Pretty much you just need an install of Server 2008r2 with the terminal services role installed, you don't need hyper-v at all. The wizards should talk you through most of it and I think you get a 30 day trial before you have to add CALs. Once you have this setup the users just remote into the server and each session is separated out, ie multiple people can log in to it at once and not kick others off. If the rest of school is Windows 7 with appropriate profiles and GPOs when they log on most things should be just as they would be on a normal station. Just install the programs you need them to have access to and grab some CALs from an MS supplier and you should be good. The horrifying thing is that this is major progress from what it was, there are two different types of cage nuts in there, different screw pitch but same dimensions. There are only about half as many cage nuts as there are supposed to be. Till I got there the thing just hung open from the back hinge as it could not be shut. The loose cable on top is from a room upgrade where the contractor helpfully wired the classroom side but neglected to price terminating the other ends. They then went under and so there it sits waiting for more budget and time. There is another one which is my next challenge in that school, that one still hangs open and the cable was terminated that short that the rails could not be more than half way forward in the case otherwise they would not reach. I'm actually going to have to lower the cabinet on the wall to get enough slack to bring the rails forward so that anything other than patch panels can be mounted. This is the core cabinet for that school to so I'm going to have to pull the thing overnight unless I want to blackout the whole network for a day. Still, progress... better

Unless you have a reason for going full VDI it could be easier and cheaper to just use Server 2008 R2 and grab some TS CALs, you need to license each W7 instance and these take up more resources than just another user session on a copy of server. You can get around some of this by using Server 2012 as the host and memory dedupe along with template VHDs but overall easier to just use terminal services on server 2008.

Just did some network upgrades, the title sums it up: Here is what one cabinet looked like before: Didn't take an after as it was still a mess but at least both switches were actually mounted as opposed to just sitting in the cab. Had to take the whole cab apart though to move the rails forward which took 'some' time. Finally, gigabit throughout.

Depends on how much of an ear ache they expect to get when it turns out to be a dog, I'm sure most of SMT here could easily recite several reasons the current one fails as software. I don't apologise for bad software, I lay the blame where it belongs, with the developers. Blatant and stupid avoidable bugs and clearly stupid architectures are not something I'm taking any blame for.

I'm guessing it is like most SMS es with large amounts invested, if the installer actually worked gracefully they would loose out on all those jucy billable support hours and people would be able to get by without such heavy reliance on them, they may even have enough time when not fighting fires to look at other options. I have no idea if this is the case but seems to be an all to familiar model, most could make their software oss and still make a profit talking people through the latest crop of 'unintentional' bugs.

Sounds like it was running 'super g' or multichannel n for additional bandwidth, that kind of thing does not make it past radio certification, one of the few standards they are forced to conform to. I'd go draytek too, wouldn't touch net gear, dynalink, dlink, sure com or tp-link. The last two are basicly the same and can either be OK, rubbish or catch fire like a sony powered dell laptop and take everything else with them. Cisco can also be decent, the proper stuff and I have never had a Linksys catch fire.

Excuses, we all know it was redacted for the security of the handshake :-) Perhaps a 'double blind' greeting area where participants are separated by a wall and a chat room setup or more inventively where both are blindfolded. It could help keep that handshake secret too.

I've used the 501p and that's alright with 8 on it, not instant but ran all the stuff I threw at it. Was rubbish under 7 though, the 510 is newer and has a larger ssd. Touch screen was not super fantastic apparently, I found it fine though, keyboard was flimbsy though.

Windows phone 8, the Nokia 920 or even the 820, great phones that get stuff done with out all the hassle. Not as high a spec as some of the others CPU wise but it does not need it as it is really smooth and has longer battery life because of it. The OS does the handles all the linking together of everything from everywhere, calanders, contacts, birthdays, photos etc. all tied into the people. You don't need an app for every little thing, the raw is can Facebook message, tweet, summarise updates from all sorts of data sources. The apps for stuff like Facebook still exist if you want though, oh, and they aren't filled with wall to wall apps - you don't even need a custom ROM to manage it.
