  1. Bit basic but how about a suction handle for moving PC's around... People buy anything IShiney related - screen magnifier, "Painting Easel" Stand, Underwater case etc Its been done but quite expensive - low cost wireless temp monitor (server rooms, fridges etc).
  2. Great thanks all - I'll pass on the information!
  3. A member of staff's little boy has managed to somehow add their Ipad (personal one) to the washing pile and is now a very shiney "Shiney"! However the screen no longer works - they can hear it starting up and going in the background and the alarms still trigger for ebay etc however the screen itself is black. Does anyone know of any tricks or companies (pref in Wales) they can use to bring it back?
  4. That was my understanding - its just shows that I go from reading about copyright straight in a classroom of its principles in "action".
  5. I've got a question regarding this - mainly as I've just come across it in one of our labs!: Under these new laws can students remove audio /video from youtube to be edited and then used in coursework?
  6. "In essence, this exception just legalises the activities that teachers already do in terms of preparing their lessons / training sessions, and most standard practice is unlikely to change." Glad its not only us who know what some teachers are doing!
  7. Drop Lady Gaga Judas in there for more up to date controversy.....
  8. It was losing my religion that came to mind first. Others could be "Like a Virgin" Madge or "Arms Wide Open" Creed maybe...

  10. This ^. From what I've seen there are alot of advisers, suppliers, evangelists going to the head teacher confrences and peddling this stuff - usually throwing in the same handful of places as examples. Very little seems to come through to/from people who will actually be setting up, supporting and (generally) know about this stuff. My personal experience from talking to other Network managers is that Ipads are at best a small addition to the school IT, not a replacement of which seems to be is being pushed for by these people. We have nearly 100 ipads here and from sitting in on various lessons - they are mainly internet browsers.
  11. voted: No - No real reason waiting for Windows 9 However the real reason is funding preventing server upgrade from 2003 -> 2012 and I dont want to intergrate SVR2003 & Win8.1. Personally I want SVR2012 with Win7 short term future with a gradual migration to Win8/9 after looking at the management side more. No problem with Win8 - have a Win8.1 tab for wandering around with and like it.
  12. I get this from various members of staff and I reply in kind - its never been a problem. The only time I draw the line is when a member of staff sends a pupil to the computer man/IT Bloke/Technician etc. I find that worse than Firstname/surname/Title for some reason! The whole Sir/Madam, Mr/Miss/Ms/Mrs is kind of all the same to me and interchangeable (obviously where appropriate!)
  13. Can I throw my hat in the ring - these draws are always a good laugh!
  14. 6th form only here - some staff out (car park quiet) but most that I spoke to were planning on being in. Quiet day to actually get things done............
  15. AT Computers who did our initial setup offered to do the transactions for us +10% charge for using their credit. It was either this or use personal cards and claim back.
  16. If your running exchange you could create 2 groups in the Global Address List one for students and one for staff. Depending on which one they selected their search results would only show members of the group. You can set a filter on say department or another attribute.
  17. We've had it for about a month now - classroom management & internet abuse has been massively improved and it's given us as technical staff a bunch of new tools to save on the leg work. Quite expensive but its better than anything else I've seen.
  18. Dastardly & Mutley have gone down hill since their Wacky Racers hayday.....
  19. Apologies for bringing this back but I've just hit this problem. Creo is installed and works fine for me and staff - but doesnt run for students. We're running CC4 on Win7 and noticed that it was running scripts on starting. When the students click on the icon nothing happens! If anyone can give me a heads up on how to get this to work it would be much appreciated!
  20. Ours rules are as above Facebook personal Twitter and email, instagram etc a def no. School email is fine. We had a big push where suddenly staff wanted twitter accounts so I put forward some ideas for a new policy to include; only departmental accounts, SLT link has full access to the accounts, no following students, treat all tweets as official contact and that they were restricted so the department chooses their followers. The last point has now been pulled due to a member of staff moaning - not too happy as I think it needs more thought, but hey Im only the NM
  21. Probably at BETT - I know last year a few suppliers were very quiet over this period.
  22. Im waiting on delivery of the Dell Venue - the hardware is the same between the standard and pro editions. 8 pro is available from EES so I cant see why is cant be upgraded. I did see someone on here did the upgrade on a Win8 tab using a usb host adaptor on a different tab - but the process should be the same.
  23. ^This plus I have a few encrypted 2TB External harddrives for offsite piece of mind and use Shadow Copy for the regular "my work suddenly just disappeared!" reports from students. Generally - First line Shadowcopy, Second Line (Server room loss) Backup server from other side of side, Third line (Loss of whole site) Backup drive from offsite. Seen people using stuff like FreeNAS etc. I also had a chat with a supplier about using those little Nas boxes and having 2 synced one on site and one at home via VPN which was interesting.
  24. Nah he'll have to buy us all biscuits for his extreme luck and Christmas Spirit.
  25. remind them about that when they are next moaning about reports, homework, twilight sessions etc "Sorry your picked it - its the best one, I dont care" I do find it really thoughtless that they sent it to all staff - its a bit of a slap in the face for all the hardworking Associate staff.
