I've just installed Lineage 15.1 on my OnePlus 2. Everything is working apart from Android Auto which won't start with the error message: "Something Went Wrong - Google Play Services doesn't seem to be working right now" All other Google apps are working so I'm trying to work out whether it's a red herring. I was wondering about installing a different version of Google Play Services from APK mirror, but I'm unsure of the update process. Do you just download the file and install it out do you have to uninstall the old version first? I was previously running a different Android 8.1 ROM, and Android Auto ran fine, but the phone kept overheating and shutting down when using GPS.

It wasn't my recommendation.... Just trying to make it work. I tested and demo'd both and I'm still using Google Drive, Docs and File Stream for my work [emoji57]

Thanks. That's essentially how ours is set up, but it's been pretty unpopular. I think it's change that's the problem rather than being fundamentally wrong. We also have Teams, which I do think is rubbish.... Fine if you only open or work in MS Office files, but unintuitive for anything else. I am thinking of putting together a webpage with direct links to SharePoint libraries, but I'd have to set up a variation for each combination of user rights so that people only see the folders they have access to. It's what Teams should do, but it's awful to use.

I have a similar ambition. Slightly off topic: how do you present the O365 SharePoint to users? Do they still access files/folders through Explorer? And if so, do they choose which ones to sync (on each machine they use using FoD) or do you map them somehow?

Uber Pool is pretty successful where it runs. (Not a fan of their business practices, but their service model is great.) I only know of one person who lives in our village who goes to a similar place of work at the same time as me. However about a third of the cars that drive past my house go within a five minute walk of where I work (it's not a busy road/route so probably only one or two or minute) based on following them up the road and heading the same way until the last roundabout before the school. I quite often see the same cars on my way to work, but wouldn't be able to commit to meeting the same person every day. I would quite easily be able to share with one of the people passing though.

If you don't need interactivity, you don't need to spend anything like £2.5k. The purchase cost would be much closer and the reduced power consumption, lack of need to clean filters, lack of need to replace bulbs etc will help to bring TCO even closer. When you add in reduced deterioration in image quality as the bulb ages, you might start to have a case.

The two checks we have for email addresses now are: 1) From the admissions team (or ATF for us) - if the email on there is incorrect, the offer of a place at the school wouldn't have reached the parent. 2) On our parents evening booking system. You can either validate against it, in which case the parent wouldn't be able to book an appointment and would hopefully get in touch, or you can have them fill it in, in which case you get a copy of it in a report.

I did this and got the same result - I assumed it was my incompetence. Solution: replace Xbox It took too much of my life failing to fix it. I like fixing the things that other folk leave around. I hate failure.

Can you do anything similar with Azure AD? We have a small number of staff from our partner junior school working in our school and I'd like to give them access to some network resources using the laptops owned by the other school. Both schools already use Azure AD.

We have an understanding that writing jobs down in anything that could be construed as a list is a sure fire way to guarantee it doesn't get done. It took a few years to get there, but I'm very rarely left a list any more [emoji16] There's an app for that [emoji6] .

Unfortunately not an option for us. Smart Boards in every class and no subscription to a later version. I'll have to do more testing on different browsers to see if we can make do without Chrome.

On the day that Uber drivers go on strike, they sent out an update to their general terms (their capitalisation): So we can no longer take an Uber - we just have a licence to use an app that by some remote stroke of luck happens to put us in touch with someone driving a car with a big Uber sticker on the side.

Since installing Windows 10 1803 on the PCs connected to the Smartboards in the classrooms, we're getting compatibility issues with some websites in some browsers. The websites display correctly, but don't respond to touch. Our default browser is Chrome, as we've found that has best compatibility overall, but some websites work in IE only. The teachers are pretty good at testing websites before lessons to make sure that they're not blocked etc, but don't always get an easy opportunity to try in the classroom without children present. I've said that this is random and that there's not much I can do to predict or prevent, but thought I'd ask in case there is a more general fix. TBH of parents evening is next week and you haven't got anything else in place is go for paper forms at this point. To test and deploy to parents is pushing it. Maybe even get pupils to go around and use sign up sheets. For the record, I'm a big fan of online booking systems both as an administrator and a parent. If you ask parents whether anything has changed, they'll almost always say no. Best to ask for everything from scratch.

I'm thinking of buying a steering wheel controller for my son's birthday. He plays Forza and Forza Horizons, so not proper simulators (yet). Is it worth buying one of the cheap wheels or is the realistic entry point the Logitech 920 at around £200? It's supposed to be a bit of fun and I don't want to spend that much.

We're a maintained school and there's no way it would be sustainable to employ sufficient staff to run HR properly. We're technically employed by the LA, but all of our HR is outsourced to a third party supplier and as far as I can tell, most of the local primaries do the same. When it's a third party, it's possibly easier to see that they're only a processor. The data is collected/created by the school. Although technically employed by the LA, they don't interview, recruit, set salaries or job descriptions or run payroll. This would be the same if administration of payroll etc was outsourced to any provider, including the LA.

Supplementary query: What are people doing about retaining photos for marketing purposes beyond when pupils leave? Obviously for most legal bases for photos, we're not using consent and it expires when they leave. However for marketing, we're likely to want to keep them for promoting future events.

I can't take credit for the census - we have a new and very methodical and organised office administrator. They've now worked in a school for five whole weeks! Thanks for the links - looks like we'll have to use SIMS. Just seems a shame when we already have the information recorded in a system which we use for all other personnel functions.
