I found another GPO setting, Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components/Store > Disable all apps from Windows Store. Testing now to see how well this works...

Since reimaging it seems to be OK, so possibly just a quirk of the install. I did have 3 PCs with the DNA client installed, and the other two were fine and not shutting down. I'll contact support if it recurs. Thanks all!

I can't tell now unfortunately as I've just wiped the VM (being rebuilt with SCCM). If it continues I'll post back.

IME Hyper-V would never shutdown a VM, and all other VMs are fine. My guess is it's the NetSupport client, although that aspect is supposed to be disabled. It would just be nice to have some proof of what's doing it

I've mentioned above, but when I look in the Security log I just see the shutdown occurring. I don't see a reason for it. Unless there's another log I should be looking at?

Nothing in the root of the Task Scheduler Library that's doing a shutdown at least.

Hi folks, I've got a test PC that's shutting down at midnight. Is there any way to tell what invoked the shutdown? Event Viewer just shows when the shutdown occurred, at least in the Security log. It's a VM, but power management is set to "High Performance", and it's a full shut down, rather than a suspend. It's got the NetSupport DNA client installed, but power management is turned off for this particular PC. Thanks

I've got it to work via folder redirection, but only by switching to local profiles. This isn't a showstopper, so proceeding on this basis for the moment. It's going to be a bit of a faff deleting all the other common menu items that Win 10 adds, but presumably a logon script can be used to delete that.

Am I right in thinking that UE-V can't be used to prescribe start menus? I couldn't spot any way of doing it. To get folder redirected start menus to work in Win 10 1703 I've had to switch to local profiles.

There's a "Remove common programs list from Start Menu" option, but that's all I've found. And if it did anything, it wasn't much!

@MJTayloronline I've looked into this a bit more, as redirection looks like the ideal solution for us. I seem to have the reverse problem, in that the first login is fine, but from second login the redirected part disappears. Also 1703. Others have suggested this is caused by roaming profiles, so I'm about to test a switch to local profiles. @dry There seem to be various solutions to removing these unwanted Windows apps e.g. removing them from the INSTALL.WIM with DISM, startup script hacks that delete/hide them. A real shame there isn't just a simple group policy switch.

I was trying to use a redirected start menu, but it didn't appear to be working. What I've noticed is that if I delete the profile of an account and login it *does* work. When I logoff and logon successive times it's gone. Aaagh! There's also a problem that a lot of other programs are appearing in the menu, which I've spotted get copied to the user's profile e.g. Alarms & Clock, Calculator etc. This is despite the GP item for common program items being disabled.

Hi folks, We've been using RM Ranger to set a mandatory start menu on Win 7. Over the Summer we're moving to Win 10 with the bulk of Ranger's job done by Group Policy. The one thing I can't figure out though is how to set a mandatory start menu, unless the only option is a mandatory profile? We're currently using roaming profiles. By start menu I'm not referring to the tiles, but the menu to the left with apps listed by name. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm moving away from RM Ranger, which sets a mandatory start menu (and desktop), and also moving from Win 7 to 10. A couple of big projects! I'm trying to decide what the best option would be. It sounds like it could be mandatory, but it seems like quite a faff to setup. Can I ask how you redirected the start menu? I've just started tinkering with it, as part of an overall bigger project to replace Win 7 with Win 10. I've started testing student accounts and am getting odd behaviour. If I delete the redirected profile of a test account the start menu builds properly. Finally got to try it, and... still doesn't work if you use PowerPoints with timed slides. When the second PowerPoint starts up the first PowerPoint pauses. Aaaaagh! Why Microsoft, WHY?! Yes, exactly that. Not tried either of these on Win 7 64 bit. One Head of Department has confirmed that one of the apps can be dispensed with. Just about to break the bad news to the other Head of Department...

Yep, runs absolutely fine on Win 7 with this particular version of Shockwave. The Win 10 issues appears to run deeper as it seemed to use some embedded version of Mozilla (!) which crashes when any content is browsed. Out of 30 apps we're trying to move over to Win 10, this is the second that is incompatible. Both are around 10 years old.

(Aside from the security issues of running the old compatible version of Shockwave)
