1. Cheers for the response. I had made some changes by editing the XML page but I just wanted to know if I'd set something up or done something wrong. I take it then you are aware of the general issue then.
2. I can also get it go to wrong when attempting to manipulate the mappings with the below error. POST https://srvhap.worksopcollege.notts.sch.uk/hap/API/Setup/UpdateMapping 400 An WCF Error has Occured 5ms jquery.min.js (line 6) HeadersPostResponseXMLJSONCookies Sort by key Message "The given key was not present in the dictionary." Detail null FaultType "KeyNotFoundException" Though it only does that occasionally...
3. Hi there, I've just installed HAP+ using the latest version (which might be 9.6 if the file is to be believed though it's listed under version 9.7) It all looks OK however I'm having issues modifying mappings. I've created them and they work OK. When I try and modify or delete them I get an error. Debugging info POST https://srvhap.worksopcollege.notts.sch.uk/hap/API/Setup/RemoveMapping 400 An WCF Error has Occured 16ms jquery.min.js (line 6) HeadersPostResponseXMLJSONCookies Sort by key Message "The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter HAP.Web.API:drive. The InnerException message was 'There was an error deserializing the object of type System.String. The token ':' was expected but found ','.'. Please see InnerException for more details." Detail null FaultType "NetDispatcherFaultException" I also get a similar message when I attempt to modify the mapping. POST https://srvhap.worksopcollege.notts.sch.uk/hap/API/Setup/UpdateMapping 400 An WCF Error has Occured 15ms jquery.min.js (line 6) HeadersPostResponseXMLJSONCookies Sort by key Message "The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter HAP.Web.API:origunc. I don't seem to be able to remove this blank entry. What can I do about this? I'm running it on a Win2k8R2 server and running the setup and initial testing using firefox on window 8.1.
4. So in the bad old days I set up some VM's with E1000 network cards. However due to some network related issues I want to change them to VMXNET3 adaptors. What's the best way to do this? I've seen some stuff about editing the VMX file in a text editor, is that viable and safe? Alternatively I could add a new adaptop to the VM, change IP settings over and then remove the old adaptor, this seems OK but is a faff. So any recomentdations for the best way as as far as I can see there is no option in the GUI to just change it. Cheers.
5. Hi there, Is there a way to increase the size of the C partition if it's NOT the last partition on the disk without deleting the other partitions or resorting to buying super expensive software for something that I only need to do once. *cough* Acronis *Cough*. Not bothered if I have to re-boot the server at this point in time.
6. I should point out that my wireless is fairly new and prety good. I am not looking to upgrade the points so to speak just look for weak points to add more access points in, this helps if you can produce prety pictures for the SMT. Whilst we had a proper survey done by the installer proir to the install which produced heat maps whcih were used to site the AP's they have a couple of issues: 1: We didn't phyically survery every inch of the site, we ran representative samples and then they used the software to extrapoltate the coverage we would need. 2: They extrapolated coverate into area's we didn't want coverage so I have had to move access points a few meter's here and there. 3: Some of our building plans are rubbish and don't match what's actually there. If possible I want to avoid having to pay to have someone come in and wander the site if I can do it myself. I just want to check the plan's against reality and get an idea as to which area's need more AP's. Whilst there should be a budget next year if I can save it by doing this myself I can spend more on AP's.
7. Yes, got that but the free version says it's limited to 15 munutes mapping. Which will be a bit of a struggle to get round the site.. It looks very good though
8. When we had our system installed we were told that 30 is a good "usable" maximum. Though it should cope with 50.
9. Hi there, Has anyone got some recomendations for some (Preferably) Free or relatively cheap software I can use to so maps showing signal strenght over our site? Our wireless network is in but I want to do some maps for phase 3 next year to show where the weak spots are. Prety colourfull pictures are always hlepfull for SLT's
10. I use WSUS and the associated GPO. All updates are download automatically but install date it set to Mondays at 6. I then WOL everything just before that and done. Powerplan is GPP but I'm looking at PowerMAN if I every get chance.
11. Just tried this module but adding blank rules as everything is on the same machine. Didn't seem to work despite it working when using the test feature. Not tried the reverse proxy bit as it required stuff to be installed.
12. I've got a website running under IIS and under it 3 actual sites, so basically http://servername/siteA http://servername/siteB http://servername/siteC Now I've creted a DNS alias for it so that people can type in to the URL and finds the server (which has a differnent name) and routes any requests onto the first site so, http://SiteA ==> http://servername/siteA However I want to set up DNS alias's for all the sites (to make it easier for people to remember which site they are going to and get their directly, not via a web page where they choose) and have it route to each site. http://SiteA ==> http://servername/siteA http://SiteB ==> http://servername/siteB http://SiteC ==> http://servername/siteC The DNS is all fine as you just point it at the server, I want to know if it's posasible, and how to, have IIS redirect to a different site based on what url was requested.
