We have Microsoft Movie Maker, Adobe Master Suite CS4 (in all out computer suites (including the media room)) and the Serif Suite in 3 computer suites (oddly enough not in the media room). We cant afford to buy/subscribe to Adobe and although you can still buy licenses from Serif for their software, it's a few years old now and not ever going to be updated as they too have gone to a subscription model so I'm interested to see what other schools use for teaching media - so, what software do you have to install for your Media departments student computers?

You'd best speak to @TwistedHelixis and ask about the time-sharing he's doing with the SSD...

Definately not fair - I'm going to take my VeryPC sun hat, VeryPC Polo Shirt, VeryPC Mug, Very PC Lanyard and all my other VeryPC goodies and sulk in the corner... I'm sure I've got a VeryPC Memory Stick too somewhere - ooh and I can use the Free VeryPC Mousemats I've got as a seat to sit on if I pile them all up!...

So, just to clarify not only was the 'draw' held earlier than published/advertised meaning anyone that entered within the legally advertised time but after the draw had taken place had zero chance of winning despite meeting all the requirements of the competition but it was won by a 'random' winner who had won before - sounds like you should change your name from @VeryPC to Very Fishy...

Correct, you/we dont use MDT at all, you/we must use SCCM. SCCM itself uses MDT and WSUS etc. but you mustnt touch either of them and just let SCCM do its stuff else you might prevent SCCM from working if you make any changes to MDT etc.

*Another Update* The errors seem to be getting worse now!

I'm a little confused as to why you would install it in the first place if you then disable it or are you wanting to restrict it to just some users?

Three of the people listed as being involved are also involved with an existing supplier. They currently share the same business address as the same existing supplier that has a franchise option...

Installed this the other day. We use the Education version (not Enterprise) and it's available to us. You have to install it as a Feature so if you dont want it on your new software builds then dont install it.

*UPDATE* Just got this error when connecting remotely using the DPM Admin Console on my PC (rather than on the server directly):

What Operating System are you using as it's a known issue with Server 2012 R2 for example?

DPM keeps crashing - or does it? It only seems to happen when the DPM Admin Console is open. Is DPM crashing so MMC crashes as it can no longer access the DPM service - or is MMC (or the Admin Console running in MMC) causing DPM to crash? When it crashes any running jobs stop so have to be restarted.

Since upgrading from DPM 2016 to DPM 2019 we are no longer able to schedule a report such as the Tape Library report so we have to run them manually. We had to upgrade SQL from SQL 2012 to SQL 2016 before we upgraded to DPM 2019 as SQL 2012 is not compatible with it and it may be in this area that the problem lie! Here's the error message we get when trying to schedule a report: If you click the hyperlink for error 3001 it takes you to this: If you click on the hyperlink in the above message it then takes you to this: To upgrade SQL from 2012 to 2016 you have to uninstall and re-install DPM so the above 'fix' to uninstall and reinstall has technically already been done. When I replicate our DPM install from scratch on a test server the same thing happens and the reporting doesnt work so I have clearly missed something somewhere so need some help to point me in the right direction!

It's cheap on the Schools Microsoft licencing which is why we use it and have done for many years now. When it works it's great, when it doesnt it can be a PITA. We've recently upgraded to DPM 2019 and now can only access the console on the server itself as when you install the remote admin console on another PC it says that our DPM server doesnt have DPM on it which it clearly does as it's backing up loads of servers! Also since the upgrade the report scheduling wont configure so we will now have to run the reports manually whereas previously we go the Tape Management report sent weekly. It's saved our bacon a couple of times when we've had to restore servers (both bare metal recovery on a physical server and on a VM) - we perform regular test restores anyway just to prove to ourselves it's working!

Is this a good sign: I've never seen a big red cross like that on DPM before!!

Well, my boss has just announced that he has finished upgrading our Home Folders file server from 2008R2 Server 2019 (via 2016) so now I've got no choice but to get DPM upgraded to 2019 so this will be fun!

See the news on the USA who are currently blocking Huawei products. Google are only giving them 3 more months of updates (or so I hear) and even the likes of Lenovo are getting ready for whatever the USA may do next. If the same ends up going for their servers you may not get any future updates on them from a USA based product like Windows.

Use them all the time. Simple, quick and free. Excellent service, excellent on the phone, email, website and in person! I dont know about the cages but the large bins they provide have the facility to add a padlock to it (which we've done) so you dont get people putting cardboard and other rubbish in them. When they come to collect it we simply transfer the padlock across to the new bin - we also have ours chained up to the wall so it can't go walkies either!
