Sorry to ask but do you at least have a base salary that you are starting at for the lowest experience? Just to give a rough idea?

Afternoon We have an early 2008 mac pro quad core xeon that we want to upgrade from the 2Gb ram that is already inside it. Does anyone know what RAM is needed for this? Want to put some more in it so we can hopefully upgrade it to lion if possible. Cheers!

Downloading from VLC .....
mdench replied to victory2012's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
we are on a leased line no connection to county etc and we have issues downloading stuff from VLC. I gave up in the end, on the one day it seemed to work i grabbed as many ISOs as possible for win 7 and Server 2008 / 2012 and stored them on the network. The site is soo slow and clunky its unreal -
+1 for the novatech mice n keyboards we got 200ish of each over the summer when we bought some new PCs and they seem to last.

What MIS do you use? Its not using shared calendars but we use Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software which syncs with SIMs every night to show all the classrooms available but also shows them as closed if the exams officer needs to book them out for exams etc. If your interested drop them a call / email and they arrange a free trial period for us to take a look at it. we originally only intended to use it for ICT rooms but we now have staff using it book specific teaching rooms if needed. We can use it to book a room out to do maintenance.

fairly quiet half term hopefully ( tho now i have said that something is bound to break) Just got a few pcs to put in and re install our backup server. Been in the last two days re configuring all the permissions on our file cluster in time with some virtual cluster maintenance. Then reduce our helpdesk to 0 tickets hopefully and tidy our office and server room.

+1 for Smoothwall it works soo well. It's so easy to block / unblock something for the school. The ability to allow for certain groups, or for custom locations. The built in VPN is fantastic for connecting and working from home if needed. The support is fantastic sometimes can take a while to get through but when they do ring back its normally quickly resolved.

Our mac mini server won't boot it sits at the apple logo with the spinning circle for ever! We have booted into Verbose mode and got the following: Bootcahcecontrol: Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist : no such file or directory Warning: couldn't block sleep during cache update Warning: proceeding w/o diskArb Warning: Kextd unavailable; proceeding w/o lock for And then it just stops we resolved this last time by restoring / rebuilding it and setting up profile manager, deploy studio, we rebooted it and bam its done it again... Any one got any ideas?

First things to check are that your leads are plugged in properly. We have this in one room because the faceplate in the wall has been bashed and so the vga lead is loose causing the colours to change. Also check that no one has mucked around with the colour settings in the projector menu.

A download directory is set as i said if delete and recreate the folder manually the download locations works perfectly. It just seems to be an issue with the initial folder creation using GPO

Nobody?

We have an issue here that I can't quite get my head around and its driving me nuts! We have re directed folders including Downloads so downloads is redirected to %homeshare%%homepath%/Downloads When a user logs in all their redirected folders create absolutely fine with full permissions to the folders now created in their area. Chrome is set up to save downloads in N:\Downloads but when you click on a link to say a word document it gives you a Save Location window rather than auto downloading. If i the user then removes the download folder and either recreates a folder called Downloads or clicks on the link again it will create the folder Downloads and then auto download the file without asking you where to save it. The folder is created with exactly the same persmissions / attributes. If i then remove the folder log out and log back in again allowing GPO to remake the folder it then breaks the save downloads location and the save location box comes back..... Can anyone think of anything that i can try or think I'm doing something wrong? Cheers!

Another +1 for xibo we used to use it for just main screens across the site but it seems to have taken off this year with the canteen using it for menus, english, geography and languages have just had screens fitted along with music having a tv so they have sound. All the departments have been shown how to use not had to help them since. On one occasion it was me going away to google something to work out how the teacher had managed to do something. We have it running on our internal facing webserver VM with the clients being HP supermicro pcs core 2 duo 2 GB ram. Though running out of these so will probs get some acer revo or similar. Connected to either 50" LG tvs or 27" philips LED screens they are beautiful i want to steal them and put them on my desk!

Just got clicking new posts and this thread -
Papercut - being installed tomorrow - advice please!
mdench replied to klop's topic in Enterprise Software
This works on the assumption that your MFPs are the same model (haven't been able to test on varying models) but we have set up a virtual print queue with multiple release stations. So a teacher can print to the virtual printer and it holds it in the queue. They can walk up to any of our copiers 8 across the site and put their finger on the biometric reader though for you this would be their pin code and then they can release any of the prints that are held in the queue. -

oh yeah still going strong only slight dodge moment with it was when it went into bypass mode after a powercut and having to stand in the server room holding down the power button for 5 seconds with the whole server room running which is exactly what you have to do to turn it off.... that was fun haha!