13. Hi there, Are there people out there using Capita's Hosted SLG and finding that a large number of the parents have issues logging in? Esentially I am wondering if there is something inherantly flawed with the system where by it constantly loses login information or if there is basically a user error issue whereby people fail to read the instructions regarding password complexity or setting up security questions.
14. You need to use the user preferences and group policy loopback processing to apply them to PC's they you can set the default and add networked printers easilly. One piece of advice I found was make sure you use the FQDN of the print server even if it's local to your network. (though this will cause confusion printing from Adobe products where there are a large number of printers installed (you'll see)) I also found that it: slowed down the login to windows by a huge amount Randomly decided to lose all the printers on on occasion didn't detect a local printer on some older printer models thereby cocking up the "set as default unless local printer present" option. so I ditched it this summer and I've gone back to VBS login scripts which are much quicker. I wish I could have got it to work as it should be really good. The only good news for me is that I now have some very funky printer scripts to install printers for staff and only set defaults if there is no local printer so not all bad.
15. Could do. I was trying to avoid any extra work for me like editing his work to get what he needs. As his files totak 2Gb it's not easilly E-mail-able.
16. I'm thinking excryped files on memory stick...
17. Would love to, they are however in a differnet country and their parents live in another different country, so it's a bit of a trek. I'm kind of looking to a way to help them however their lack of planning is not my fault and I need to cover me/the School.
18. So this year I have had a few ex students struggling with the concept that when they leave I will delete their account. So they want their work... No as I archive it off having it is no problem its how I transport it to them assuring data compliance. Can I get them to set something up,i.e. a shared SkyDrive/DropBox folder and I upload it? trusting that the e-mail I have received it genuinly from them (I think it is but we have to live in an untrusting world). Do I play hardball and say the only way you can have it is if I send it to your home address that we have in our database (on encrypted memory stick)? The first is quicker but it's the world we live in and the things we have to comply with that worry me.
19. We had a number or problems when we first installed it, the most serious/anoying being that the one agent that went wrong was the one on the server (different GUID on the client and in the server DB). However having said that the version I am currently running (3.5 something or other) has been pretty good. To the extent where I have actually dared to run my SIMS update's overnight when no-one is in! And it's actually worked prety will. There are a few failures, most down to early risers getting in and opening SIMS before it's updates and anoying it (or the Head having his computer on all night) or when the PC is off at the wall and I can't WOL it. Re-delpoying the update usually fixes these OK so on the whole it's actually OK. My only real issue is it not deploying the components to run Option/Nova autonatically!!!
20. So the topic says it all, in order to minimise printer script maintenance I want to run one VB script from within another one. So essentially I'm using this Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ) Wshshell.run ("""c:\users\me\desktop\staff Printers.vbs""") Which all works nicely. However when I modify it to run on the netwotk to: Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ) Wshshell.run ("""\\\Sysvol\\scripts\printer\staff Printers.vbs""") it fails. As far as I can tell it's not running the script. Yet if I run \\\Sysvol\\scripts\printer\staff Printers.vbs manually on the PC it runs and does it's thing so I know it's not that the PC cant's see the file. And now I'm confused and I don't know whats up?
21. Cheers for that. It's worked great for staff however I've hit a slight issue. I can adapt it to return the PC's DN but I can't get it to return the group membership of the PC so I can perform actions if a PC is in certain groups... and suggestions?
22. It might help, possibly the staff one... Basically I need to apply all the printer mappings to all the classroom PC's however I don't want to set a default if there is a local printer. As all the PC's with local printers are members of my papercut group they are easy to find, however they are scattered throughout the OU's
23. Hi there, I'm using some fairly basic vbs login scripts to map my printers in (below). (I've had to resort back to this becuase GPP has proved to be not as efective as I'd like). Is there a way to find and check a PC's Group membership as part of the script? Specifically I want to see if the PC is a member of a windows security group and if it is apply one setting and if it isn't a different one. Current script for reference rem ** Next line must not be deleted ** Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") rem ** This will delete existing printers ** On Error Resume Next Set oPrinters = WshNetwork.EnumPrinterConnections For i = 1 to oPrinters.Count - 1 Step 2 WshNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection oPrinters.Item(i) Next rem ** Setup new printer connection ** WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\\" rem ** Setup default printer ** WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\\"
24. We got the results OK but there seem to be issues with our Edexcel file, some students are showing up with partial absence flags for IGCSE French and SIMS is throwing up "handlled errors". This case it doens't appear to be SIMS to be at fault. The "issues" are matched with eronious/strange entries on the students results on Edexcel online. Gooo Edexcel!!!
25. I've set up my Windows 2008R2 Server with the IIS role and the basic (default) options. Tested it and the IIS start page appears. What I want is to host a proxy.pac file on the server (as the web proxy I have doesn't allow me to host it on itself). If I put the file in the wwwroot folder on the server and try and http into it ( http:///proxy.pac ) I get a 404 File or directory not found error. The auto configuration is clearly not working in IE. So should I be able to web into the file once it's there? Presumably yes and then IE would allow me to download the file so what really basic thing have I not done? I can't know if the proxy.pac file is correct until I can be sure the PC is accessing it
