I think the error on install is a red herring. Looking at the logs I've worked out that the error comes from VC 2010 x86 redistributable. If I download and attempt to install that manually, I get an error saying "A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

Yep......but over 12GB free on drive and I've tried installing logged in as the server local admin and the domain admin with no luck!

Hi All, We have recently upgraded our Sibelius seats to the latest ultimate version. When attempting to install the license server (Windows Server Standard 2016 1607), I get an error half way through (1152: Error extracting to the temporary location). The installer continues and the license server installs, but it doesn't work properly. When I attempt to add our license by clicking the 'manage licenses' button nothing happens - it should take me to the license manager control panel so I can add our license, but it doesn't. Presumably the license manager control panel isn't been installed due to the error. I've used FolderChangesView to attempt to see where it is extracting to, and I see a folder c:\ however it appears and disappears faster than I can get to it. I've opened the main installer .exe with 7-zip and resource hacker however I can't find anything other than the main .msi - and if I run that it gives me an error about dependencies being required. I've logged a call with Avid however they're a bit slow. Took three days to acknowledge the case and the advice was to 'uninstall and re-install' I've also tried installing this on a Windows 10 workstation, Windows 7 workstation and a 2008R2 server and all do the same. I've tried disabling the AV, running as administrator etc etc. Has anyone else encountered this that can shed any light? Thanks!

Is it feasible to set up a secondary sccm site server at the remote site? OSD across a 100mb VPN link will be slow and bandwidth hungry. Especially if you are using sccm for windows updates and application deployment too. A secondary server will allow you to publish all your content from the primary site and then pxe boot locally. The minimum spec for a secondary server isn't that high and it can run from an sql express db on the same server.

Awesome, thank you! Do you know where I would get that .msi from? I installed SOLUS some time back so my original installation files are for a much older version. It's then kept itself up to date. I've had a look in the SOLUS program files folder on the server and can only find the agent MSIs. Thanks

Same as above, start menu shortcut pinned as a tile by using a custom start menu layout xml. If you're in the early stages you might also want to consider rolling office365 proplus client out instead of 2019. Updates as regularly as you choose and MS have said 2019 is the last of the 20xx releases.

It's specifically the 365 ProPlus client I am after rather than the online functionality. The governor in question doesn't have office on her personal computer and wants to use it for her governor work. It's a legitimate request. The free A1 licenses in O365 don't include ProPlus, only the online apps. We get ProPlus O365 via free SKUs on our EES agreement? I recently requested A1 Plus licenses from Microsoft so I can do device based activation (which was approved) - however they've said I need to continue adding the ProPlus SKUs on our EES agreement because that is part of their validation check for A1 Plus entitlement.

Seems a bit of an odd situation. We can't include them in our FTE count because they aren't employees. But we need them in our FTE count if we want to license them in O365. Schools who are using O365 for governor collaboration - what are you doing in terms of O365 licensing?

Hi All, Can anyone tell me if our EES agreements cover us to assign an A1 Plus faculty license to a governor, to include ProPlus 365 client download? I was asked the question today and although my gut feeling is yes, I'm not 100% certain. Surely some schools must use O365 Teams and SharePoint etc for governor collaboration, and therefore require the ability to do this? (We don't - we use Trust Governor). Thanks!

I'd be quite concerned by that, if I'm honest. Even the best filtering systems in the world will let some things through, some of the time. Students may also access content that is allowed on your filtering system, that may be useful to build up a picture when investigating a safeguarding concern, e.g. searching for information and help about abuse in the home, Samaritans etc. Without these logs, you'd have to tell your safeguarding officer, an outside agency or the police you are unable to provide any information about a students browsing habits whilst connected to your Wi-Fi which may make it more difficult for those people to spot a concern or pattern; making it hard for them to support the child concerned. With authentication and logging in place, it may be that any logs you hand over just confirm that nothing sinister has taken place in school - but that's a really good thing and much better than saying "they shouldn't be able to access anything inappropriate as our Wi-Fi is filtered; but I can't confirm this for sure as we don't log their activity whilst connected to our Wi-Fi". IMHO all Internet activity on school premises by any individual should be fully logged in order to meet your safeguarding obligations. If I were you I'd be asking your head to reconsider or to provide in writing instruction that he is happy to operate the system in this way.

