  1. Easy! I just don't have a 9-year-old
  2. Absolutely fine. I've effectively not had one for nigh a decade now lol. Even before that, I don't think I ever gave anybody my landline number. If you need me, you get my mobile.
  3. I've just jumped ship to Zen's 500MB full-fibre package (from their 80MB ADSL) now that it's available in my area, and I couldn't be happier. If it eases your mind, you can still have a landline over fibre. They offered it to me but I said no 'cause I've not even had an actual phone on the line for the past decade.
  4. Judging by the specs page, don't hold your breath. That's probably going to be 4GB of 2133, and the only 128GB storage they offer is a SATA M.2.
  5. The ones we were offered were HP 245 G8. 14 inch screen, AMD Athlon Silver 3050U (2.3-3.2GHz), 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD.
  6. We got a choice between HP laptops and Lenovo chromebooks. We went with the chromebooks.
  7. Yep, this. Our server room has a key and a code lock, and site team have both. Even though there's no fire alarm in there, if someone say, noticed smoke coming under the door, it would be a heck of a lot quicker to grab site team (and they'd probably be better equipped to handle it!) than it would be to come up 2 flights of stairs to grab us. The trick is making sure you have an agreement with facilities about who does and doesn't go in. We're having a fibre line installed and site team are taking care of it. They still called me when the guy showed up to let me know he was here and they'd let him in. Decent compromise IMO, but it does depend on the temperament of your colleagues.
  8. I got invited to book mine last week.. I still have no idea why it is that I'm getting bumped up the list, the text rather unenlighteningly read "As [i am] at increased risk of complications from COVID-19, [i am] able to book [my] COVID-19 booster vaccine." I can only imagine it's the winter asthma I used to have, but that hasn't seemed to bother me at all this year. Oh well. Not complaining.
  9. Binged the entire 1st season of Riot Games' Arcane yesterday. Probably worth a watch even if you don't play League of Legends. It's a story of haves-vs-have-nots, the struggle of those born into the have-nots, and the machinations of a seedy political underbelly, featuring all the drug-pushing and under-the-table mafia goodness that typically comes with. Well written, believable characters; some damn good action sequences; and an amazing sound design to boot. Definitely excited for S2, whenever that ends up being.
  10. I think I'm on the hunt for a wifi access point and a PoE injector, this year. Because I refuse to use powerline adaptors. I do still have one from Meraki I was given years ago, which is theoretically OpenWRT compatible, but it's like 5 or 6 years old so I have no idea how it'll hold up with recent networking issues that've been discovered (eg bufferbloat)
  11. Wait, hang on, am I missing something? Nothing there says that Visa put their rates above 1.5? So both Mastercard and Visa put up to 1.5, but now Visa are banned because they're charging high fees? But Mastercard charge the same fees? HMMMMMMM...
  12. Final copy of the reply I'm sending New bits in blue, as before.
  13. Re: tiktok, could you provide a bit more info about that? I'll be the first to admit I'm reasonably un-versed with the platform. Is this the thing about slapping teacher's bums? Fair point about the capitol riots, perhaps I should be mentioning the multitude of CSE cases that have used discord to groom children instead.. Edit: Email draft #2. Some light rewording, plus major changes highlighted in blue.
  14. Discord have finally responded to the email I sent on Thursday Somewhat insufficiently, I would say. Last I checked I didn't ask for the sales pitch, Winnie.. I've drafted a response but haven't sent it yet: I haven't actually sent it yet, as I feel like I'm being a bit too confrontational. Any thoughts?
  15. Let's not encourage this one. There's a time and a place for emoji, and it ain't "Naughty Pupil X has now been permanently excluded 🥳" or "Dear Parent/Carer, I am writing to you to inform you that we are now offering COVID 😷 vaccinations 💉 on Monday the 22nd"
  16. And Excel is not a database! Hides the current asset register
  17. As much as it probably sounds a bit rude to say, IME you get two buttons and that's your limit. You put a third in the mix and everyone starts getting confused
  18. For the love of $diety, if they don't already know, make sure you beat into their heads 'gently encourage' the use of Win+L Shortcuts in general, really, I see C, X, V and A have been mentioned already. Another big one would be control-clicking, or shift-arrows, for managing multiple objects. Email management might be a good one to go over, too, if you use a centralised email setup. Outlook folders, or GMail Labels for example.
  19. Watched that Saturday night. It was a very entertaining movie, but I did catch that, too. My main issue wasn't the pristine condition, it was that the shelf-life of petrol is only 6 months, and 12 for diesel. There is no way that car should've run.
  20. I mean, ignoring the typical Mav flair, the message has some basis in truth. That's why I hate vapes. It makes me consciously aware of how much air I'm breathing in that has just come out of somebody else's lungs.
  21. Bought some new trousers today, but they don't fit. I'm proper gutted. Massive waist
  22. Is this something anybody has ever done before? I'm looking to cut down on the amount of incoming junk and also, if I'm honest, get a bit of an idea of how our resources are being utilised outside of school-related use. I'm guessing my best bet would be to add a mailing rule that just duplicates any and all email to an inbox, then use GAM or PSGSuite to query that inbox, and do some scripting shenanigans from there..? Just wondering if anybody had done something similar (or even had a script they could throw at me, should my luckiest of stars align )
  23. I too was asked for a school name with a .sch.uk address, I assume it does that to collect info on hubs they haven't created yet?
  24. Both, obviously. I have sent the following email to Discord, via their support page: I'll drop any response I get into this thread.
  25. I think it's clear that people are using "student hub" and "servers advertised to users via the student hub" interchangeably. I don't think it's too much of a reach to understand this concept. Safeguarding is an incredibly complex and significant part of our jobs, and as such discussions are important to hash out. Please leave the pedantry at the door, it does nothing to further the discussion. To Discord's credit, they've at least amended the TOS for student hubs to include a ban on 'graphic or sexual content', as well as restrictions against bullying, harassment, controlled substances, regulated goods, or other unspecified 'toxic behaviour', but it looks like they're relying on manually flagged reports by end-users, which is pretty useless for the most part. I mean it's better than nothing, but it's still not good enough AFAIC. I wonder if there's a way to get in touch with Discord to blacklist your domain from student hubs? I'm going to hunt for a contact form and drop them a line.
