i dont see the point in large HDDs for work stations, we have NAS boxes for large stuff, mine does get filled up a lil when downloading high res pics from cameras but 200gb would suffice if i was to upgrade and i only say that much as for the price these days why not. id spend the money saved upgrading the CPU or RAM lol

ours our e6600 @ 2.4GHz with 2GB of RAM ot really big hdds (40GB) we each have 19" screens i have a NVIDIA 8400GS. Running XP CC3 by the time these are upfor upgrade (another year i think) we will prob be getting quad cores 4GB +, i would love to work on Win 7 here (tba faff with it with CC3 tho) but by that time we should have "upgraded" to CC4 so Win 7 will work with that (i'm told) i do need a new keyboard tho, my 'n' and 'm' keys have gone funny lol

we are having serious issues at the moment and have no resolution, even with the contiuing help from RM and county we are running CC3 btw seems that our student user type is corrupt. they get no access to the internet, my docs icon doesnt work (tho the N: does) no printers are allocating to the correct place, and the AUP screen post logon displays no nw connection (tho as i say they can see their N; drive). Staff areas work fine, with all the above. we have tried editing the usertype with no joy, creating a new user type with no joy, duplicating the default usertype ....then editing applying staff user type to (our own) student accounts duplicating staff usertype and applying to (our) student accounts .....a server reboot uninstalling then reinstalling type manager + templates creating new accounts with both staff and student types resetting profiles, and health check...just fails i am rebuilding a station (for the sake of it really just to tick a box and say we tried it) .....not tried crying yet....getting close tho really if any have ideas please please help. as you know its course work time, and we are getting hammered! am on a saving mission at present tho a thinking a trip to the pub tonight is goin to happen!!!

yeah the 'server' service was running along with 'server nfs'. whats this have to do bio? just finished a rebuild and copied 50gb of data bk time go in a sec and see if it is still standing in the morrow!

am gonna reinstall (during school time lol) have the old srver have swapped to that for time being. when i reinstall will use the drivers on disk or site not standard win drivers suppose will be a good idea. another weird thing t'was doing, when setting up shares took ages to search for users/usertypes off the domain. sharing the files wasnt too slow (folders of 20gb gonna take a while to apply permissions) but searching on the old old server and other1s is done in seconds not mins.

Shares from our Windows Server 2008 machine disappear daily, these are being used are our shared docs. I can remote desktop to it but not connect to the server via windows explorer. arrived this morning all was fine, now it seems to have gone FUBAR agen. i have tried so far: removing from the domain deleting the shares rejoining then reconnecting have swapped the nw port (generally for the sake of it lol) tried restarting services left and right (only one that sounds right is 'server for NFS' just removed the file services roll see how this goes want to do a complete reinstall but cant get in til this sat. only thing to solve it is a restart. but if stations have lost the mappings they need a restart too. please please any ideas, clues, insights.....anything have being trying since last week to resolve this no joy yet

they are locked down very tightly requires authetication thru the AD. there were some bugs in my code earlier on which let ppl browse the root of the drive etc but i ironed these out. it has been working very well and staff have taken advantage of uploading from home etc as the title suggests an EMP would be great about now!

O what a fun week we have had! Swapped over to our new web server monday...wish i hadnt. Continual problems all week! Our shared areas (kids, staff, multimedia etc) are housed on our web server, as i have them shared on our site so staff can upload resources from home, and kids can get to stuff. this is all achieved with fancy asp and authentication on the webserver to the AD. this has been working great on the past two web servers (one was a NAS box which couldnt cope so i moved to a old out of warranty server which could cope whilst i begged for money for a new server). this has now arrived. moved all files over (i cheated and used the xcopy command to keep permissions....wish i hadnt! has blown up in my face. now shared drives are dropping off or freezing. only way to restore to working order is a restart of the server. tried restarting services left right and centre! no joy! looked in event viewer, noticed to errors occurring 'NfsClnt 16397' which i have now stopped (was an erronous permission from the old server) now getting 'TCPIP 4227' which MS says to fix i have to disable then enable the NIC......5 times aday! still doesnt really help so.....restart! arrrrgggghhhhh makes me cry a lil really lol at least the backups are working!!! getting emails complaining all day!!! this really is the problem with having near 100% uptime over the years, ppl get used to it and its really noticeable when this s*it happens. this problem seems to have killed other things too; printers and goin crazy! they are appearing in all the wrong places. a package i created yday has killed active studio easy but time consuming to fix. oh and for some reason when we reset profiles ppl can see the management programs. jealous yet? lol looks like i will be coming in saturday! bloody weather is lovely too, just wanted beer garden and the missus for a quite relaxing weekend but noooooo as well as this my 'n' key is playing funny buggers....so i have to jab it when typing!!! sorry needed to vent! lol seems be working now any way ..... for the time being! roll on pay day! lol

We have some shares on s s08 server and the server keeps erroring and i get this in even viewer source NfsClnt ID 16397 Windows(R) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) failed a request to connect to Active Directory Domain Services(R) for Windows user . Without the corresponding UNIX identity of the Windows user, the user cannot access Network File System (NFS) shared resources. Verify that the Windows user is in Active Directory Domain Services and has access permissions the whole place is going crazy at the mo my collegues are messing with Lego NXTs as some random uni guy is in for tech/sci. cctv has gone haywire. my dog has run off. and have no money for a beer till next wed!!!! pls help

i did have to call my school the other week, and got put on hold, found my self singing(making noises to the music) along. was that kinda opera/strings type music they have on the olymics. but i would have some random stuff on defo my collegue would say flower kings and they maybe giants. i would go for nirvana or the foos, or joe bonamassa or sea sick steve lol either that or totally random NWA lol
