We do what you do. On our intranet, (Joomla based) we have the https://www.jevents.net/ plugin, which is an excellent calendar but they would rather use the rubbish pdf route 'cus they can use excel to maintain the calendar which they see as being more user friendly. Basically the person who maintains the calendar can't be a***d to learn a better system.

Our students have Hisense Sero Pro 8 which are generic Android tablets. When one student goes onto Moodle and downloads specific pdfs, she gets an error message saying the pdf can't be downloaded. Other pdfs on the same page download and open fine. I had her try an identical tablet and the first load of pdfs were also fine. I suggested she try a factory reset and see if that cures the problem. I'm completely baffled.

Just after I moved into the area 20 years ago, I was in the back garden and there was a loud bang. I saw this large mushroom cloud rising over the factory and I though "That doesn't look quite right." It's been there since 1850 and they make some nasty stuff like analine, white phosphorus, acids, etc. They hold annual public presentations to tell us how safe everything is. They also used to post a calendar through the letterbox every year (to keep us locals onside) but they didn't do it this year. Times must be hard.

We have 5 display boxes on our intranet (the attached file shows the original layout with four boxes) which are updated by several people. They edit a .doc file, stored on a shared area, save it back and then save it again as "web page filtered" to the same shared area. These htmls are displayed on the intranet. Even with this simple scheme they get it wrong; saving the .doc to their home folder is a favourite. We take a firm stand on this - if a user overwrites someones changes on the intranet because the latest version of the .doc file wasn't in the shared area - tough. There are probably better ways of doing this, but we didn't want our staff to get into the mysteries if Joomla!, especially document check out/check in.

I saw this mentioned on BBC breakfast today Digital safe offers solution to password thefts - BBC News So what am I missing? It says "Silicon Safe has designed a special box - a piece of hardware which stores passwords separate to the network." It also says "There is no conventional interface with the back-end systems although it does allow web servers to send login credentials to the system in order to authenticate passwords."
