Huh, do you mean the domain restore password? If it it just the domain admin one you should just be able to change it and it will replicate out through ad. If you have services using it you should setup a separate service account for them and you should have separate admin accounts anyway for tracking, also the core admin account has a few extra rights that you really don't want to have accessible for everyday administrating.

Its also full of viruses thanks to ad banners, most teachers don't care, anything that saves them a little work is beyond reproach in their opinion.

USB2 only goes up to something like 300Mbit/s effective speed if dedicated and at full ball ( Universal Serial Bus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) a Gig adapter would be shedding at the very least 70% of it's performance so it makes it uneconomical to add in gig gear and power consumption if you are not really getting that much out of it. The keyboard must have another battery in it which is good but it is all down to what you need. If the tablet factor is not going to work well it may be cheaper to get standard laptops, they have a bunch less connectors to go wrong and less stuff (keyboards) to get lost etc.

I've just pushed it out, our stations have Firefox as well and most of our stuff works. If we don't start using it the buggy code will never be fixed. The spellcheck alone is worth the upgrade.

It may have more to do with the specs than the ports, the backplanes on 52 port ones is probably much faster than the 24 port one, also the two switch suggestions is good if they have a really fast stacking interface. No stacking interface and you'll end up wasting lots of ports on linking the two together with decent bandwidth. Also, as above you will end up burning a stack load of ports on new gear and putting core stuff on the end of an interconnect with other switches will slow stuff down.

I walked out after six months, started with a rubbish budget and thought that the school could be convinced/sanitised into actually giving ICT the time of day. Turned out there were deeper problems which there was no way I could resolve. A year or so later the management and senior staff were ripped out and replaced by much more professional staff. I did have the opportunity to go back and start fixing their ICT with the new management but my first experience was so sour that I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Sorry, was on a junky Nexus 7 which has a keyboard about as responsive as a coma patient. 14 was 14 hours of battery life on the current Atom based ones with the extended keyboard battery. CPU fan was the fact that the iSeries of CPUs still generate too much heat to be passively cooled so need a vent and a fan, adding a spinning part, noise and discomfort if using as a tablet. This look like nice little units but I'm guessing 3-5hours battery life max and almost certain that it will have a cpu fan and vent of some kind, all of the iSeries ones I have seen have. If they look like they will work for you all good, just be sure to check one out first to see what they have sacrificed for the form factor. EDIT: I may be wrong about the fan, I just have not paid as much attention to the ISeries stuff in that form factor as the CPUs are still power hogs for that size which means generally a heavy thick tablet or a rubbish battery life.

Unfourtunaly I don't know of any of the new ones with ethernet, they will also run rubbish on 7 as it s nowhere near as optimised as 8. I'd look at using 8 or skiping this gen and waiting for the new 22nm atom for performance. Actually the i5 based ones might do it but you get 3h battery instead of 14 and a CPU fan

This is what happens when a marketing department gets too much power in an organisation because their crystal ball said that tablets were the only future or at least that's what it said in the magazines they read. I'm sure the developers wanted it but the marketing goal of the company was different. Hopefully they have realised what a rubbish idea that was now.

eep, Acer, another avoid in general, their build quality is still massively variable and while they may against all odds pull off a success every so often their proportion of abject fail is still something to be concerned about.

What kind of cameras or dvr? 32bit apps should work fine on 64 bit, it may be a codec problem.

Just got a W8 tablet and tried again, bang, worked with imp, exchange 2003 and 2010.

plus one, Offline files in Vista, 7 and 8 are way better. It's been forever but there may be an option in GPO for XP to not perform a full sync each time. We had users running alright with 80GB of files in this configuration but the offline file sync did take a while in the background. With 7 I think the biggest I've come accross is 200GB via offline files.

The link reset could have caused a long enough drop in the link to flush the address tables, it is more a case of how many devices are on your network total as switches keep a list of how to get to a MAC address and which port. Its not just computers but printers, other switches, wireless devices. It is possible that the address table on those was quite small and so it was exceeded and caused the lockups. If this is the case it will happen again and your only solution would be to make crazy small VLANs with the core switch to limit the amount of MAC addressed it is exposed to. That is not a good plan however, if it reoccours just take them back and get some bigger and better ones.

Turns out that if you have had the homepage set in your unattend.xml for IE it will break if used on an IE10 image as that component no longer exists. As I usually just update the wim and drop it in this caught me out. Now having to remove the offending line and reimage a whole lab again. Oops.

Ummm, that can have unexpected consequences. I am reminded of something that happened near my old Intermediate school, there were LOTS of seagulls there to and someone decided the bread and baking soda method might drive them away. Not sure if they overdid it with the soda or added another ingredient. Anyhow one day it looked like a scene from resident evil with dead seagulls falling from the sky and roofs. There was a hell of a mess, a hell of a clean-up and a rather serious investigation after that. Less seagulls though and only a few emotionally scared students.

You can get alarms that take full IP modules, stuff like this DSC PowerSeries Control Panel PC1616 - PC1616 with DSC IP Communicator TL250 - Other Alarm Systems at which point you can moniter sensors, set and unset the alarm, trigger voltage out relays for stuff like opening garage doors and doors that have voltage triggered releases. If you wired it correctly you could even use it to trigger home automation stuff that took a voltage input. It all depends on what you want to do with it.
