Hi All, We have come in this morning to a number of workstations blue screening as the user logs in, eventually they get logged in but after a few minutes the workstation bluescreens again, Checking the event logs and nothing, Before I start delving through the Crash Dump files has anyone had this happen at their school recently and what was the outcome. Could it be Malware of some sort? Just seems strange Thanks in advance

@maxrebo Our Hyper-V hosts are Dell R710s with 196GB RAM in each with 2 x 15k SAS drives mirrored and connected via 2 x GB switches to 2 x Synology units with with 4 x 500GB SSDs and 8 x 4TB WD Reds units are HA configured and backups are to another Synology unit which backs up to the cloud. We have 20 VMs running various Services and they have been solid. Storage on the 2 HA configured Synology units is 24TB RAID 6 Storage on the Backup Synology with 12 x 4TB WD Reds is 32TB, more storage could be added at anytime with a secondary unit which would just plug in. Never looked back as @localzuk has mentioned SANs are no longer cost viable in these cost cutting days.

@jmak What's it like if you use Windows "Edge" browser?

I would think Easter is the ideal time for us to move onto this version from 16.02, like the new look and the mobile printing looks cool which will fit in nicely with our moves into 1:1 devices and printing from the cloud will make this heaps better.

@zhinkler Don't forget also the added aftercare service which is where a great deal of your time will be spent as the company will expect an SLA I would presume? £50 per hour and also a call out fee to cover your costs as they may expect you to drop everything and commit to them personally, KPI's need to be sorted first between you as part of the SLA which I would have them read and sign just to cover yourself. Doing stuff for friends or friends of the family no matter what the relationship can sometimes turn very sour quickly so I would advise you go into this with a business head and keep everything professional so everyone understands the contract.

We didn't pay this, I came to an understanding with our SLT and they paid me for the job via overtime plus TOIL, job only took less than a couple of minutes as VM on our Hyper-V platform.

We had a quote from CRB to build a physical member server and configure for our Biometrics system and they were going to charge £4k! Don't undersell yourself charge the going rates which is around £500 to £1000 per day £50 per hour I would charge which is less than what most IT companies charge these days

We use 4Matrix here and its been so stable and usable for all the Teaching staff, updates automatically and never had to touch it for 2 years once I installed the Server and deployed the application to all the 90 Teacher workstations, our Data manager just loves it. Have heard mixed reports that SISRA is quite complex for KS3 and KS4 but for KS5 seems ok as for Questa ive no idea.

@FN-GM Why not use this instead of a large computer? Introducing the Intel® Compute Stick We have used them for our Digital signage and they work a treat!

@ptotham Why are you trying to do this using a script when there is a perfectly good tool in the RMMC for allocating printers? Install the printer on your print server as a local printer, give it a static IP then when it is installed with the proper drivers share it and wait for it to come into the console then attach it to the computer or room OU and voila! job done. If you use printer credits then its a couple of minutes wait until you can apply credit details. So easy and it works so well, its what the console has been designed to do

@synaesthesia I remember setting up a SAN as 4 iscsi targets with the volumes already configured on the SAN and then mapping those volumes as drives on the RM DC as long as you use the Microsoft iscsi protocols then thats all you should have to do, then move the existing shares from one mapped drive to another using a third party software which will take all the shares plus access rights with it. Long time ago bud memory is not what it used to be, you could also ask @Sylv3r as he may also have done something similar, I have no documentation as it was many years ago.