You just have your first donation, £10. The amount of time and effort you have put into this for the community is exceptional. In particular my feature request for split screen last term was turned around very quickly and went down very well with the exams and SEN departments. Without this feature, we'd have had to use Word, which in my experience isn't particularly stable when 'crippled' to remove the proofing features. £10 of my own cash in lieu of all the headaches you saved me having to deal with Word issues during our mock season is worth every penny! I hope others using EWP consider a donation too. It's all too easy to use these free tools without realising the effort that goes in behind the scenes.

Hi All, For anyone else using McAfee Endpoint Security - I was wondering if you had managed to work out their new update cycle? From November 2018, they have moved to a monthly cumulative update cycle - deployed as a hotfix and released on the second Tuesday each month. However, they appear to be releasing main updates too. So for example, on Tuesday the following appeared in ePO software manager.... Endpoint Security Platform 10.6.1.1124 (previous latest version as of November was 10.6.1.1103) Endpoint Security Platform December Update 10.6.1.1125 Endpoint Security Threat Prevention 10.6.1.1208 (previous latest version as of November was 10.6.1.1169) Endpoint Security Threat Prevention December Update 10.6.1.1209 I can't work out what they are doing and there is no info online. If I check in both versions for each product then clients update first to 1124/1208 and then the hotfix is applied for 1125/1209. This seems so bizarre? Or is 1124/1208 supposed to be the 'install from fresh' version and 1125/1209 the 'update existing client' version? But if that's the case why have different version numbers? The same happened in November. 10.6.1.1068 main/10.6.1.1103 hotfix for ESP and 10.6.1.1128 main/10.6.1.1169 hotfix for ETP. I've looked around the McAfee site and Google and can find no answers so if anyone can shed any light I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Hi All, For years, we've used DFS here to present shares. So for example, our 'shared data' folder is \\domainname\shared$, with namespace server \\server\shared$. The contents of the shared drive are saved in \\server\shared$ and therefore presented via \\domainname\shared$. It's been like this for at least 10 years and means when we migrate file servers we can just update the namespace servers and all drive mappings etc continue to work. We're trialling a new product for remote live access to files, and it works beautifully except all attempts to rename files fail. The new product runs on a Linux distro, and the product team have worked out that the underlying samba agent has issues with the DFS structure. It honours it for read and write operations but causes an error on rename operation. The product team have come back to say storing data in a DFS root isn't good practice and we should really use folder targets within the namespace. However to change this now would obviously be a big change, as I'd have to have a new level within the DFS share, i.e. \\domainname\public with folder targets for shared, applications etc and then update the relevant drive mappings to \\domainname\public\shared$, \\domainname\public\apps$ etc. I just wondered if anyone else does what we do here and whether it really is such a bad idea? It's caused us 0 issues in the past 10 or so years so I'm reluctant to change for what is quite a minor issue! I didn't even realise it was 'wrong' until today! Thanks

Yep definitely option 2, that's what I do. You can right click and block the extra period on the other subjects in the block to prevent it being used. This makes the period turn black for those subjects.

Hi All, Over the last few months I've set up SCCM here and am using it for our Win10 rollout and have also now added all our pre-Win10 clients for update management etc. I'm a huge fan and wish we'd made the leap sooner. However, one thing that I can't find a quick solution for is looking at deployment compliance by machine. I can monitor deployment compliance on a per deployment level i.e. I can see which machines are successful/pending/failed for any given deployment, but I can't see an easy way to look at a single client machine to see which of it's advertised deployments are successful/pending/failed. Am I missing something somewhere or is this something I need to use SQL Reporting Services for? Thanks!

Hi All, OK so we've launched a new Facebook page recently, and I'd like our current amount of likes to be displayed on a screen in reception that refreshes every few seconds, so people can like the page and instantly see their like appear. A bit like Smirl but I'm looking for a software based solution. I've found various code snippets online, but they are more for displaying inline on a website. I'm looking for something that displays them in a large counter style that will fill the width of a screen. Any ideas? TIA
