How does everyone handle this? By default, we do not allow staff members access to the C Drive on the laptops which they take offsite. As an example, we did have a staffmember (female), who had access to the C drive, and when the laptop was brought in with a problem it was discovered that the laptop had over 350 porn images on it (mostly of male genitalia) However, a couple of staffmembers have had access to the C drive on their current laptops as the result of an oversight. Now there are new laptops being issued, and some teachers are complaining extremely vocally about having their C drive access rights removed. Generally what they are supposed to do is work on the laptops and save their work to a usb stick if needed, then they can drop that work into their user areas on the network. The brunt of the issue is that they are saying their usb sticks are breaking and they are losing alot of hours of work. The problem that we get (admittedly not from all staffmembers, some actually do use their laptops for work), is that many times when a laptop comes in for a virus update or a problem, we discover that there is a multitude of games installed on the laptop, where they have been using the laptop for young relatives to play games on. (or worse in the case of the aforementioned staffmember). Needless to say that the teachers in question are now on the warpath heading to see the head about the whole "stupid" restriction issue.

I'm a bit cold hearted when it comes to reparations. Particularly reparations in regards to war. See, in essence..I dont really stand by the geneva convention and such things. To me, anything goes in war, the enemy is the enemy, uniformed or not as far as I am concerned

Hehe not currently

Portsmouth unfortunately
-
Nope, havent been given any grade letters or anything, all we have so far is a job role sheet, consisting of the roles. Interestingly, we dont have Technician on our list. Shows, IT Assistant, IT Technician, Assistant Network Manager and Network Manager on ours.
-
Here in Portsmouth, I have been labelled as ICT Technician, Disease on these forums has been labelled as Network Manager. Both are pretty much what we are actually doing. Though Disease is trying to get them to label me as Assistant Network Manager as he thinks it more accurately reflects what I do on a day to day basis. As for salaries, we havent been informed what they are in relation to these titles. We have been told by our line manager that they havent released the salary scales yet ?

I worked in education, then after 4 years left and worked in industry. It simply wasnt for me, the wages were better, but the hours were longer, with less time off. There was little to no social interaction, and very little laughter and fun at the workplace...it was alot like being in that film Brazil. I missed the days of the more relaxed environment of a school, having a laugh with workmates, drinks after work, decent socialisation, and yes..even having a laugh about games or football with some of the kids. End result was that I returned to education. I am not an ambitious person, I have financial security so I dont seek more money, I have no interest at all in being promoted to network manager and am perfectly happy to remain just an IT technician and not have to deal with the political hassles and extra responsibility that Disease (on these forums) has to deal with. As such I have no intent of ever chasing his position. The only thing I ask for in a job is to have fun, and in education I get that fun, whether its from joking around with colleagues or kids.

I dont *do* sport anymore, though I was an accomplished squash player in my younger days. These days though I dont participate, watch alot of it though, everything from figure skating (which, oddly for a guy, I think is great) to american football

I guess it must break up the monotony for them , its a pity they cant give extra marks for originality The best thing is that some of the answers actually are not wrong, technically some of them have given a correct answer !

Dont know if you have seen these, but some damn funny stuff

Saw that before somewhere, but at the end instead of not sleeping with her , it ended with "given that I slept with her last night" blah blah

OWA looking like the route then, though we wont be letting them access it from out of school yet, its just for an internal usage of outlook so that the head of ict can teach a few lessons on outlook Maybe sometime down the line SMT will authorise more use of it though
-
No the kids dont have any email setup, SMT choose a while ago to not allow students external email. Even this solution will be purely for internal, only staff have external mail. Yeah we have office 2003 so no probs there, was really just their ability to fiddle with their outlook settings that I was concerned with
-
Yeah , we have an exchange server and OWA running on our admin network at the moment, just nothing for curriculum.
-
From somewhere out of left field the new head of ICT brought up a desire to educate the students on outlook emails and all that jazz. Up to this stage none of our students have emails. So the thought occured to me, if they are using outlook , will they be able to fart arse around with their outlook settings? If so, is there anyway to restrict what options in outlook are available to them?
