My last two desktops have come from PCspecialist - you can even send them your own case to build your PC in if you dont like any of theirs! Easy to change specs on the fly to ensure it fits your budget.

From my perspective, it's simple and quick to both see how much annual leave I have or book time off. HR seem to love it.

It means Microsoft wont license a copy of Windows with such a system. If they install Windows on a new Gen8 CPU based system it will be piracy.

We use SamPeople.co.uk no idea on the back end of things but for me as a user it's striaght forward to book annual leave, digitally sign that policies/documents and check out job description etc.

We dont GAG pool either (but I think we're going that way so we can get some big Estate projects off the ground at our smaller Academies) and I think what we basically do is take the cost of running the central services team (from IT to Finance) and then divide it up proportionally between the Academies. When we need an apprentice adding to the team, this obvisouly increased the cost so our FD and CEO spoke to all the Heads about the plan as the amount of money we would take from them in the new financial year would be increased. We're in the process of onboarding another Academy that has sought to join our MAT so unless the central team needs to expand to take on this extra Academy then the cost split between all the Academies would actually go down slightly.

Is there a command I can run during an SCCM task sequence to initiate RUM on the machine to update it when we've imaged a PC?

For a printer I'd say HP, for a MFD I'd say Ricoh.

Just be careful with using an SSD with Windows XP as (as far as I can remember) it doesn't support TRIM so you may get issues with the SSD over time so make sure you have regular backups if the SSD is going to be used to save things on so you dont lose anything in the future.

Our staff email addresses and display names are in a different format to each other, our students have a 2 digit intake year as the first part of their email address (i.e. 17SmithA@) so impossible to mix up a staff member and a student, no way to stop them emailing the wrong teacher or wrong parents though!

LOL - nothing surprises me with AUSST any more! Way back in 2012 people were saying it was crazy that there is no autoupdate of the update server and an Adobe employee responded saying they'd look in to adding it at some point and it's now 2025 and still not implemented!! You'd think with all the bandwidth it would save them they'd spend a bit more time making this work a lot better.

Never got around to setting RUM to run as a scheduled task so our Technician has been manually running the auto update each half-term break on all the computers in the computers, up until now that is!!... PANDA360 Adapative Defence (or whatever it is now) that protects our endpoints from malware and ransomware etc. also does our Patch Management so we remain cyber-secure is now able to schedule in the running of RUM on the machines so as long as we have the .overides file in place (we push that out via a script in SCCM) then it updates Adobe CC from our AUSST RUM server! Only query I have now is how to automate the updating of the server! I'm assuming I can run the incremental update command can cleanup command via a scheduled task??

As YouTube is a Google company could it be looking at the cookies in the web browser? If so, has the Teacher been using their School computer for personal use and tried looking at online dating sites or simply logged in to one? We had a Teacher once who kept on getting pregnancy test adverts in everything and asked us to investigate and it was because she had searched for them in Google!

Is this brightness issue you are all talking about due to the technology (i.e. are lamp projectors simply brighter) or is it that the way the brightness (lumens) is being reported between the two different technologies is not being measured/calculated in the same way? Or is it like speaker manufacturers saying 100W (PMPO) instead of 70W (RMS)?

For us, having a seperate monitor (that we mount on to the VeryPC Flex case with the optional monitor mounting kit) saves us money each time we refresh the computers as we just by a the computer and not a screen/monitor each time.

Both pre-sales and after-sales service has always been excellent for us. Not had many warranty issues (or issues outside the warranty to be honest) just the odd SSD going faulty and they just send us a replacement so we can fit it ASAP when it arrives so we can get the PC back up and running in sooner rather than later. I think we did have a problem with some USB ports on a batch of computers we got from them that we only realised when we were installing them and they sent an engineer out to work with us the very next day to solve the problem and they did, so like I say they have provided us with excellent service at all times.

We've had spreadsheets of row after row after row of Vimeo URLs to whitelist, just a case of copying and pasting them etc. a pain but we just get on with it else the systems they've paid for wont work. What will happen when they release new videos on some of the systems is anyones guess!

No and Yes for us. Vimeo itself it blocked but individual videos are unblocked.

What I would do is leave it on, on any Servers you have but turn if off on your clients.

Artemis is malware that specifically attacks through a web browser. Why do you think it's a false positive? Its located in the temp folder which is a working area that Edge would use when downloading web pages you are viewing on the internet. A web page has been visited that contained the malware so was therefore on the PC and the endpoint protection software has deleted it for you. Personally I would clear the browsing cache for the last week and delete the whole of the TEMP folder that it references.

Virgin Media provide tech support for Virgin Media home broadband, Sky provide tech support for Sky Broadband, EE provide tech support for EE home broadband, BT tech support... etc. etc. etc. If the laptop can tether/connect to a wireless hotspot from your mobile phone (and not any School SSIDs) then there's nothing wrong on your side of things.

Yep, that. Sort of... We use PANDA AD360 (or whatever it's now called) for patch management every 2 weeks and that has a log of what it has done.

That all depends on what your Schools financial regulations say. That's why most places would not be able to get a 'free' audit but most suppliers will offer it in return for the business so you have to be careful what you agree to for anything 'free'. I'm assuming they will report straight back to the Head (thus bypassing you) and will most likely speak about them being an MSP instead of doing it in house so good luck with your audit - personally I'd be looking for employment elsewhere if you feel they dont trust/believe you as that's a red flag for me.

They can get weakened over time, it happens a lot with the USB MIDI keyboards we have that have a USB cable plugged in to them all the time. Sometimes you can manipulate the USB port from the inside to make a better connection but ultimately grabbing some USB ports from CPC or RS Components is a more permanet solution (assuming you're OK with a soldering iron or rework station that is).
