  1. I'm sure if you send Link a message they will add you to the list.
  2. Just had the following email from Link: "Link2ICT Firewall Update – April 2014 Firewall Issues – Background The new Link2ICT Firewall Solution (Checkpoint) was introduced over the Christmas break to replace the aged Cisco solution. This was implemented, as the existing solution was unable to provide the ‘Next Generation’ functionality required of today’s modern firewalls. Due to the complexity of the Cisco firewall, it was not possible to carry out a phased migration of school Internet traffic. A decision was therefore made to migrate all schools at once, and to ensure all support services were in place for when schools returned. Upon schools’ return, Internet access problems were experienced, caused by extremely high volumes of traffic over short periods of time. For a more detailed and technical explanation of events, please refer to the Link2ICT Knowledgebase Article KB0012440 Moving Forward As part of the ongoing to work to stabilise and enhance the services offered by the new Firewall solution, a number of configuration updates will be carried out over the coming weeks. The first update will look to isolate high Internet volumes from daily application traffic via delivery of a new separate ‘Virtual’ firewall. The timetable of migration for all schools is: Sunday 13th April, 10am – 8pm. All school Internet traffic will be re-routed. There may be disruption to Internet access whilst the work is being carried out. However, VPN connections will not be affected. External IP addresses for the Link2ICT proxy servers will change, please refer to Knowledgebase Article KB0012440 if this may impact your services. Volunteers Needed During the week beginning Monday 14th April (first week of Easter break), we would like as many schools as possible to access the Internet using the Link2ICT Network. High volumes of traffic will allow us to gauge the success of this implementation and if you can help us to generate some of this traffic, we would be extremely grateful. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact the Link2ICT Service Desk on 0121 303 5100 – [email protected] or log into the Link2ICT Support Portal." Biggest thing to note is that the proxys are changing so if you reference by IP you will need to change. No mention on if they will just change their DNS for the eduproxy record but I suspect they will.
  3. Best bet would be to go here: Networks and find relevant instructions for your system. I have had problems because I am using CC4 but there is no reason why it should not work on vanilla. Failing that email [email protected] or call 0208 748 1170.
  4. Did you do the server or client based install? Server based installs are only suitable for a handful of clients. Your issue seems to suggest a communication issue with the server, have you opened the white space network manager and run the test communicator? Failing that restarting the management service and application?
  5. At least they aren't just trying to remake the original, but you're right there is no way it can live up to expectations.
  6. There are no words for this, its a whole new level of awful.
  7. Not to mention that the US Government don't even hide the fact: Obama Administration Backs Apple in Patent Dispute with Samsung - Law Blog - WSJ
  8. @SYNACK What I meant was not to tie the Apple ID to individual teachers school email accounts. If they leave you will either need to keep the account active or re purchase software once the iPad is re assigned. All I am doing is using Alias addresses that can easily be moved to a new mailbox if required. For example I would create ipadict01, ipadict02 etc.
  9. If the app is paid for and everything is above board there would be nothing stopping them from being used. My personal opinion is that no personal accounts should be used on iPads, it just leaves (a small) door open to abuse and you not being able to track it. Generic department accounts all the way.
  10. What new features does it bring?
  11. When ever I want to push people out of their (mainstream) comfort zone I nearly always go straight for: You can't beat a bit of TOOL!
  12. I remember that too, I think the solution was to turn off bypass proxy server for local addresses in IE. EDIT: Here is the link to the original http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/124386-office-365-outlook-connectivity-through-proxy.html
  13. Because other people in the area have started taking up the service would be my guess, particularly if you are FTTC.
  14. I stand to be corrected but I thought specifying the logons is beyond the remit of Ofsted, the monitoring part may be valid though as it comes under safeguarding. Thinking about it the monitoring part is only valid if you know exactly who was using what logon so that would imply the logon part. Thinking even further though how does this work for iPads and the like? Some monitoring systems do not work on iOS and unless you are going to play with profiles at the start of each lesson you would still have no idea on who is using what. (I know this is a little scattered but it is a good reflection of my mind at the moment!)
  15. Thanks, I am sure I gave that whole page to our DNS host, I will get them to check again.
  16. So I moved to O365 a couple of months ago, I have just sent a an email to my own personal Outlook.com account and it has the flowing message at the top of the email: "Be careful! This sender has failed our fraud detection checks." I have done a quick search and found that this message is due to an invalid or missing SPF record on our public DNS. I have run a check on our domain at Sender Policy Framework (SPF) Record Lookup - MxToolbox and it does indicate that an SPF record is not present. Does anyone know what value I should be requesting in relation to this? I have looked at the O365 online portal DNS settings but it doesn't mention SPF at all.
  17. Come on everyone
  18. Two of the questions I was waiting on answers for were about when we would expect access to the filtering system & if we will be able to have differing policies based on group membership and / or VLAN ID. The answer to both questions was that they are working on it but are unable to give dates. As a result I'm not hanging around, I renewed for just six months to give me the chance to move in the summer if needed. I was told last summer they would be upgrading to Moodle 2.4, we are still on 1.9. The lack of fixed dates means I can't plan for anything and it is therefore holding me back. The one thing I didn't ask is why they have gone for URL based filtering rather than content filtering.
  19. You and your idealistic dreams. Given my current situation I will probably be there in May although I may have already set wheels in motion by then.
  20. I have just sent my paperwork off. It has cost about 60% of the price to do it; in order to cover Link2ICTs upfront costs. I got very poor answers from the questions I asked, all were to the effect of: its coming but we can't say when.
  21. @Little-Miss have you heard anything from your account manager? I still haven't had a word back about my questions, I'm giving them until lunch to respond. Am I being unreasonable to expect answers to (some quite complicated) questions having originally emailed Wednesday afternoon?
