 year old's are still children) to create accounts and therefore FB DO have a duty of care to protect children from this content. That is before you go down the road that what FaceBook are hosting are essentially snuff video's, which is illegal in the UK.

My post is not to say that all teachers are like that, there are a lot of hardworking good teacher, but conversely there are also a lot who are not, anything the Government can do to get rid of the latter is great IMHO.

You have not seen the IT teachers in our school then. They are awful, the Head of Department came to ask me how thy find a user manual online for Scratch, really, if you can not work that out for yourself you should not be teaching IT let alone heading a department.

I actually like Gove, especially his views on IT in schools and the curriculum, not all schools are lucky enough to have progressive teachers teaching IT. A lot of schools still have teachers teaching IT who would not know what an SSD was if you mailed the description to them in a Union letter, and have no interest in learning to teach anything other than word and excel.

Had the same problem occur today on 1 machine out of 4 identical all with the Windows HD Audio Driver, updated driver and it still didn't work, plugged in a pair of headphones and it worked, how daft is that.

I had the same error crop up today on one of my machines and reset repository worked.

I am currently using Backup exec which has been great for what we back up. I normally run a full backup to disk and tape on Saturday and Sunday with incremental to both during the week. I am using a HP X1600 with 12 x 1 TB drives for the backup storage as well as other things like pupil Areas and shared resource area, most of the space has been set in 6 1 TB RAID 1 arrays, the trouble is my backups have grown to exceed 1TB and so the b2d folders run out of space while backing up. Is there a way to take space on the less used 1TB arrays and add additional b2d folders to the full backup job so that it automatically switches to these overflow areas while backing up or do I have to look at other solutions? RESOLVED!!! YAY \o/ TMG Client was the culprit, found through installing clean copy of Win7 and internet was working, stopped as soon as I put on TMG Client. I had set auto discovery of TMG server in settings but not set up AD DS for auto discovey. If the TMG client does not find a serve it sets the browser config to windows default over writing the GPO settings and no tick in the box. Still sorted now Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Yes Witch even using the above registry tweek gives me no joy, it just won't tick the damn box. I created a brand new clean profile, logged in as a user and it worked fine, logged out restarted, logged back in as the same user and the use proxy box was not ticked, it's as if it screws the profile over once someone has logged in. The profile has only read and execute perms for the everyone group, FC for system and Administrators.

Already done that same result, blocked all policies bar the proxy one. The only thing I have not done is create a fresh mandatory profile, (naughty me I left it as the old XP one) and I am not redirecting app data.

So.... I have been having problems with apply my proxy settings in Windows 7 where I can inject the proxy but I.E/Windows 7 does not for love nor money want to tick the the box "Use a Proxy for your LAN". I have tried: Using GPP to add proxy Inject registry settings using GPP and batch file Use IEM before upgrading to I.E 10 removed this opton Powershell etc, etc, etc, etc. None of the options I tried would tick the damn box. Now when playing around with PowersShell I decided to try and input a different proxy address from the one the LEA supplied us so I just put the proxy as a random IP address, and guess what it put it in and ticked the box, WTF! When I change the PS script back to the LEA proxy, no tick in the box. I have removed all group policy from applying to the test machine so it's only the proxy GPO applied and I get the same result. Crazy, can anyone shed any light on how or why this may happen? (All machines and servers are updated)
