  1. Hi folks, I know some of this should be basic stuff but it's been years since I've looked at this... We've got an influx of Windows 10 Pro laptops - they are HP and I've noticed that they don't have Product Code stickers, apparently it's hard coded onto the motherboard! I'm trying to set up WDS on our now rather ancient 2008 R2 servers. My concerns are these: Should I be using MDT or something else instead? I'm planning on capturing the image from one of the HP laptops, the pre-installed Windows 10 Pro. I have made my tweaks and installed some of our software on it - if I try to install the sysprepped image onto another one of the HP laptops, will it automatically re-activate WIndows with the hard-coded product key or am I screwed with that?? Please help if you can.... thanks!

  3. Is anyone using this in their school?
  4. I'll have to get back to you on that one, although I don't think it is a Microsoft Precision trackpad. I actually suspect it is a glue issue - some of these trackpads are really unresponsive, you practically have to thump them to get them to do what you want!
  5. Hi folks, this is not a technical query for once- I just wanted to vent my frustration with a particular well-known maker of laptops and PCs! I always try to approach kit with an open mind, after all you hear so many conflicting pieces of advice about who to use and who to avoid. Anyway, lately I've found Asus products to be especially poor, with a much higher failure rate than other manufacturers! At our infant school, we bought 16 Asus laptops for children to use, of those at least 3 (but potentially more) have terrible trackpads which are really unresponsive and extremely difficult for the children to use. Asus' advice in every case I've logged with them has been to reinstall/update drivers, although this does not fix the issue. At our junior school, we've leased Asus Transformer books: of the 90 we leased, at least 6 have problems turning on, in fact they just won't come on at all, and others that worked in the first week have stopped working. They are being investigated currently. One of the ones I sent off to Asus which won't turn on has been replaced by another unit, however this came back to me in a really dirty condition, covered in other people's sticky fingerprints everywhere! Also, this new unit won't turn on either. Another Asus transformer book I sent off last week has come back with a reinstall of Windows which will not activate! Pretty poor service as well as poor products I would say. Maybe I'm being unduly harsh, but maybe not.
  6. Are there many people from the UK that go to this show - it does look amazing! Must have cost a pretty penny to get there
  7. That is really odd, I've just started having the same issues with some users (but not others). We don't use a proxy server. Getting Error 10. The users that are affected are using Outlook 2010, and our Exchange server is also 2010. The SSL certificate isn't due to expire until October 2018, so I'm a bit stumped!
  8. Well, so much for that - installing a new splitter has worked for one teacher, but for another with an identical HP ZBook Studio it only lasted 3 days and then reverted back to the same old problems as before. Back to HP with a request to re-open the case...
  9. Well, i spoke to Microsoft for over 2 hours and they came back with `the attachments must contain malware' and left it at that. I've since spoken to SMART, who have thoroughly scanned the files and not found any malware, neither have any of the scanners I've used. Not really sure where to go from here, I'm wondering if I need to speak to someone specific at Microsoft...
  10. Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this thread - it's been insane this half term!! I managed to fix this in the end by buying a more expensive splitter which was also an HDMI amplifier! As soon as I put the new splitter in place, it worked just fine in this teacher's classroom. We were using old, cheap Lindy ones - looks like I will have to replace them all. This is the new replacement: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EH6XTM8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  11. Brill, thanks a lot Steve. I've added a few spam rules and so on, so we'll see what happens next!
  12. Thanks again Steve - what's the most efficient way to do that? I've set something up in spam filters, but I'm still concerned that files with a .notebook attachment will get blocked randomly
  13. Thank you!! Looks as though some of these messages are being deleted as Office 365 thinks they contain malware. Instead, they contain SMART notebook files!
  14. I am just trying to find the Office 365 mail flow tester which I've seen before! There is no exchange server - with the infant school it is all hosted in Office 365.
  15. Hi folks, apologies if there is already a thread for this somewhere. At the infant school I support, they are having some odd issues with Office 365 email. Teacher A sends an email to Teacher B, with an attachment - Teacher B sometimes never receives the email, but occasionally they do suddenly drop into her inbox days later. Teacher B can send all emails to Teacher A and they all get through. All teachers are part of the same organisation. Teacher A is now using a totally different laptop, different version of Outlook etc, but the problems persist. Anyone had issues like this before?
  16. I was advised by NVidia to switch from `auto' to select one or the other graphics card, but this didn't make any difference. I'll try to get a screen grab of the `PhysX' settings - it is a pretty screen :-) No screen grab today - observations going on!
  17. It's ironic, but older, lower spec laptops with an HDMI output don't have these problems!
  18. Hi folks, thanks a lot for your quick response. The laptops are not touch screen, it could well be cheap HDMI splitters though.. There is a setting in the NVidia control panel called PhysX, which chooses between graphics cards. By default it is set to auto choose, but even if I set it to one or the other, this makes no difference in terms of output.
  19. Hi folks, this is a bit of an obscure one - I've already asked NVidia themselves about this and they haven'[t come up with any recommendations so far, and I've also spoken to HP. I'm not getting anywhere with this strange predicament yet! We've leased some very posh new laptops: HP ZBook Studio G3 which have some really nice spec. However, staff that have our old classroom setup (nothing to do with me I hasten to add) are having no end of problems getting these laptops to display properly. The setup is as follows: HDMI connection from laptop into cheap HDMI splitter, which then goes into two non-interactive flat screen TVs at either end of the classroom. The existence of the splitter seems to cause massive problems for this fancy graphics card, it will NOT duplicate onto all the screens. For some reason when I try to duplicate, it designates both screens 1 and 2 to the laptop screen, and designates the TVs via a splitter as screen 3. It will only duplicate to 1 and 2, and never 3. If I try to remove screen 2 in the NVidia control panel and just have screen 1 and 3, it extends onto 3 only. As soon as I choose duplicate (win key plus P) screen 2 reappears! Has anyone had any similar issues?? It's a bizarre one for sure. I've attached some screen grabs to hopefully explain better what I'm on about. screen problem - Orchard Academy.docx screen problem - Orchard Academy 2.docx screen problem - Orchard Academy 3.docx
  20. Sadly I don't have a USB/Ethernet adapter, so I'm stuck with wireless! I'm wondering if that is it.
  21. Thanks a lot folks - the GPO I had set up a while ago on our 2008 R2 server, and works fine with our Win 7 Pro laptops, but these new Win 8.1 Pro tablets just don't seem to want to run half of the GPOs... I've also tried to update the group policy templates on the server.
  22. Hi folks - I've got group policies set up on my 2008 r2 DC which force the classic logon and make sure that the last user to log on is not shown. This works fine on all my Windows 7 Pro devices, but we've got some new Windows 8.1 Pro tablets, and I just can't get it to work! Has anyone else experienced this? thanks folks
  23. I must go next year then, for sure!!
  24. I'm gutted I had to miss it - how did it go?
  25. It is something I've had to adjust on the laptops themselves! For some reason, the offline files group policy I set up just wasn't working, so I had to turn off offline files manually, and after deleting old profiles on the laptops (thanks delprof2!), this seems to be working OK now... By the way, these laptops are Windows 7 64 bit, and I'm not running SCCM although I would like to!
