  1. I'm having a little Solus 3 agent issue... I've installed the agent manually on a handful of workstations but none of them show up in the UI. Not sure what to do next really. Any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks
  2. anyone taken the plunge and migrated yet? How does the redirection service work? I will stop hijacking this thread with annoying questions now.
  3. Thanks a lot, that is what I suspected but wasn't sure! cheers
  4. How have people handled the mix of Solus 3 and SQL 2012 so far? All our schools are currently running SQL 2008 - would it be better to upgrade them all to SQL 2012 first and then install Solus 3 afterwards? Just wondering how other support units have done it. Any advice would be appreciated! thanks
  5. OK, just got to section 6 of the installation guide- so basically in order to migrate it to SQL 2012 you have to reinstall it! Did read that correctly?
  6. there certainly isn't much in the release notes about installing it from scratch, or for that matter migrating an existing Solus 3 database from SQL 2008 to 2012...
  7. OK, thanks a lot for that
  8. well I managed to speak to someone at Capita, and he said that you have to put a shared folder in the setup, even if the schools can't reach it. As a support unit we will be using Solus 3 to authorise updates, but they will download them directly from Capita, just like the old CES/Solus 2 set up.
  9. Here's a question - when setting up the Solus 3 server at the LA/Support company end, do you set up a shared folder to download the updates into? The schools we support would not have any access to a shared folder on our system... I thought the schools would download updates directly from Capita, like they do using CES/Solus 2? Can any of you good folks shed any light on this? I've asked Capita to clarify, but it takes a while to get a response... thanks
  10. Yes, the person I spoke to at Capita intimated that in order for schools to get updates via Solus3, the LEA/support organisation would need a central Solus3 server as well. Looks as though CES will be obsolete.
  11. I am sure you're right! Fair enough - thanks a lot for the advice.
  12. OK, thanks a lot for the reply - do you need Solus to run on a seperate instance, or can it run on the same one as SIMS and FMS? Sorry for all the questions.
  13. sorry folks - i have a quick question about SQL versions... so - SIMS and FMS need to run on SQL 2012 by the summer next year, so I've heard - but what about Solus 3? Does that need to run on a seperate 2008 instance?
  14. Thanks very much - I appreciate it! It turns out that the mac server does have workgroup manager on it, and I am finding my way around it now. It seems fairly striaghtforward, which is making my life a lot easirer!
  15. Hi thanks for the reply. Where do I tick `force home directory on startup disk'? The school does have a mac server, but I am still finding my way around it!
  16. just to clarify, the pupils are logging onto their macs with their individual domain user accounts. Each mac has been physically added to the windows domain, with the AD plugin.
  17. Hi folks - there is probably a thread about this already , but there are so many pages I couldn't find what I was looking for! Basically, one of the schools I support has a windows domain, with mostly 2008 R2 servers. The pupils however, use a whole load of macbooks and imacs, running Snow Leopard. On the windows domain, the pupils (who have their own individual logins) get their mapped network drives via a logon script (batch file) , which is set to run at logon via group policy. Obviously this does not work on the macs. I have tried to setting each user's home page to the same shared drive, so they can at least access that, but this actually seems to totally screw up all the program icons along the bottom of the screen when logging into the macs! What I am asking, in a nutshell, is this; is there any way of getting windows domain users to always see multiple network drives, when logging onto macs? The school also has a mac mini server, but I am not au fair with it at all as of yet! thanks for your time,
  18. urgh - I am all too aware that this is a defunct product, and that RM stopped supporting it ages ago, but has anyone ever seen this problem? On all of the RM window box laptops, the classes have been disappearing from classmate manager. When I log onto a laptop as `manager' and then go to open classmate manger, it comes up with an error saying `unable to load classes', and from then on, classmate is blank. This has happened on every laptop I have logged onto so far. When you log on as pupil, no classes are showing... I have restarted everything - storebox, ssmaster etc... I am totally stumped as to what I need to do next. Can someone help me? thanks
