Website - letters to parents - how do you display (joomla)
unixman_again replied to clm's topic in Coding
You could use the attached sindex.php script to list the contents of a directory of pdfs. We do this for the governors papers which are lobbed into a directory. The users see a list of files and they have to download and read them. Personally, I think this is messy, but we do it for stuff that grows. I've attached the script, 'cus the site where I downloaded it has been hijacked. A better solution is to manually create a list of items and use either PDF Embed or ARI Docs Viewer. ARI Docs has more features but relies on the google docs engine and sometimes runs into band with problems. We do this for static items such as policies. The advantage is that the pdf is viewed in the browser rather than being downloaded. sindex.zip -
The Persuaders - True Entertainment are currently showing two episodes weeknights, which means they will run out very soon. Mission Impossible - currently on CBS Action nightly. I have them all on DVD but I'm watching from on broadcast. Last night, Pick started showing Farscape which I watched first time around, until Virginia Hey was written out. I still think it's basically The Muppets in space.

I always say S-Q-L never, ever sequel. When I worked on the Pick Operating System, we had T-C-L (Terminal Control Language). The 'Muricans said Tickle, which really annoyed me, especially as Dick Pick said T-C-L and I figure he should know. BTW, I rarely hear P-I-N - it's always pin number.

Anybody here know IPA? (It's not a beer BTW.) Pronunciations are almost impossible to articulate without IPA.

I have a Radio Shack multimeter which I bought from Tandy in about 1985. It's still using the original Tandy battery too!

Have every one chuck their mobile phones in the bin. Honestly, you don't need a mobile phone.

Personally, I would do something like if (time() > strtotime("09:05") && time() <= strtotime("10:05")) {echo "Period 1";} etc You will most likely warnings about TZ but you can either turn off warnings or include date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London');

Avoid the Ricoh Pro c5100s Colour - we've had nothing but trouble with ours. It almost has it's own engineer. If you want to print landscape card, well you can't. Lots of paper jams too and it used loads of waste toner bottles. The Sharp MX2614 Colour and Sharp MX6240 Colour are brill - easy to look after. Almost never goes wrong. In reprographics we have Sharp MXM1204's and the lady who runs them says they are better than the HPs we had before, although the HPs were getting end of life.

We all enjoy the slow-mo guys vids on youtube, but to do your own, you need very expensive gear. You can do it with an iPhone or similar, but the resolution is carp. Here's a review of a new semi-affordable camera I found on the Slingshot Channel.

Maybe Ifranview - it will scan subdirs and resize files within based on criteria and you drive it from the command line.

Is there an easy and cheap method (free would be nice) to record in a central location, the logon time, logoff time and user id of networked W10 PCs?

I've had an off and on again relationship with yoga for years. I find some of the positions awkward and some just make me plain ill, esp holding downward dog. I've tried many styles - Iyengar, Hatha, Ashtanga, etc. Here's a new one that I'm very keen to give a go Beer yoga

Is dropbox allowed for student to access
unixman_again replied to genesis's topic in Learning Network Manager
We too have OneDrive as part of O365 but getting staff to use it is difficult - they've heard of Dropbox so that's what they use. Students use OneDrive more but there is a hidden problem. When they send work to a teacher, often the teacher can't access it because the student has shared it as a link rather than a copy. The graphics teachers (Macs) insist Dropbox is the way to go. I don't know how well OneDrive works in Safari or the Mac version of Chrome, which we have on the graphics Macs. We don't mind students using Dropbox but we would rather they used the web interface rather than the app. The app seems to cripple the network and it makes the Mac run very slow too. -
Not cheap, but maybe something like this https://www.epson.co.uk/verticals/interactive-projectors/products - an interactive whiteboard without the board - you just need a wall.

I logged into my yahoo email today and saw this Is this a last hurrah before they change the name. What will happen to my email address, which I've had since 1999? Presumably eventually it will become [email protected]?

Thirty years ago, I wrecked my lower back lifting a 5kg modem out of a box. It eventually got better and generally doesn't cause me problems, but every so often it comes back to remind me it's still there. It is always something innocuous that sets it off - I'll deadlift 100kgs in the gym without problem, but it has gone putting on my shoes, putting on my jumper and picking up a pillow off the floor. The only time that I've injured my back in the gym, is moving a 5kg plate off a Smith machine bar, onto the plate storage pegs. When it happens, it lasts a couple of days and then all is well. It went again on 21st Dec - I wasn't doing anything, just standing in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil. There are still twinges but it is getting better thanks to exercise. When it first went, I was told to do the following : cat stretches lie on my back with the knees up and let them fall to the side, left and right lie on stomach and lift the legs off the ground, either individually, or together pelvic tilts – stand and basically gently hump your imaginary friend superman - on all fours, stretch alternate legs and arms together, eg left leg and right arm These are great because you don't need any equipment and I can do them while watching TV. My friend the phsyio, suggested another, which is damn impossible. On the dipping bars, prop yourself up on straight arms. Now try and lift your bum as high as possible. Basically you are trying to hinge from the waist but in reverse. I can get a small amount of movement but not a great deal. The good news is that I can feel that I've worked muscles in the lower back that haven't been worked correctly for ages (if ever). It really does seem to be working. The shouty Jeff Cavaliere does the exercise in this video 3:50 to 4:20 - I can't get anywhere near the range of motion that he does - maybe it will come over time.
