Exactly the same thing happened when Australia first introduced the polymer bank notes; the technology was developed by the Reserve Bank of Australia. People where used to paper money and felt that the polymer notes was quite real money. A group who were trying to prevent the change said that the notes were rubbish because they shrunk when put in the mircrowave. Who puts their money in a microwave?? They were out $10 when they did. Anyway, since then (1988) all notes in Australia are polymer and they work just fine. When I'm home, I can take one into a pub, give it to the person behind the bar and they give me a nice cold beer in exchange.

Hesk - logging all jobs. Outlook - email requests - we get emailed by Hesk as tickets come in. Any staff that email us directly, have a ticket raised by us. Any staff that phone us up to try to jump the queue, have a ticket raised and set to low priority. We also use Outlook for the calendar. Wiki - used to record long term projects and build the holiday task list. A notepad and pencil - what I use to keep track of todays jobs. One of the others in the team uses a OpenOffice document, another Wiki-On-A-Stick - these methods are too high tech for me...

A lot of really old programs Land of the Giants, The Beverly Hillbillies, Dragnet, Annie Oakley, and The Cisco Kid. The first is currently showing daily on the Horror Channel and the rest nightly on Big Centre TV - keeping up with them is a challege. They are all series I watched when I was growing up. Gail Davis was an early crush - the first was Irish McCalla; I wish they would show some of her TV programs. I'm also watching The X Files nightly on Spike. What with all this and doing ballet classes and gym, I don't have much spare time at the mo. I was watching Burn Notice on DVD, but that will have to wait until Land of the Giants finishes.

Did anybody watch? I thought it was very funny, especially the line "I don't do the Big Bang". They are all looking a lot older and fatter - Craig Charles said that in a recent interview. Also, is anybody watching "Land Of The Giants" on the Horror Channel. It was never my favourite Irwin Allen series, but it's a lot better than I remember.

We have one. It is intended to be a source of IT information, such as network status, on-going problem status, latest news etc. We haven't tweeted since 19th Feb 2015, and we've had loads of problems. How the 43 followers are supposed to keep up with events is a mystery!

At the first school I was at, SMT had an electrician cable two rooms. He installed two patch panels in the cab but when he'd finished one classroom, he carried on with the second one on the same patch panel. He also didn't label any of the points, one room went around the other way to the first and neither started in a logical place, such as by the door. Here we get proper cabling people in and they do a brill job - labelled, tested and we get certificates to say so. Costs more but worth it.

Moodle here and SMT wield the big stick and make staff use it. OK, so the teachers don't use it well (basically it's a glorified shared drive) but with a big push to having all students on mobile devices, that will have to change. Good points about Moodle - it's free, there are a huge number of sites, the Moodle forums are excellent for support, there are a zillion plugins to extend it, JISC offer free staff training, students are liable to use it if they do to university. Bad points - upgrades are cumbersome, but we only do it once a year, so it's really all that bad, staff expect us to know all the ins and outs of it, and there is loads of stuff involving students that we haven't got a clue about. We point them as JISC.

A combination of repairing the disk permissions and setting the proxies with the networksetup command as root means they now stay set (well so far!)

There was a bloke in Adelaide who had an ex-police bike with "Polite" written on the fairing. He got plenty of room on the road. You are correct about what car or bike your on. When I was on my green and yellow step-through, I was given no room. If I was on the blue Ducati, lots of room. If I was on the Yammy SR500, with the worlds loudest exhaust, cars would pull over. If I was on the sidecar, the cars would almost park up.

We're got two Macs which are being a right pain. Go into System Settings > Network , select Advanced and key in the proxy settings. Save them, go back in and the proxies have gone. I assume one of the plist files has the wrong perms, but I can't see anything obviously wrong. Any ideas? (Apart from chucking them in the bin!)
