Allowing SLT and Cover staff to "drop in" on Teams
darkest_star replied to m0bov's topic in Cloud Services
Hi, did you encounter any problems with this? I have have an issue importing the power automate, I get the following error for DROP IN FLOW: Flow save failed with code 'DynamicOperationRequestClientFailure' and message 'The dynamic operation request to API 'sharepointonline' operation 'GetTable' failed with status code 'NotFound'. This may indicate invalid input parameters. Error response: { "status": 404, "message": "List not found\r\nclientRequestId: 897770d3-7d71-407b-ac08-16af811c5982\r\nserviceRequestId: 897770d3-7d71-407b-ac08-16af811c5982" }'. I can't see what is causing this. it is not in the file edited earlier in the script. -
If you have quite a bit of licencing changes to do or just want an over view of licences then I find this utility works really well: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Office365-License-cfd9489c/view/Discussions Its worked a treat for me to remove licence features for a large number of users.

What ever flavour or WIFI you choose in my opinion the Vendor who installs the system is as important as the system. If the Vendor is not up to scratch your experience of any system will be poor. All the systems mentioned have pros and cons and are in some way limited by their own technology stance. I would be looking on here for preferred suppliers and make sure you get what you pay for. clued up engineers are worth more than just throwing more AP's into an area.

Computer logging tools?
darkest_star replied to dany2010's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We are with Impero, we have have tried several others AB Tutor, Netsupport and none deliver anywhere near what Impero does. I feel the pain on the price but sometimes you only get what you pay for and we are using so much of Impero that we are seeing savings in Time and that equates to saving money. the plus+ things for us are 1. It works really well (most of the time) 2. It has the widest amount of features 3. support is really good (in our experience) 4. there seems to be a development road map the down side: 1. Price 2. Price 3. Price 4. You guessed it Price *Do I get a discount for shameless promnotion?? -
Discover is on the same VM as our main SIMS dB wether it is a physical box or a VM so long as it is beefy enough for SIMS it will run Discover.

Youtube adult content @ school
darkest_star replied to macsit's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We block Youtube for students and allow staff access, we use Planet eStream internally to record, save and deliver content, we are encouraging staff to use this instead of Youtube. -
Server room sits at 18-20

The Guys LUNS demo'd ZiLink for Moodle Single-Sign-on, SIMS integration, Room Booking and Parental Engagement Looked really good well worth a look If you have lots of money the 3D Printer from HP was great.

Now how about a cunning plan (as cunning as a fox indeed) to convince SMT that we need one hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm -
Moving VLE/Moodle from CLEO to our servers
darkest_star replied to happymeal's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
CLEO will charge as the backup ability is removed so you could not even get to the full backup option without being given a "decomitioning" charge for engineer time and giving you access to an ftp link with password. I think charging for full access to our data is out of order, but we needed to make th move away from CLEO so we paid it just to break free We decided against in house hosting even though we have the capacity as for us strategically it made more sense to spread the risk if the school was closed (snow etc) and we were runnning lessons we would hope an external source would be more resiliant etc If you have little Moodle experience please approach with caution as you are also responsible for security and updates another reason why we have kept our Moodle hosted else where. -
We have a laptop set up with the latest version of sims on and attach a reasonably uptodate backup of our data. We use this for teasting and also a couple of times as a real emergency backup to run the school when all other systems were down. it's straight forward todo but we keep it very secure as it is a portable copy odf your school data.

Hi The instructor really know his stuff and whilst we followed the course booket we went a lot further in dept into real time senarios rather than just follow the exam book page for page which I found much more useful so in all a good course.

We are having same issue here If 1 doc attached it works fine but if more than 1 it fails with a similar message to: The process cannot access the file \\server\Home folders$\Staff\user\My SIMS Documents\user.name\temp basic concerns letter over attendance .csv because it is being used by another process. I have looged this with SIMS Support Will report any fix here

XIRRUS have come in and replaced the system that was mentioned in the press and they are saying it works very well with 500 current users logging into it
-
Perhaps they should have had a 15 min Q&A rather than the 2 min one and more questions could have been answered
-
The Q & A was to short They never got round to answering all the questions or decided to ignore ours anyway
-
HAs anyone set up a policy for gathering the parent details and distributing usernames and passwords etc? We are just embarking on this and are interested in other experience / ideas.
-
We have the same issue here for a few users. I can run a report it takes only a few seconds to complie yet another user takes upto 40 mins to run same report. taskmanager shows excel taking up 100% I have deleted the users local profile and that has been a temp fix but the issue is re-occuring so still looking here

I looked at this at BETT as was asked by SMT to consider it The company said it was aimed at 6th form or smaller schools as the time taken to register would mean a bank of these installed The person is bathed in infra-red light so the image is consistent Seen it working at BETTS and was not that impressed with either the unit or the time taken to register
-
We have had the same issues here and in our case we deleted the local user profile and forcing it to be re-created turned a 40min report into a less than 2min report.

I am led to believe that the latest fixes do help but some of the issues with ePortal have workarounds rather than fixes at the moment. We are waiting a little longer to see if some more enhancments:rolleyes: come out. We have done the census on a standalone, we have also updated the standalone with the patches and it has improved the cover load speed but not to a really acceptable level for our school yet. The ePortal patch has not made a great deal of difference on the standalone but i would not know what it is like on a server. So going to wait a little longer here
