We don't use office365, other than Student Advantage. Would have been a good idea otherwise.

Can anyone recommend a website our English department can use for collaborative writing? We had something set up on our old VLE, but we are in the process of moving to a new one, and it isn't ready to go live yet.

yes, we fixed it by scrapping RM as well. The newest versions of windows Server make it all fairly simple.

My guess is that the machine has been shut down incorrectly and Windows repair run at boot. A rebuild is the only solution I'm afraid.

Exactly what I've just done I've asked a couple of affected staff to retry it.

We've had to move our SIMS installation to a new server. I've changed the drive mapping for staff by altering the GPP setting I had previously, and for most users this has worked. However, for some users the new setting hasn't applied. Any ideas why not or how I can enforce it?

I'd be more concerned about it ending up in someones bag - you'll need to look at a physical method of securing it.

What version of IE are you using? I find for IE10 and higher, setting the proxy in GPP is much more effective.

Salamander will extract those mail lists into Outlook - teachers of student x, form teachers, all students in form x - you ask for it, they will sort it for you.

There is a program on here which I have on my network - whenever a flash game is run which it hasn't seen before it copies it to a location on a server. You add the hash of that file to a blocklist, and the program closes any file it find with a hash on that list within 5 seconds of it starting. I've found enabling the gpo mentioned does put the metro apps to the end, but I would like to remove them completely. I will probably need to hid them in my image - I've seen on another page that deleting them prevents the creation of new profiles. Now I only need to re-find the desktop tile - it's there for admin, but not for restricted users, so that's a permissions issue somewhere and the right click on the start button.

I've just done it, fortunately only for one classroom. You can add individual computers, or a subnet. There is no option for a security group or OU. I suppose you could set reservations in DHCP so each computer is in it's own subnet.

Is it one machine per user? You could add the user or a security group to the local Network Configuration Operators group, which will allow them to add the machine to their home network, but I can't think of a way of opening control panel to a group of machines.

Can you make them privileged users?

But I don't want the windows apps at the front - I want my created groups first, and the windows apps A-Z at the end, if I can't get rid of them completely.

Enabled puts them first, disabled allows you to manage it, according to the notes. I might be wrong though

Ok, I think I'm nearly there. I have a few points I need to address - can anyone help: 1. The desktop tile doesn't show up for restricted users. 2. Is there an easy way to hid the Windows installed apps that appear when you click the down arrow on the start screen? i don't want to lose that area - it's showing my win7 start menu, with the 50-60 programs we have installed on the network, which I don't really want cluttering the start screen. 3. When I right click the start button on the desktop I get links to areas, like disk management, I don't want people to access. They can't run the programs, but it would be tidier if they didn't see the links.

it's the policies that apply to the users I'm having issues with - particularly the redirected start menu. I haven't yet created a Win8 start menu though, hopefully once that's done it will make more sense. I have created a separate OU for Win8 machines, and I'm fairly happy with the machine policies, I just need to get my head around how user policies cope with two OSs.
