  1. Hi folks, recently we asked our internet provider to password protect youtube - so when trying to open youtube on any browser, it should come up with a warning, allow the user to click on `proceed' and then prompt the user for a username and password. It works absolutely fine on any windows PC with internet explorer, and also strangely enough, on safari on our ipads... However this will not work at all on the teachers macbooks with safari or google chrome. When they attempt to open up youtube using safari, it just never gets there - the blue progress bar moves across about an inch and just sits there. When they try to open it with google chrome, it brings up the first warning screen, but when they click on `proceed', it brings up a certificate error. I understand that this is a pretty specific query! If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. I know it has something to do with security and certificates but I'm not sure where to start poking.
  2. thank you! In the bin it goes...
  3. It turns out we've had this `thing' for a long time but it has never been used - it appears to be a series of plastic mats made up of brightly coloured squares and shapes... there are some PS2 type connectors which go into a box, and there is a lead coming from the box which has some kind of serial connection on the end! It bears a logo which says `matgames.com' but that website is up for sale, so I've not been able to glean any information about this device at all. If anyone can give me a clue I would appreciate it! I've attached some photos in case it jogs anyone's memory thanks a lot
  4. Hi guys - I'm not really sure whether I should post this in the Mac OS section or the visualisers section, so apologies if it is in the wrong place! I've got a mac user with a problem with the A+ software for Aver visualisers; it keeps crashing every time she opens it. It works fine for the administrator user on the same mac, it only affects this one user on this one mac. The error message contains references to EXC_BAD ACCESS and also KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE, although I haven't managed to get down all the details yet. So far I've tried running the disk utility and repairing the disk and disk permissions. I've also booted up in safe mode, and uninstalled/re-installed the application to no avail. Anyone know how to get round these errors? thanks
  5. it's not a hidden share. I read somewhere about putting some kind of hidden folder on a windows server share, at the root, in order for mac users to be able to access it properly, but I'm damned if I can find that information again! I am also wondering if I need to update Office 2011 on each macbook - there could be a fix for this.
  6. thanks for that, some interesting stuff in the thread. My users can actually see the windows server in the sidebar already, but when they click on the `shared' folder it shows up as blank and won't let them save to it.
  7. Hi folks - I'm having some specific problems and I wonder if anyone can help me? The staff here are using macbooks (all on Mavericks OS), which are part of a windows AD domain (don't ask). They access a shared folder on the ancient, and soon-to-be-replaced 2003 server. They can browse the contents of the shared drive, and can open documents contained within it, but when they come to `save as', an browse to the shared folder - it shows as completely blank, and they can't save to it... This problem seems to happen specifically with Office 2011 programs. Is there anything I need to do to the shared folder on the Windows server? Any advice would be useful, thanks!
  8. I've been having the same problem, although it seems to work on Google Chrome and Opera. My main problem is that I can't log a case! I keep getting an error about `too many redirects' whenever I click on case log
  9. in fact, to add to that, quite a few companies were on the cusp of developing something for more than one school at a time. ESchools in particular are developing multi-school VLEs as we speak, due to popular demand. DB Education were also really accommodating on that front, and I think Frog are also looking into it over the summer.
  10. Hi PermSingh- the project is on hold just at the moment, but we'll pick it up again in September. I managed to organise quite a few demos, and was particularly impressed with Frog, DB Primary and ESchools - quite a tough choice it turned out to be!
