  1. Hi there, I'm setting up O365 for our school but have a bit of a concern. We want to use AD sync however our Windows AD domain is our old domain name that we have publicly made defunct (I just haven't renamed the AD domain as that's not fun). When we have pupils log in I want to use our new domain. Is there a way round this? Basically as far as windows locally is concerned users are "username@OldDomain" but for E-mail it's "username@NewDomain" and it's username@NewDomain I need for O365. I have validated our new domain so that's all sorted.
  2. I'm hoping that someone out there has been playing with this and has had the same problem and can help. I've created a custom start screen, put it on a client and under test it works fine. The problem is that under test the custom start screen is about the only policy that's applying. When I run it against the full Group Policy the "this PC", "Dcouments", "Pictures" and "Desktop" tiles all vanish. Without a large amout of trial and error I don't know how to find the cause of this. Nothing obvious looks out of place, all the links are enabled for the start menu (both in GP setting and GPP) and everything works OK under Win7. So any ideas what policies could possibly supress them? When I logged in as a test, then logged in with all the polices the icons were there for a second then it looked like they were removed.
  3. I mostly just robocopy everything to be honest
  4. Thouhgt I'd jump on the band wagon a little as I'm currently trying to get this to work. Works fine if I export the layoutm, set up a local XML file and use GP to asign that to a user where the start screen is the only policy applied. As soon as I link in all my Policies it only show's IE. (no office or anything else) It's driving me nuts!
  5. Not a massive issue (I think). Being Indy I don't think that matters as the parents are all fee paying
  6. That would be tricky as I suspect both of those are me.
  7. Cheers for the responses. I hadn't thought about census stuff. I have already asked for feedback on the "why" as I agree that there are better ways to handle this. Any more responses greatfully received.
  8. Our SLT have decided they want the pupil roll over to happen earlier and alter the admission dates so all the pupils appear in SIMS a bit earlier so essentially the academic year starts August 1 as far as SIMS is concerned. Not really sure what the problem is but apparently it's what they want. So presumably it's just a case of setting the start of term/end of term to whatever they want, specifically the first of August and away you go. So my question here is what's going to go horribly wrong. So far I've got: You can't edit the current year and I've no idea what overlapping the academic year would do. It's incorrect data, the students are not here so there. (Being indy I suspect we might be able to get away with a little bit but not sure) I've no idea what kind of headaches would occur with downloading and analysing the exam results Possibilites of all kinds of headaches over the lesson/session attendance Any other suggestions? And anybody actuallly roll the academic year up earlier than the actual start of the year?

Hi there, I don't suppose anyone has some MSI files for flash version 9 (preferably the latest to be released). Even better if there is the activeX and plugin versions. Apparently I need to roll back my installations on a couple of PC's in order for some exam test software that wants any version as long as it's not 10 or above.
  11. Basically this. You need quicktime and apple application installed and modify the MSI's to that they only install english (think Chinese is the default) and it should work.
  12. Hi there, I've checked internally and on our wireless which connects direct to our ISP's servers. Changes seem to have happened for their DNS and result is the same. As far as I can tell DNS is doing what it should (based on what it's doing here) and I'm worried that it's an issuse with the webserver config. I'm having to contend with waiting for DNS Changes to fully resolve with wanting to make sure there isn't a problem before DNS changes finish and our web presnece totally drops off the net. Local DNS Changes would happen instanly and should work though...
  13. All, Urgent problem. Disclaimer: Our website design and hosting are all outsourced by our marketing department and thus I don't know the exact setup. Plus my webserver configuration knowledge is not the best. However I still get asked if there is a problem. We have moved design company and hosting today to a new website and new server with a new company. I have changed the DNS settings however when we put in our URL I get a 404 URL not found error page. New company seem to be hosting multiple sites on the same server, this our site is physically set up in a subdomain of their hosting. So our site is physically at ..co.uk. As per the request I've removed the A records in DNS where www..co.uk points to and created CNAME records where www..co.uk points to ..co.uk If I type in the URL ..co.uk I get our website so it's physically where it should be. However www..co.uk leads to a 404 URL not found. If I Ping www..co.uk it resolves to ..co.uk with the correct IP address. Can then copy and paste the URL, ..co.uk from the Ping and get our website so I've not put it a stupid typo in the DNS. This would also seem to me that DNS is correct and working as it should do. So what are the likely possibilites as to why www..co.uk does not display a site?
