Hi folks, I'm still a relative newbie to apple technology although I can find my way around the basic bits of mac server and workgroup... I've got one mac user who's home directory has stopped syncing, and flatly refuses to sync at all! When she logs in, it brings up shortcuts to her home folder and the main staff drive, both of which work (both located on the server), but it doesn’t run the sync. When I click on `sync home now’ it brings up an error The first error says: There was a problem connecting to the server “server.orchard.lan” The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. When I click OK: The sync could not complete because your network home at “afp://server.orchard.lan/StaffHomes” is unavailable. The mac server is indeed called `server' The user’s home folder opens without problems. I’ve checked the user’s permissions on the folder (on the mac server) and they all look fine; anyone seen this before? I've also checked the time and date, which is exactly the same as the mac server.

Yes, it's the Dell image that was on the laptop. We've got no site license yet for Windows 7. I did manage to get this completed in the end, but I had to go about it in a very peculiar way: There is some Cyberlink ISO software on the laptop for some reason - the only way I've been able to install office 2010 was to re-download the ISO from Microsoft, mount it as a virtual drive using the Cyberlink software, and installing it that way!!

Hi guys, in all the years I've been installing Office 2010 Pro Plus on our Windows 7 Pro laptops and desktops I've honestly never come across this error before. We got a new batch of Dell Vostro laptops in, all with Windows 7 Pro SP1 pre-installed. I CANNOT install Office 2010 Pro Plus on the laptop that I have unboxed! I'm using the same files as I've used on every other machine in school, and I get this error - `setup is unable to proceed due to the following errors: This product requires Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or above' I am not running the install in compatibility mode. I'm logged on as the domain admin. I've tried redownloading the software and writing to a DVD - same problem. I've tried copying the files to the local hard drive and installing it from there - same problem. I've never had this issue on any of our HP laptops with similar spec, nor any of our desktop PCs from various manufacturers. Anyone seen this before?

Yes, our junior school wouldn't want to pay out for something like a SAN, and as Shimmer45 rightly said, there's not a large enough workload to justify it.

Yes, my console looks just like that. And there is definitely no RAID configured in Windows, although there may be RAID set up in HP iLo (although I've never had the credentials for that).

Thanks for your reply jamesfed. The physical server is an HP ProLiant ML350P Gen8 running Server 2012 Standard. I didn't set up the server - was hoping to add two more drives and then convert to RAID array... The D: drive is 931 GB I've removed all the snapshots listed in the Hyper-V Management console, but I notice when browsing the Hyper-V Hard Disks folder, although there are plenty of AVHD files still. Hyper V Manager console is version 6.2.9200 I hope that helps - and thanks again for your reply!

Hi folks, I'm relatively new to the world of virtualisation although I know a few bits of maintenance. I've discovered that our three hyper-v servers are almost completely filling the volume up, with only a few MB to spare! I'm purchasing some more hot-swappable hard drives, but I have a few questions about hosting the VMs. Currently the 3 VMs are hosted on our server's D: drive which is a basic volume. Should I - add another hard drive, configure it as a basic volume and move one of the VMS to it? Or - configure D: and the new hard drive as a dynamic volume and add capacity that way? Does it even matter? Sorry for the stupid questions, and thanks in advance for any advice.

In case anyone is interested at all; it turned out that it was a combination of Solus3 and Sophos antivirus. I disabled Sophos A/V, started up Solus3 and it downloaded the patch straight away without crashing the server! Started up Sophos AV again and no problems... Anyway, if anyone is reading this, I hope it helps you.

Hi Al, I've got a question with regards to this; we have quite a mixed environment, and all teachers use macbooks, but pupils use Windows 7 laptops and ipads. What would be the best NetSupport software solution to use for this scenario? thanks

After much trial and error, I found out that it was the SIMS patch for the latest census causing the server to blue screen somehow - the ZIP file was missing a signature file and the server did NOT like it one bit!

Well, I've got a little further; I've stopped two services (one for the remote backup and one for the Sophos Anti Virus updater that looked like it upgraded itself yesterday) and now it seems stable... Also reseated the RAM in the main Hyper-V server just in case!

Hi guys, I don't know if anyone else here has had this issue: BSOD stop error 0x0000001e on one hyper v virtual server. .. I just can't get to the bottom of it I suspect it's not hardware as it's not affecting the other virtual servers. Event log doesn't give me a lot although it looks as though the netlogon service is stopping. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks a lot

Hi folks - we have quite a few windows laptops we've purchased recently for the infant school I work for; they are all running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. What I am trying to do is create a desktop shortcut to shut down and log off the laptop using Group Policy - our server is running 2012 Standard. I've tried this in Group Policy User Configuration - Preferences - Windows Settings - Shortcuts I don't know what I am doign wrong exactly, but it isn't working, that is for sure! Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks a lot. I've attached the picture in case it doesn't show up in the middle of my text.

Is it worth checking DNS, or flushing the DNS cache on some of these workstations?
