mmmm looks good, i am goin to try and mod this to run off our AD as giving staff a new system to remember a different password too....and signing up to something, filling in their email etc.... shouldnt be too hard really, i have also changed the look and feel of it a lil so far will see if it gets used tho

Greetings all after having to place a second order this fiscal for more toner we are re-evaluating our policies on printing in the school. this year our big order was just under £10k for toner and ink! crazy i know! and we have had to order more! we have about 70 printers in the school (30 col 40 mono) yep alot! we have a 'credit system' which is not enforced, students just get more. i want to know what the rest of you do i have read http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/10585-printing-credits-limits.html this thread but we cant really charge (tho i will be listing this in my proposal.) so any ideas please help ways of monitoring printer use?? etc

i wrote my own content management system, the entire site is written my me lol am currently writing a VLE with an assessment system in there. oh the headache. the gallery uses the same (well similar) code to part of the vle, staff simply paste photos into a drive mapping and the code reads them and displays as pictures. they do have to resize them but i just packaged the windows powertoy so they just highlight them and then right click resize so they load quicker on the webby. ah well back to the coding currently putting off writng my own youtube system for the website just wish i was paid to do website stuff!!!

currently making my own the shared area section is now complete (beta lol) making an assessment area and other gubbins all in ASP

i have created a system on out web site which functions like a VLE basically reads the contence of the specific folder and prints as html...anyway...the kids (and staff) have to login to this, using their school un and pw. works a treat now (log time battles tho). have the same doing on the admin pages for the site. staff were not using the old site bcus they had to sign up for it then remembeer their un and pw. if you want any specific advice how to set this up drop me a line (number on our website, dont really want it plastered on the net) ask for Adam. after a long and arduous process of creating it and a cms. files for the cms files are in one folder. I have created groups called 'PAI Website access' and 'PAI No Web site access' I have then unticked the annomous access box for that folder. Then in the permissions settings denyed IUSER and PAI No Website access' and given 'PAI Website access' Full controll. so when i run this in Firefox a nice little PW box appears, i enter my student un and pw who is in the group 'no access' - no access PW box appears GREAT enter my teacher details 'PAI website access' and im in GREAT ooo best test it in IE, (just to not my station has IE8 on) i get You are not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to accept. just before i started reading this article lol i read the other through digg and when i saw 2 stories reminding me how dirty they i i got the foam spray out and give mine a good wipe down! all my kit needs a good clean becaus eof the dust in the new office but meh

at present we are in a temp office, which is a class room with a wooden partition down the middle, in here we have a rack cab (with 3 servers and a load of switches in) 4 curric servers 2 admin servers (all nessessary UPSs for these broardband gear 5 computers 3 of us 2 teachers in the otehr side of the devide is being used as a temp class room (in absolute dire desperate timetable emergencies = 4 periods a day) the wall in front of me our NEW OFFICE + SERVER ROOM is being built + CURRIC OFFICE. which is great but.... by building i mean banging drilling breaking banging and more drilling ... did i meantion the drilling???? oh well will be great when finished apart from the fact that no cupboards were speced also they have ignored our spec at desk heights we are gonna have 600 deep desks and 750 high (we requested 800 deep and 800 high) and and the air con due to the building work the power has been cut to the ac (located in the class ie the other side of the devide) so to summise WE ARE COOKING but are getitng things sorted

we installed a plasma screen in our new mfl block. the county wanted a hell of a lot of money. i got the caretaker to go out and buy the bits and bobs ure uncle it was up. (albeit i did drill through the insulation on a water pipe) through this hole i have a kettle power cord HDMI cable and audio cables. i drilled several holes and then used a dry chisel to make it a bit wider. second thought would it not be better to use a DVI to HDMI cable this would allow much smaller a hole to be needed.

our site is hosted in the school, i have the admin staff do their thing then save it in a share called PDFs this is a folder on the site, as long as the news letter has the same name bobs ure uncle also have a nifty bit of asp running all over the site which reads whats in a folder and displays this on teh page as links

apart from staff stations and one other room, all of our stations are RM ones, which we have no problem with at all (apart from abnormal high hw failure). the other room has the rm intelli desks which are useless apart from the fact the room has no ac the stations are loud and the desks are lacking in build quality.we are currently in the process of digging our selves out of this hold and finding a solution, dont put computers in enclosures it kills them in a few years

Howdy, i am trying to pull the user name of a kid from the station tehy loged on as. usually its just request.servervariables("LOGON_USER") but i am getting nothing bakc does any one know if this is todo with cc3 or do you recon its just me?

