  1. We currently use Puremessage, not only to block incoming spam, but also to prevent students sending inappropriate mail internally. We are coming to the end of the licence, and are looking at alternatives - any recommendations?
  2. First unread is looking too, thanks
  3. Waiting to hear back from my reseller now - I have someone waiting for it, so if it was an easy fix I'd have tried first.
  4. I set the BIOS originally in the same way as I set the BIOS for other Dell models, and they allowed PXE, so I'm wondering if it had an issue to start with. The fact it won't even boot into diagnostic mode makes me think it could well be a hardware issue.
  5. I can't get into the boot options to boot from usb
  6. Thanks for the move
  7. I'm not sure I've got this in the right forum - mods, feel free to move. I have a brand new Dell Latitude 3330. It initially failed to PXE boot, so I flashed the BIOS. It still didn't PXE, so I made a couple of changes in BIOS, rebooted, changed back etc - in all I think I successfully changed the BIOS 3 or 4 times after flashing it, so I don't think flashing the BIOS caused the problem I am now seeing - it isn't completing POST. The bar stops about 3/4 of the way across - if I press F2 to go into BIOS, F12 to select boot device, or FN to enter diagnostic mode, I still get the same thing - a progress bar that sticks about 3/4 of the way across the screen. I've removed the battery and held down the power button to no avail. HELP!!!
  8. I like the new options at the top of the "What's New" page, but it seems to have reset all of my counters - when I click on the downward arrow or the "Jump to first unread" link I get taken to the first post.
  9. I am now getting complaints from students that they can no longer shut down Impero - success I think - thanks @10101010
  10. We did it last summer - don't underestimate the job - plan, plan then plan some more. Look at everything RM gives you, and find an alternative way of managing it. We took the opportunity to virtualise our servers at the same time, and I had the "new" domain (one DC, SCCM, and a couple of clients to start, added in file servers and print server) set up on a virtual host by Easter. This gave me time to test software deployment and station building before we went live over the Summer.
  11. Shared areas? I'm guessing you'll have areas for staff to share documents with each other and with students - make sure you know who has what rights to where.
  12. We have linked Facebook and Twitter pages - they became the focal point of the community last year when we lost five students in a car accident. Very few negative comments, which we quickly hid and contact the poster. Posts to the page are hidden until approved, and only I and my boss have admin rights.
  13. thank you @10101010 i didn't know those options were there - the logs are illuminating.
  14. Despite been set to restart on failure, we are having a large number of workstations showing off-line in console, when investigation shows the Impero client service has stopped. I had a call open with Impero, and they failed to resolve it - they basically said Windows updates was shutting the machine down and causing it to go off in the console. If that was happening mid lesson I'd have teachers knocking my door down, so I'm fairly sure that's not why Impero has never worked properly. I've heard rumours that the students have found a way of stopping the service, and the fact that the problem seems worse in Upper School (Y10 and 11) adds weight to that. I've hidden the task bar icon from students, so they aren't stopping it that way. I'd like to run a script on student machines at regular intervals, checking for the service, and restarting it if it has failed. However, my scripting skills aren't great - can anyone recommend a way I can make Impero work?
  15. I've fixed this - I replaced web.config with an original one and re ran the setup.
  16. I tried this, and realised I had forgotten the password of the user set up for HAP, so I reset it, input into the setup page, and saved it. However, I now get this error: Server Error in '/hap' Application. The user name or password is incorrect. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException: The user name or password is incorrect. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
  17. We put a folder on the c drive of each machine with the machine specific shortcuts, and redirect to that folder.
  18. We put our web based helpdesk as a tab on the home page of IE - they still use e-mail - even if it's to report a problem with a web page on another tab.
  19. We're looking at sims performance at the moment - SIMS support have advised I set up maintenance plans in SQL manager - shrinking log files and backing up the database. I was also advised to switch to simple recovery. My database is just short of 9Gb. Another piece of advice was to ensure that I had more RAM that the size of the mdf and ldf combined.
  20. Yes, partly - partly because we have the kit - tapes and tape drive. I would like to hold monthly archives, and disk space is finite.
  21. When setting up HAP I, wrongly, it turned out, deleted a number of resources on the set up page, rather than hiding them. I now need them back - how do I do that?
  22. I know our certificates are OK - as I say it's a wildcard cert that works perfectly for other published sites. I have just discovered that I can't RD into any machines from the TMG - could that be affecting anything? It works perfectly internally, on the same URL as we'd use externally. The only difference is externally it's published through TMG. The listener is possibly the problem - we have a listener on TMG for OWA, and. I'm told, the authentication methods for OWA and RDWeb are different, and we can't have multiple listeners on the same port.
  23. No it tells me the remote gateway address is incorrect - I assume I need to put access.domain.org in there?
  24. We have tried all the excellent suggestions here, and many found in google, and are no further forward. I'm thinking of ripping it all out and starting again. Before I do, can anyone recommend a walk through that worked for them, that we can follow?
