Could you put it in a restricted security zone in IE that did not allow ActiveX plugins, this may force a fallback to html5 and be deployable in GPO.

1080p IPS, there goes the battery life, the poorly coloured postage stamps on the previous ones were at least a bit more energy efficient, more pixels to push round means more drain on the battery. Looks like the Dell Bingbook we got a hold of, much nicer but heavier and less runtime than the little equivalent. -
Without anyone being able say definitively whether it is or is not an issue I don't think it is right to supress a conversation about reinstalling the version of Windows on your device you are licenced for in the first place. If you can provide more proof of this than a feeling that it might be probably against the terms then all good. Without certainty it's the equivalent of those spammed DMCA copy write takedown notices the music industry is partial to sending to anyone hosting an audio file that strings more than three notes together and don't actually check if they need to. I would be looking at using the available ISOs from other sources though rather than VL, I don't think VL even has the OEM versions available anyway. As far as I remember the key was the important thing anyway, the media was just disposable which is how they got away with not shipping them in the first place.

Perhaps just try recovering the key and use that for the download? How To Retrieve Windows 8 OEM Product Key From BIOS | Next of Windows

Yea, I mean the whole policy unfortunately not just the printer setting.

GPP corrupts in a heartbeat, have you tried recreating it from scratch?

Anything in the event log? this sounds like the hub transport role playing up. This can happen if it has picked up the wrong certificate or it has expired. The space thing is also a good thing to look at. -
So with MDT, a USB NIC with drivers you can inject and MDT you can manage the ASUS ones, just go to the Lightouch.vbs file in the scripts directory of your MDT from the live OS and then run through as normal, no PXE but doable. Be sure to patch your MDT though and check it is working alright on one in your deployment to make sure. Hopefully now it will show in the search engines

Haven't done it yet, end of the year unfortunately, the school accounts are overseen by an onsite person and someone from EdTech financial services, the Edtech people have been looking into it and setting up templates etc. so hopefully it will be smooth. It's actually modern API model means that as well as tying into the bank there is a tie in to etap as well so just like the move from MUSAC CM, stuff that used to take half a day can probably be done in a single click. After moving the SMS stuff we had people able to take up new/extra roles as a lot of the non-automated mindless data processing was reduced to seconds.
-
You are right about the MedTech stuff being entrenched, it is far superior to stuff like MUSAC but all their documentation is tied up behind their own support provider service. I have seen this documentation - all be it a while ago - and it is very good but what they give out is just enough to get you into trouble for their support team to solve. I know what you mean about MUSAC, finally got rid of it at one school for etap and the accounts are being replaced at the end of the year by Xero. Did not stop MUSAC billing us for an extra year of CM/SM that we never used thanks to their six months before billing practice. I have managed to get all the MUSAC junk working on 64 bit though, the system files installer does get angry but just on one file, it pops a dialogue box in the background and when you ok it the install continues. Ended up adding their system files to our base image for Vista then 7 then 8 to get around it. Have been running CM/SM/AB from a 64bit 2k8 server for about 6 years as remoteApps (transparent RDP for only the app window) so that they could use it on whatever wherever without it doing its usual trick of the access DBs choking on the network. I still want rid of it in the one school it still has a foothold in, it is bad, their next web version is even worse.

Interesting thread which I missed entirely Have not had to deal with it in a school but have dealt with it at a clinic, I would probably be looking at running it under a VM with the medtech admin being only a local admin on that machine if domain joined or better but more complicated, a separate domain with a one way trust so that you could keep them away from anything important on your network but users could still access it without too much hassle. It depends on how far you wanted to go though, I know I get irritable when software or service vendor x demands admin credentials, especially certain things like the MUSAC service that 'requires' domain admin for their crashy unpredictable software.