Morning all, i am after ideas on what features i can add to our school site, im open to the idea of online flash games but games in school is a bit of a no no. generaally any more exciting features u can think off also can you link to your sites so i can take inspiration of info you have included. i have had this site live for a while now just bored and thinking of features to add. totally argree about the flash page but its what the boss wanted, its virtually the same as the one on the old site exept i updated the look to the new site timeing is pretty similar, i h8 it tho. i have tried to make it as clean as possible but keeping the informatio we(the boss) wanted on the page

planing on getting a new job, the problem (catch 22 if you like) is i dont drive and am finding it harder and harder to afford lessons let alone insurance on the pay im on. really should have got this whole driving thing sorted years ago jus never had the time or money

I was doing that i did everything which was asked and more, then when i went for JE meeting with the boss he could not see all the extra we do (or any other support staff in the school) i would be happy to continue doing as they say, i enjoy the extra stuff i do (its the stuff in my JD which is boring) but i get paid bugger all. the JD as noted above pays more than twice what i get and when i pointed this out (not even asking to put on that just saying thats what i do) asking for a rise (so i could afford to actually live) he (the head) as good as laughed me out the door. i just feel s*it upon by them (had a call only monday asking me and the teckie to help the caretaker to move some benches - i did because he would have been on his own if not) ahhh well

Afternoon all, After a recent job evaluation throughout the Staffordshire Moorlands I have been wondering what other schools are doing about their websites i.e. do you build your own or go elsewhere, if so how much do you usually pay. If you build your own what is your job title, and most importantly is it in your job description? I am employed as an IT Technician and get paid peanuts, my new job description says nothing about web design or even, like in some of the others, manage update and maintain. I have completely build the school website (flash page) with a CMS and continue to add features. Also am currently working on an area for the Primary Pyramid schools. There is only one job description which gets close to what i do and that is 'Web Manager' which talks about Develop, manage and promote all of School’s/College’s internal and external websites. Design and implement the overall architecture of these websites. Create templates that staff will use to create content themselves; manage this content. Using server-side and client-side scripting, develop, update and manage online applications for the use of teachers, students, parents and the community. Which i do all of these and more. The only problem with the job descripton is (even though it doesnt say about line management) it talks about working within a web team (but there are no other jobs descriptions for other members of the team). I am at a loss and would appreciate you all letting me know what you school does web site wise and job title ... wise etc (also a lil critique on the site would be great)(flash page) Any help and advice would be appreciated

I did it my self, brought a 42" tele appropriate bracket drilled a BIG hole through the wall and have a networked PC the other side, from there i can run DVDs (its in MFL block and they like having crap films on in french and german. There was some cool RSS programs i have seen but i have the link at home if you would like me to search this out PM me

we do this all the time i have an account set for friends (who i help do stuff like upload photos to facebook and stuff) and a school account where we can install hotfixes and sims updates from home. SLT who provide support form our kit kicked up that we had it on the curric servers so we just installed it on we NAS Server and then RDP to the server we want...easy http://www.logmein.com

easy/cheap way is using a home vhs recorder and home dvd recorder (as in the type u use on ure tele) copy the vid then rip it on ure comp. or a video capture card (but not dazzle)

in know in cc3 you can have RM Tutor do this (and many other things) i believe it just stops signal to the screen. for non cc3 networks i guess that NetSupport (which powers RM Tutor 3 and 4) would do exactly the same
