  1. PLASC Day - At least it is only three times a year.
  2. When I converted our Admin network from Netware to Windows I found it a lot easier to create a new domain from scratch, copy all the users work over from the old server to the new one and then concentrate on network and software management. One thing that I did find that takes a bit of getting use to is the different types of permissions in Windows, oh and also download and install ABE ( Access Based Enumeration - From Microsoft ), which hides folders that users do not have permissions to.

  18. Hi all I have a slight problem that I hope you can help me with. I have 140 users logging into a single Windows 2003 Active Directory Server. I have desktop folder redirection set to a share and a number of sub folders and this is applied through GPO and I control the display of the icons by using ABE and file permissions on the icons and has been running great for the last 10 Months. We have a number of PCs that are connected to Interactive Whiteboards and I would like to add a group of PCs to the shortcut ACL so that when any user logs in on a Whiteboard PC the application shortcut will be added. When I give the user rights to the shortcut, the icon appears on the users desktop, but when I give the computer object rights, and go to the client machine, it does not seem to have rights to the file. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Thanks for the replies We have been advised by our LEA that it would be best if we provide our own SSL VPN access and bypass theirs, so that we would have more control over it and that it would also integrate with our admin network and Active Directory. This would then allow members of staff to connect to the VPN appliance, their home PC would then be checked for a presence of an up to date anti virus and anti spyware solution before that person is allowed to login. That member of staff would then have access to Serco's ePortal and also access to other in house applications that we run and their user area. The SSL VPN solution that we have been looking at provides the end user with a browser based windows orientated front end complete with mapped drives. We have not yet decided to use certificates or not, but if we do we have been advised by our LEA to use purchased one. Thanks
  20. Hi all We are looking into using a Cisco SSL VPN appliance to allow our staff to access Serco’s ePortal to complete their end of year reports at home. Does anybody have any experience in doing this with either Cisco or any other SSL VPN solution. Thanks