  14. ICT Technician job going. Job Vacancies | Worksop College We are on the edge of Nottinghamshire near South Yorkshire. Just in case it's not clear from the advert the job is based at our Prep School near Ranby village, just off the A1 but there will be some work at the senior school.

  15. Hi there, Just a quick question, anybody else using the above site? If so how do you find it? Our head of maths keeps complaining that the games don't load when they did before and it's affecting lessons. We look at it and it works fine. We've got a smoothwall web proxy and the site is configured to be allowed and every time we come and check it it's working OK. My techie tried it from home the other day and found it a bit ropey so we are wondering if it's their website but I didn't want to say anything until I'd seen if others were having issues or whether it mightn't be something else at our end.
  16. I was wondering if that was the case. My response would be to pass it through to those members of the SLG who deal it hit and let them worry
  17. I've got a hard disk which sounds suspiciously like the read/write heads have failed. Does anyone know of or can recomend a company that might be able to recover the data? Obviously my instructions that I can't back it up and that you can have it for only storing obsolete data on were not listened to, thus making me the bad guy.
  18. At the moment no. As long as VMWare will let me create one one then I could knock one up quickly, however my Lunix is weak at best.
  19. Does anyone have any recomendations (is there any?) for a decent free DVD Server impimentation so I can share DVD's around the site (those I can legally do so Don't really want to have to buy something if VERY few people are going to be using it. Cheers
  20. So work have decided to schedule major works for a time over the Christmas holidays when work is officaily Closed. As neither me or the other half are particulalry keen on the idea of me coming in to shut everything off gracefully I was wondering, is there a way to script/time the shutdown of my VMWare hosts? I'll be setting the servers to switch off (Scheduled tasks) but shutting down by not sure about how to time and script the shutdown of the vmware hosts themselves. Any suggestions? We are running esxi 5.1 with vcenter.
  21. Cheers for the responses. For reference the answer to "why are you doing x" is mostly "Because I am rubbish". However the help is appreciated and I shall give the suggestions a go tomorrow and see how I get on. Thanks!
  22. Just been playing with adding HTML signatures to the bottom of our E-mails (becuase having it the same size as the rest of the text seems to be offensive to our SMT for some reason even though it only appears on mail sent externally) Given that my HTML-fu is weak I've been using a lot of WYSIWIG editors and playing. Now this is the code I've got, ********************College_Disclaimer******************** This communication contains information which is confidential and may also be privileged. It's fine when I went on W3School's online HTML tester thing to see what your HTML actually looks like. However when I view the message in web based E-mail such as hotmail instead of looking like this Paragraph1 Paragraph2 Paragraph3 It looks more like this Paragrapgh1 Paragraph2 Paragraph3 It's like the tag is adding an extra line in like a new paragraph and I don't understand why...
  23. We were trying to decide between a Ruckus and Meru but ended up going for Meru. To be honest it's been fine. The only problem I had was getting the SSL certificate for the controller in but actual usage I've not seen any problems and it seems to cope prety well with out 1890's stone building.
  24. Can I ask a question of those using Hosted SLG provided by Capita. We have problems with parents rfailing to log in. Now I accept that the system where they have to manually enter a security question and need to put "HOSTED\ is not the easiest of password re-set mechanisms however I can live with it but we do get a large number of parents failing to log in. Do others feel the system inherantly flawed to the extent where people's accounts are just failing and require me to re-set the passwords or is it just that people don't remember/record the information? I personally feel the latter, especially as if the system were flawed to the level based on the number of requests I get it would have affected me or my technican by now (statistically). I just wondered what others felt about that specific bit of the hosted SLG process.
  25. Hi there, I've set up MRBS on our network and got it using NT authentication which means no logins and nicely popultes the user whith their actualy usename and no additional work for me. However i'd like to enable it so the pupils have read only access. At the minute, if they knew where the site was, they would be able to put bookings in and I don't want that to happen. Is there a way to set this up?
