  1. You can set Recipient limits in Mail Flow. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mail-flow/message-size-limits?view=exchserver-2019
  2. Sorry I was only using them as an example against the claim that having no opt out would exclude you from a service.
  3. So how does every bank, insurance company and other major corporation get away with it? You aren't being denied a service, you could still write or email in.
  4. We don't have phones in every classroom. We do have the Softphone software installed on every PC so staff could use that. The only exception is the IT lab so they can get hold of us in the event of a mass issue. But they don't. It does depend on what the school wants. I think the thought process here was along the lines of "If there are phones in every class someone is going to ring them, this will disturb teaching. To stop this the ringer will be turned off. The phone is now 50% less useful so why do it". There are phones dotted around outside classrooms though so they can get someone if needed.
  5. You need to change licence suppliers. I'm getting Datacenter for less than £500. Though if you are only running 2 VMs per host you may be overspending/overspeccing your solution, or underspeccing your servers.
  6. Get a Datacenter licence. Save you loads of money. On topic, partly a historical thing really. VMWare used to be miles ahead of Hyper-V and had more support. It can also depend on your view. I have heard the opinion that VMWare means a difference in platform so if Windows gets attacked at least your infrastructure is OK, that being based on 'nix it is more stable and secure.
  7. I have just recently done one. For generic IT Department questions I just asked if they used the Help Desk and if not what were the reasons that stopped them, with tickboxes for the main gripes and an other box. Then I had an array with 1-5 options for Response Times, Clarity of explanations and instructions, Communication, Approachability (for asking questions or proposing ideas) and overall. I asked what IT related issues they felt hindered their job with the options "None, Lack of hardware (PCs or mobile devices), Lack of specific software, Personal knowledge, Paper based systems still being used, Speed of system, Stability of the system, Printing/Copying, Other" and a free text box for any other issues. I then had a section on IT in teaching & learning that was hidden from Support staff, a question about personal devices, CD/DVDs and then a question about what training they would like. Finally a free text box for some final thoughts. Was well received and it means when we do another one we will be able to see if our scores in those areas have gone up or down. Most of the other questions were due to particular things the school wanted to find out. Generally I would keep it short and sweet and get answers that can be graded with the option to expand in a free text box. People will generally open up to their reasoning but if you only have a text box it makes it harder to analyse. There is a massive debate to be had over anonymous or not. I generally go for anon, to encourage people to fill it out honestly, but this year we had a lot of really dense answers that I wish I could follow up. Message me if you would like a PDF of the survey to get an idea of how it was.
  8. We got one for parent events and random purchases. I didn't deal with the admin side but had no technical issues raised. The person that dealt with it, and set it up, was non-technical, so shows how easy it was. The parents I had a brief word with that used it really liked it as everything was there in front of them and speed up their transactions massively.
  9. Seems all sorted here.
  10. GLPI with OCS Inventory is another option for open source. Otherwise SolarWinds Web Help Desk does inventory, Help desk and parts.
  11. Any HDDs that need disposing of? Give them to him to work out how they work. He can also get some cool magnets, IF he promises to be good with them.
  12. https://www.petri.com/enable-secure-ldap-windows-server-2008-2012-dc-configuration or https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/321051/how-to-enable-ldap-over-ssl-with-a-third-party-certification-authority
  13. Almost certainly.
  14. LDP does work with 636, I've been doing testing with it. As Mavhc said, make sure you use FQDN and that it is a proper certificate, unless you can install the cert on all the devices using it.
  15. That means it is only deployed to "Unknown PCs". If you also deploy to "All Workstations" you can re-image. As an additional check I always set it the "Make available" drop to just PXE, to make sure nothing can accidentally deployed and it overwrite all servers or something hideous as has happened elsewhere.
  16. We use Emco Remote Shutdown Enterprise, which also does wake up. I have a strong feeling though that if your hardware isn't working with WOL then no solution will help. Check the power and NIC settings in the BIOS. You need to check the power mode it is on (must be S3 or S4) and if the NIC is onboard that it can wake the PC or that WOL is enabled.
  17. I have not yet, but due to the GDPR issues I didn't pursue it.
  18. Update. I still get a warning but it doesn't lock the account. I may adjust it to be a bit slower so we don't get an email every week but otherwise it is OK.
  19. Do you have a ticketing system at all? If you do then that may have the features. We use Web Help Desk and that has inventory and cost tracking, can li k to external authentication systems and can take CSV lists of devices. It may be able to import direct from Google though. It also reads a mailbox so students and staff could email in their issue and any response or update would get forwarded on to them.
  20. Word of warning about Wonde badges, unless something major has changed they have to become your SSO provider. This means if you use say AzureAD to SSO your Google logins then you would have to break this link. They are also bad at remembering this as we went all the way to implementation, checking that they did not have to take over our SSO all the way, before the engineer took one look and had to stop as we already had an SSO. Was very frustrating.
  21. Well I have set the 5000 to 2 and I will see what happens Friday night. We are on an automatic process but I will warn the Librarian if she clicks it manually.
  22. Did you manage to get any more info on this? Looks like it is happening every Friday night for us, I'm guessing that is when the scheduled email is set to go out, so I think I need to sort this sooner than I predicted!
  23. There isn't really an Intune deployment. You either join the device to Intune manually or you use AutoPilot, which automatically joins a registered new device to your InTune. By registered I mean either your supplier has added them via a portal or you have used a script to add their details to your InTune. So we added the devices we wanted on InTune with a script and now use MDT, seperate from our SCCM, to wipe the device with a blank customised fresh image. Once the new user config starts it joins it to InTune.
  24. Are you able to give us a time frame? I mean are announcements coming at BETT or is it an indeterminate time within the next 10 months? Unless there are project delays.
  25. Are sessions available online after BETT? There are some interesting talks but you can't be there everyday!