Imaging The Atom and other Mysteries
SYNACK posted a blog entry in Ramblings from the Restaurant at the Ragged Edge of Reason
The new quad core Atom CPUs are great for 1:1 devices, long battery life, support everything and not too expensive, problem is imaging them. The issue with MDT imaging is that they are detected correctly as 64 bit architecture and so copy 64 bit EFI. This should work fine but most of the vendors have crippled the EFI implementations to only support 32 bit EFI. Some tablets support PXE with a USB NIC like the Acer Aspire Switch 10, others like the ASUS T100 don't. Either way if you are trying to use MDT it will happily fill them with un-bootable EFI code. Turns out that the detection algorythm used by MDT is largely WMI and as such, you can just tweak it to look for the offending processor type and switch to 32 bit instead. After a good hour in the company of notepad I found this: On line 515 of ZTIGather.wsf replace all of case 9 with this ' Compensate for bad EFI on atom units. WMI ProcessorId BFEBFBFF00030678 Case 9 If objInstance.Caption = "x64 Family 6 Model 55 Stepping 8" then sCapableArchitecture = "X86" bSupportsX86 = true bSupportsX64 = false Else sCapableArchitecture = "AMD64 X64 X86" bSupportsX86 = true bSupportsX64 = true End If In our implementation this seems to have worked nicely, hopefully it saves someone else some frustration. -
Our tale starts with Windows Multipoint Server 2012 and it's inability to cope with USB3, after being turned away from many a Microsoft door we had enough and gave up on MPS 2012 again. Our lovely new hardware would just have to suffer with MPS 2011. MPS 2011 is not easy either with it faining no knowledge of many devices when confronted with their drivers, these however were usually just a case of pointing device manager in the right direction. Now onto the topic, the Intel® Ethernet Connection I218-LM a device that will work happily under Windows 7 or 8 but thanks to intel's drivers would not even show up as an option on a Multipoint server. I know, it's not exactly in the HAL but why not just remove the driver restrictions and let people use it if they want to? So, after an hour of messing that's what I did: Download the latest drivers for the Intel® Ethernet Connection I218-LM for Windows 7 and extract them. Find the \Intel\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62 folder Edit the e1d62x64.inf file in notepad Remove this: ,\ PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153B from the ControlFlags section to just leave this: [ControlFlags] ExcludeFromSelect = \ PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A Now find your adapter in device manager, update the driver and tell it to brows computer, then select a driver from a list Select network adapter then have disk... navigate to your \Intel\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62 and hit ok Scroll down to the bottom and you should now see I218-LM at the bottom of the list, it will complain about being possibly the wrong driver and unsigned but it should work. In conclusion, I truly dislike intel's driver department, they seem to take great pains to cause as much rubbish as possible with their drivers.

There was an original!? Now I need to track that down -
Just to be a pedant on your available hardware. Again agree with the Seagate assessment, even their Enterprise RAID sata drives are shocking, had three fail with weird SMART errors inside a year and a half.
-
Seagate has gone down hill and are now rubbish, I have never found an Adaptec RAID I am happy with, HP rebrands and LSI rebrands in IBM seem to do an all right job but have never had good luck with adaptec. Perhaps a different and beefier RAID controller with more memory, RAID 10 should not slow down that much with a single dropped drive. Had RAID 5 sets fail one drive and keep going at almost full speed with the HP Smart Array stuff.

@EduTech Ever tried getting information about MultiPoint server, no one anywhere knows what it is let alone where to direct you apart from away from them. Even the Facebook group will just direct you to the generic support page. Hate to tell you this but as far as I can tell MS simply does not support certain products especially in markets they don't seem to care about, any information is a misdirect in the hopes you'll go away. USB3 is so new anyway, why would you support it at all.
-
Good to hear that it is a red hearing. KMS is totally out of control though, have had two sites where KMS has completely broken down when both Windows 7 and 8.1 are being activated by KMS. Had no end of issues and fully pushed the site to 8.1 and 2013 to get away from it.
-
OMG, I hope that is not true, have you tried the force reactivation scripts, something like this http://www.edugeek.net/forums/office-software/74238-solution-kms-activation-imaging-plus-error-0xc004f038.html

The layout looks a tad messed in the standard blue theme, the boxes down the side for links and some of the formatting is missing, perhaps a CDN CSS issue with the move? Would upload images but can't as the upload files bit is stuffed. IE11, firefox just gets a 500 error.

How about: NotWebkit - which is basically every other browser now, just another monoculture that the devs are jumping on, another option would be Unsupported - which it is now as all the precious crayon toating web 'designers' only dev for webkit. IE has its problems but it is reasonable and actually runs without causing a stack of problems on a managed network unlike certain other alternatives. We have already seen chrome split off its webkit implementation due to all the cruft but it will probably have to maintain a heavy compatibility layer to deal with all the webkit specific behaviour. Give it a couple of years and it will be guilty of all the same things people go off about Windows and IE for due to having to support the behaviour and quirks of all the older webkit engines as well as any new features.

TBH the best way is changing the management structure so the users don't end up installing the internet one banner ad at a time on their systems. If you must look at it try adding a group of team leaders that are local admins and pushed out by the special security groups in GPO that staff take their laptops to in order to get authentication to install stuff. That way they at least need to justify their actions to someone.

Blerk, Blerk, Sorry, that's just an autonomic response from dealing with the 1248T series till they drove me nuts. It does not have to be the switch, but I'd check jumbo packets and give it a powercycle, also check the drivers on both ends for jumbo packets and try it without TCP offload, bad Intel drivers have caused me no end of grief on this. Did eventually get some that worked with hyper-V and coped with high packet throughput. TCP window scaling could also cause issues Receive Window Auto-Tuning on Vista. - Windows Core Networking - Site Home - MSDN Blogs this tech is still about and can still trip older routers and firmware to cause issues, I lost count of the numbers of WAPs running slightly outdated network stacks that shot themselves thanks to this one.
