I thought the regs prevented you from doing this? My understanding is that once the file has been printed and signed by the student, the electronic copy must be deleted. It's certainly how we operate here anyway. Plus if you keep old documents on the laptops, students will be able to open these by browsing to the documents area where they are saved and simply double clicking them?

Thanks for taking on board the idea about preventing overwrites in the save dialog. I will look forward to testing that when you release in January. Hope you have a fantastic birthday and Christmas - the work you put in to EWP and the speed you turn around fixes and suggestions is immense and very much appreciated. We've been running EWP3 for our mock season which finishes tomorrow and it's been rock solid, not a single crash! In terms of the encrypted config, personally for us I think it would be unnecessary. We run EWP from a hidden share that is not mounted as a drive, so it's extremely unlikely that any student would go looking for a config. We also don't use the password to exit feature. Others might think differently I suppose if they run from c: drive or a mounted network drive or use the password to exit feature. Take it easy!

Ahh sorry, I didn't realise this. It's not an available option in the config editor so I've missed it. I've found it in the documentation though and added manually into the config and that works a treat :-)

Also have a suggestion for a new feature - would it be possible to have an 'open existing exam' button on the candidate information screen that dismisses the candidate info screen and takes you straight to the open dialogue? This would help to speed up the process of getting a student back up and running in the event of an IT failure where they've had to move to another computer etc. Thanks :-)

We've had this happen twice in the last couple of weeks - not with EWP but with Word! I think today's generation of 'cloud' children are so used to things just saving without paying attention to where they are saved, what the name is, or even reading messages that pop up on screen, that they don't pay attention! @ass17 - is it possible or even worth disabling the ability to overwrite a file in EWP, so that you always have to choose a unique filename when saving via the save dialog? I can't think of a scenario here where we would want students to save over an existing exam file (except for the autosaves of course!)

No, it's not for enlarging images. I think it's some sort of art technique they do. They will have an image on the wall, and then in front of it they will hang layers of acetate which will have additional details / colouring etc on. The idea is that you look through them and see the overall effect of the different layers together, which requires the individual acetate layers to by crystal clear.

Hi All, Our laser photocopiers are being replaced soon with Riso inkjet based ones. Our Art department have flagged that they will no longer be able to print A3 acetates, which is a regular requirement for them. I've suggested that they print them on their A3 inkjet photo printer, which is an Epson ET-7750. However, the inkjet acetates they currently have are not perfectly transparent. They have a coating on them to accept the wet ink, which makes them slightly opaque and milky. I've said I will research into perfectly transparent inkjet transparencies, as I am sure I have seen them before. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to buy this before I start hunting? Thanks!

We've been using Mobility Print since it was first released (we are a PaperCut NG customer) and I have to say it's an amazing piece of software. So easy to set up too. Our BYOD students and stuff wouldn't be without it.

Hi @ass17, That's great, thanks for sorting those so quickly. I've done a demo this morning with our exams department and the feedback was really positive. They really like the new interface, therefore we'll be using it live next week for our mock exams! :-D A couple of small niggles... 1. It would be great if there was an option for English IPA symbols on the accents dialog. These weren't in the old EWP either but we've apparently needed them for A-Level English/English Literature exams in the past. I think we told them to use character map last year but it means they have to choose the correct font and search for them. I've got a Word document with them all in which I can send you if you like? 2. It would be better if buttons hidden in the config are hidden on the toolbar rather than disabled to avoid confusion. I think you said you were already working on this though 3. If you click on the exit button, but then press cancel to stay in EWP, the audio still un-mutes Only minor points really, it looks like it is good to go! Thanks :-)

Hi, Just a couple of minor bits I've found this morning... 1. Spelling mistake on candidate info screen, should be 'Centre' not 'Center' 2. Is it possible for the centre number and centre name to be pre-populated when there is only one option in the list? I've added our centre details to the config which makes it appear in the combo box, but for single centre schools it would be fab to avoid those extra clicks 3. Mute audio doesn't work for us when specified in the config. You see the volume control appear on the screen momentarily on open but it doesn't mute The new software is looking great by the way, a much cleaner interface. We are testing with the exams department tomorrow so will let you know if there is anything to feed back.