  11. Hi folks, a bit of an odd one here - when a user tries to print a PowerPoint presentation from her MacBook, the slides all come out blank. I've tried reinstalling the printer, but this hasn't solved it so far. Anyone else come across this issue? All other office programs print fine, this only happens with PowerPoint. OS = Mavericks Office version: 2011 printer: Ricoh Aficio MP C3000
  12. Thanks James, that was one of the ones I was going to look at, as well Frog, or Learnanywhere. Moodle looks way too complicated for our needs, but I'm just starting out with my investigation, so any advice is very useful! cheers
  13. Hi folks - I'm currently looking into the possiblity of implementing a VLE which will be shared between an infant and a junior school. Has anyone every done this? Does anyone have any recommendations? thanks
  14. FINALLY cracked it! It was the path to the ESM_Test_Centre folder - it HAS to be set up as a URL (\\server\ESM_Test_Centre) rather than as a mapped drive like I had done it. I'd been putting it in as a folder in a mapped network drive, and it works fine as the domain admin, but no-one else. Now it works for all exams users I'd set up. thanks for everyone's suggestions
  15. thanks a lot for all your help folks. At the moment, I'm still at the stage where the software will only run for the domain admin and no-one else. I've checked all permissions to folders and registry entries, and they are all in accordance with Pearson's guidelines. I've created several users with local admin rights, but I'm no closer. Apparently there is someone from Pearson coming tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes!
  16. Well looks like I must join the queue of people having problems with this software! I've got the share and the ESM server software on a server, all permissions as they should be... Trying to install the ESM Administrator software on a Windows 7 64 laptop- will ONLY run logged in as the domain admin. I've set up other users, given them full admin rights to registry entries, shared folders, program folders etc, but get runtime errors, and error 5209 every time I open the software. Anyone seen this before?
  17. Actually I'm having some serious problems with this software! I'm trying to get the ESM Administrator to run on windows 7 64 bit laptops but it will ONLY run when logged in as the domain admin account... All paths and permissions are correct as far as I can see.
  18. OK - now it is sorted! It turns out that when you define the SIMS and FMS databases in `update environment' and at the bottom it asks for the database name, and a username and password; that refers to the `sa' user, not a SIMS or FMS user. Apparently in the next documentation for Solus3, they are going to make this obvious. Have to say the people I've spoken to at Capita today have been extremely helpful.
  19. Hi folks - the issue is finally fixed! Matt40k - thanks for the s3unlock program, although the issue kept coming back immediately afterwards, as soon as I tried to reinstall the agent it would just say `install queued'. In case anyone has the same issue again - here is what I had to do to fix it: It turns out one of the solus services was falling over on the server, because of the GUIDS for the workstations saved into the Solus3 SQL database; for some reason the GUIDS on the workstations were different to those in the database. I was advised to install SQL Server Management Studio for SQL 2012, run a query for each workstation (where name like '%MACHINE-01%') and copy the GUID shown below. On the Solus 3 console, right click on the failed agent and choose `open network path in explorer'. Go to program files\solus3\agentservice - find sims.solus3.agent.agentservice.exe (which is a config file) and open with notepad. in the file, there is a line which refers to agentID - the GUID shown in here will be wrong. Delete the old GUID, paste the GUID which you've copied from SQL into here and then restart both Solus3 services on the workstation, then on the server for good measure. This should then start working!
  20. I have indeed. All enabled, target types defined. Locked and loaded...
  21. Thanks for your help folks. So far at looks as though the agent details are set up correctly, and all working agents have a version number. Maybe I've missed something really obvious. The solus3 server at our end is only for authorisation, and the schools are supposed to download the updates at their end, from Capita.
  22. I have set up a Solus 3 server at the school as well, it's all registered etc. Proxy settings are all in place. It's when I come to run `check for new updates' at the school end, that I get nothing. All very odd...
  23. Hmmm having a few issues with Solus3!! It seems like I am not the only one, having browsed various forums on here... I've set up a Solus 3 authorising server at our end, and installed Solus 3 on several schools. I've tried authorising a couple of minor patches to a couple of schools, just to test it, and when I come to authorise it, it all seems to work fine at our end. When I try to download updates at the school end - nothing. Anyone had this?
  24. I've got the same problem - `install queued' for all agents... It doesn't give me the option to uninstall/reinstall and all the buttons are greyed out! Solus3 seems somewhat flaky...
  25. thanks - turns out I was being an idiot. Problem solved. I'm still finding my way round Solus 3 - it seems very over-engineered.
