Resetting the WSUS ID has caused them to appear in WSUS, albeit they haven't reported yet. I'll give it some hours and check again.

I used PSGETSID to check some of the PCs in question, and the SIDs are different.

No. Some would have been ghost'd, but SID should have been changed via a Ghost utility. None of our Win 10 PCs are imaged (yet), and some of those are missing also.

Hi folks, I have a problem with WSUS inconsistently listing PCs. I'm using WSUS 6.3.9600.16384 on a 2012 R2 server, in a domain with about 500 Win7 and 10 PCs. The PCs are pointed at WSUS using Group Policy. The specific issue I have is that only around half the PCs are listed in WSUS (under Computers > All Computers). If I check the WindowsUpdate.log of a missing Win 7 PC, it seems to be quite happily getting updates from the WSUS server. If I stop the Windows Update service, delete the WindowsUpdate.log, restart the Windows Update service, and run Windows Update, the PC then seems to appear in WSUS. It's inconsistent though, as I had one PC appear, then disappear again. Can anyone advise on what could be wrong, or where to troubleshoot? Thanks

Turns out these files are locked on purpose to prevent students from seeing the code, and can only be copied onto a Microbit, rather than the editors. Microbit support have been very helpful! https://support.microbit.org

Hi folks, Another Microbit problem. Following the tutorial from this site, Doctor Who and the micro:bit - Mission Decode BBC - Make It Digital - Doctor Who and the micro:bit - Mission Decode It gives five HEX files which we've tried to open at pxt.microbit.org, and only one of them opens. The other four give the error "Sorry, we could not recognise this file." Anyone else come across this, and know if there's a fix? Thanks

The Chrome ADMX files were only put on the DC though (2012 R2). Clients are a mix of Win 7 and 10. I did the same with putting the Win 10 ADMX files locally on the DC, initially.

It's odd, because I just put them in C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions on the DC. I did some testing, and they did seem to have taken effect on clients. This didn't happen with the Creators Update setting though, that seemed to need it in SYSVOL, even to be seen on the DC.

Hmmm, well coincidentally I was after a recent GP item that *didn't* display despite theoretically updating C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions. So I coped first the Win 10 and Server 2016 files to the relevant SYSVOL folder, then updated with the Creator Update files, and now I see the relevant option. So not sure what happened, but updating SYSVOL does appear to be crucial.

And presumably group policy just picks them up from that location? I'm sure I put the Google Chrome ADMX files into C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions, and they seem to be working across the domain.

This shows to install the MSIs on the DC in the C:\Windows directory, so going with this!

Am I right in thinking this is the correct method to update the templates? https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/canitpro/2015/10/20/step-by-step-managing-windows-10-with-administrative-templates/ I'm sure previously I just copied them into C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions, this was when adding templates for Google Chrome. If using the method in the link above, how does Group Policy know where to fetch the templates from?!

Hi folks, Would anyone be happy to share the changes they make in Windows 10, presumably mostly via GP, to lock it down for student use? We've been using RM Ranger to-date with Windows 7, but the plan over the Summer hols is to switch to NetSupport DNA (Ranger's going end-of-life) and deploy either 1607 or 1703 with CM. Any suggestions much appreciated. (I've spotted the sticky for disabling Store, games etc.) Thanks

Ah, we use Room Booking System with the SIMS integration, not School Booking. Just to clarify.

We trialled it, and it was straightforward to use. I think it's a free trial, so easy to test out. Just too expensive for the moment. We use Parents Evening System, another of their offerings, and that's also straightforward to use.
