Casio led xjm150 ( i think will check when i get in) on a pole projected onto Promethean Activ Boards using either the built speakers of the board using usb or a set of external speakers mounted on the wall. With other devices like apple tv plugged either into the additional sockets on the activ board itself or into a wall plate connected to the speakers. Can post a picture of the two styles of setup if interested.

I only left college last year with alevels in geography, music tech, IT and physics with a high potential of going onto uni but decided it wasnt for me and got a job at the same college as a tech full time. I came into the role with basic linux, mac experience with some experience of windows GPO, AD etc and this grown massively to the point I was near enough given main lead on a 40k storage and cluster expansion from the ordering and delivery of kit to installation, testing, migration of data with help from the other guys in the office. They are extending my contract for another year where i should be taking on other projects such as looking after the virtual cluster.

RT you can set up with multiple queues so one for IT one for Maintenance and then you just need to set the right permissions on the users so they only see the correct queue or they just select the correct queue from the list down the left.
-
Im sure @Millgate might be able to help you out with something. I know he quoted for a care pack on server i was looking at
-
Another vote here for RT its soo flexible and can be made to do alot of things. We have ours monitoring 4 fairly active mailboxes with IT, premises and office staff using it to keep track of jobs and makes it really easy to shift jobs between departments if needed.

We have chrome installed across the site as the default browser. Staff are being asked to enter a user / password for UAC to allow chrome to make changes to the PC. Only a domain admin login works for this but staff are super users on the pcs to allow sims updates etc and have full permissions to C:\ProgramFiles\Google Can anybody point me in the right direction? So we can have chrome just update silently?

Ours is off a corridor but you have to go through our store room to get it to it and both doors have keycoded pads on it and both numbers are different. Only people who know the code are IT staff / Premises

We have two file host nodes attached to our san for centralized storage. Every so often each of the hosts stop allowing connections to them and running service smbd restart then solves the problem. We currently run with roaming profiles for staff with redirected AppData. We have come across an issue recently where staff were finding that their favourites etc were being lost between logins after some searching on google we found that the bookmarks are stored in C:\Users\max\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default in a book marks file We got round this using GPO to redirect this user data folder into their redirected app data but if someone leaves them selves logged in, in their office they then cannot use chrome on another pc because it creates a locked file and then corrupts the data. Which then gives the user a your profile could not be loaded properly. This can be solved by removing the google folder from their appdata. I was wondered whether any one else has this issue? Or if anyone has any ideas?

thats quite a funky design i like it

Any body know how good the spam filter is and manageable it is? We get quite a lot of spam throughout the day

I wouldn't want to have to pay out for another backup solution seeing as our current solution works fine and sits on 28TB of storage. Then the other argument is that each student / staff gets 5gb of storage. Do they upload their entire docs area to the cloud or just word, ppt, excel etc as some of our users are pushing 9gb home areas with alot of those doing multimedia work so yes they could upload their photo shop files etc to the web so they could access them anywhere but then involves downloading / uploading materials all the time

One of the 6th formers who works with us went to the FT in london for a weeks work experience and they are entirely Google Apps based and it seemed to work really well for them. I think its one of those that alot of investigating and a lot of thinking through is required with a clear plan and time scale of transition

As a young man of 19 I use google docs for sharing various things with the others in the office but I'm still not looking forward to moving the whole school it. Keep being given the its really good because you can use it anywhere and have loads of people using it etc but I'm yet to see it in action and like you say I haven't seen very much info in terms of how much control you have over backup regimes and the retention time on those backups. So i can see it all going well till those one or two kids come in looking for work they removed over 3 - 5 weeks ago and then we get it in the neck because we can't retrieve it back for them.

we also use mp3 recorders something like this or a cheaper version depending on your budget just click record and then transfer the mp3 files off afterwards

for helpdesk we use Request Tracker on a linux machine running apache