Apologies for the delayed reply. We didn't have the deployment set to go out to Microsoft if content isn't available, however this is what was happening. We were seeing the update fail on lots of clients with error 80070057, and those that were succeeding were download from MS instead of SCCM, presumably because for some reason the clients believed the copy on our SCCM server to be bad. We pulled the update and our bandwidth usage returned to normal levels once those clients that had already started updating had completed. There is now some recognition of the issue on MS Support, apparently they have replaced the update now with one that works, but those clients that have already updated 'may not be able to update further'. Hi All, I deployed the 1910 update (monthly channel) for Office365 ProPlus client on Thursday morning, through SCCM. We've noticed that since then, our Internet connection has become increasingly slower. I've looked at the bandwidth utilisation using PRTG, and we're at 95mb+ pretty much solidly since the update was approved. I've looked at our SmoothWall and am seeing a lot of hits to officecdn.microsoft.com and officecdn.microsoft.com.edgesuite.net. I'm just working my way through the SmoothWall bandwidth reports to confirm for certain, but I'm 95% sure that this Office update is the cause. Has anyone else seen this?

One bug I've noticed after doing a very quick test is that if you disable the find/replace button on the toolbar, you can still CTRL+F to bring up the find and replace dialog.

Hi @ass17, Thanks as always for your hard work on this project. We've benefitted from it immensely at our school. We've got mocks coming up in December, so we are looking to deploy EWP 3. I just wondered whether the latest download on your website (v3.0.6.0) includes the fixes you talk about above or whether a new version is imminent? Also can I just check that V3 includes all the features from V2, and in particular the screen splitting feature that I requested and you very kindly implemented? Thanks :-D

That's interesting @sparkeh. We deploy 16.0.11029.20079 (December 2018 Monthly) and like you have had no issues when it comes to activation as part of the TS whether it's a new machine or a re-image. I was actually thinking that I should update the source soon but sounds like we're better off leaving it as is and let it update to the latest approved update in SCCM. @KevinB - this might be due to SCCM task sequences running under the 'Local System' identity. If you're behind a proxy this account will be unknown to it - make sure you have the URLs that OPPTransition.exe uses whitelisted on your proxy so they can be accessed by all users including unauthenticated users. This tripped me up for a little while when I first set it up.

Just to add to this again, I've allowed the Outlook mobile app again and let users know. Quite a number of students have started using it again. The logs have increased in size, but nowhere near as drastic last time. With Outlook mobile blocked, we were averaging ~300mb per day. This week, on Monday it was 462mb and yesterday it was 526mb. Analysing the logs shows that some Outlook mobile clients are hitting our server ~11,000 times per day which is still excessive, but better than the 300,000 times before the app bug fix. Will keep an eye on it as other clients reconnect. Are you seeing any improvement @Max_Power and @k-strider?

That's great news - I'll give it a week or so for everyone to update and then enable the app on our Exchange server again and see what happens!

Yeah fine. I e-mailed them first to warn them it was happening and asked them to use a different app (suggested either built-in Mail app or GMail). We've had a few pop in to ask for help setting it up but other than that it's been fine. We had approx. 120 users using Outlook.

Just wanted to ask what issues people are having with DBA using OPPTransition.exe? It still seems to be working fine for us. We did a batch of 64 laptops at the end of August with no trouble plus odd machines re-imaged since then and each time office has licensed fine?

Just to confirm that the issue is definitely with the Outlook app. I took the decision to block the Outlook-iOS-Android/1.0 user agent in Exchange on Wednesday. My IIS log file from yesterday is only 300mb (vs 3-5Gb for previous days). I have also enabled NTFS compression on the IIS logs folder as suggested by k-strider. This helps with disk space and seems to be compressing the logs to around about 45% of their original size without any noticeable impact on performance. I have also posted a message on the MSDN forums (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/4132cc73-a67a-4fae-a998-b98d9ac55904/throttling-outlook-mobile-clients?forum=Exch2016CM). I have had a response identifying the ActiveSync (EAS) settings available and their default values but I'm still not sure what would be a good setting in a production environment.
