  1. I'm trying to load Windows 10 on a hyper-v VM - I've done so successfully in the past. However, this time I'm seeing the attached every time I build it - even if I fully wipe the disk before loading. Any ideas?
  2. I've checked the hyper-v section of the event logs - all I get are: and Are there any other logs I can look at
  3. We have a number of virtual servers on a host (let's call it host 1) which replicate successfully to a second host (host 2). I have now created a new server on host 1, but whenever I try to enable replication on this new machine it times out, while all the time the other servers continue to replicate without error. What have I done wrong?
  4. I am, mainly, the software person - my colleague manages the switches and VLANS, basically all hardware. I'll pass the documentation over to him once I've done my bit, which is basically how it all works - the software, how and why its installed as it it. I've already got a list of servers, their IPs, and roles. I am in the process of going through all the software, how it's installed (SCCM, in image, central server install etc). I then need to explain SCCM and why I've set it up as I have, AD, GPOs, back up strategy and generally how to do anything that needs a mouse rather than a screwdriver.
  5. We have on-site Sharepoint, so I'm using that. No use if the school burns down, I know, so I will probably export a copy somewhere at some point.
  6. Well the time has come - I can't put it off any longer. Having built a new domain from scratch, and left the tender hands of RM, I really need to document our network. One day I will leave here, and I can't expect anyone to walk in and just know what I've done to make this all work. So, any tips - any easy way to document AD, or all my GPOs? Yes, I know I should have done it as I was going along, but does anyone really do that?
  7. Tasc Insight will do all that.
  8. Fixed it - a corrupt software restriction policy. Recreated that and everything else worked
  9. I just got an e-mail saying they are turning it back on at 5pm. There is a patch to clear the queue of old messages - might be worth contacting support. If you turn off the sync poller service it won't send anything until you're ready.
  10. I live 6 miles from Doncaster airport, so I see (and hear) it quite often.
  11. I've returned from holiday, and am revisiting this. Running gpresult with an elevated prompt works, and I now see that the policy is, apparently, being applied. However, I am still being prompted to press CTRL+ALT+DEL - this used to work, and I'm sure I haven't changed anything. Any ideas? UPDATE I've just made a change to the GPO, and gpresult sees the change, but doesn't apply it. What's going on?
  12. bumping...
  13. I successfully imaged over 1000 computers this Summer with no issues. However, the last three machines I've imaged, from the same fat image, using the same task sequences in SCCM, have the same issue. The parts of the default domain policy that controls the log on screen aren't applying - Interactive logon: Do not display last user name Enabled Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL Enabled I've tried creating a new GPO with only these two commands, but that doesn't work either. If I set the commands in the Local Security Policy on the workstation it holds. Trying to run gpresult /scope machine gives access denied. Any ideas?
  14. I go to the client machine and open the solus agent on there, check for updates, deploy. If I can't do that, sometimes checking client version on the management console can help
  15. Isn't it good that sysadmin day falls on a day we are unlikely to be blessed with users?
  16. I have trouble getting two teachers to agree what day it is, let alone what software they need to deliver a course!
  17. We will be running a consultation - all our new intake will be asked what their preferred method of communication will be. With nearly 2000 students, even if we can offload half the text messages we send to an app, it's a significant cost saving.
  18. Push messages to parents, inform about events, basically to replace text messaging parents.
  19. I've been asked to investigate a school app - does anyone have any experience of myschoolapp - mySchoolApp | Improve Parental Engagement or any other recommendations?
  20. I'm typing as I'm thinking here, so not fully sure if it's possible, but could you create three extra columns - Internet Access, Photograph Student and school visit, and then use some sort of look up so if the Parental consent box has the phrase "Internet Access" in it it puts a Y in the Internet Access column etc.? I see someone better with Excel than I beat me to it
  21. We're using IE11.
  22. The file won't download regardless of what we call it. I've asked her to try Chrome. It seems machine specific.
  23. Our data person is trying to download some cft files from the government site. When she attempts to do so, the file name is changed, and attempting to save it with the correct filename results in the message that the file cannot be downloaded. I've checked our web logs and nothing is being blocked. Any ideas?
  24. Shouldn't "dialogDesc" : "Consider printing in colour to reduce costs"}); be "dialogDesc" : "Consider printing in monochrome to reduce costs"});?
