Does anyone know if it's available in the 23H2 Education version? No option to enable it on the taskbar. Also, does anyone know whether the 365 Education licenses will get the functionality? This article says "Nothing was said about Microsoft 365 Copilot being available to Microsoft 365 Education licensees." https://redmondmag.com/articles/2023/11/01/microsoft-365-copilot-ga.aspx

[ms office - o365] More Granular Dates/Times with Automatic Replies
Gongalong replied to Gongalong's topic in Office Software
Just to add, we ended up going with Symprex's Out of Office Manager. Much cheaper than Code Two's product (£244/year vs €1,328/year for 100 users), but every reply has to be manually scheduled (they can be applied to an AD group) and I find the app a bit unstable. -
I was just about to add the same thing about the /ALLUSERS switch. We were also trying to deploy and struggling, but GDevelop helpfully (and quickly) replied after initially contacting them on Twitter.

ICO Files. Has the format changed? Getting white icons.
Gongalong replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows 11
Thanks! -
Hi folks, We have some shortcuts that are created on the desktop with custom icon files using group policy. In Windows 11 they are displaying erratically. Some machines show them, some show them as blank white icons. For a misbehaving machine, I have tried manually changing the icons to something else that's within SHELL32.dll and they are fine, but when I change back to the ICO file they are blank again. I have also tried recreating the ICO files at icoconvert.com, which allegedly creates Win 11 compatible ICO files, and they are still white when selected. I have also deleted the iconcache.db file under appdata\local for the user and restarted the PC, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks

Hi folks, We are looking at putting CCTV in our student toilets. We are aware of and have read the ICO article on the subject of CCTV, which covers toilets, need for a DPIA etc. Are there any other DPOs out there in schools that have already done this that are OK with sharing their DPIA, and any other lessons learned? Feel free to contact me via PM. Thanks

That's it, thanks! Retex haven't replied to emails so far, which doesn't bode well. Have sent Anixter an email to see if they have stock and will sell to me. Failing that I'll go the 3rd party lock route.
-
Yep, I suspected the manufacturer would be useless. Still no reply.
-
It does look replaceable as there's a nut or something at the back, and it's a simple latch. Worst case we'll have to replace the lot, but I can at least get into the cab for the moment with a giant bodging screwdriver :-)
-
No number unfortunately. The lock can be removed as it has a nut on the back, so at some point I might remove it and see if there's any identification on it. We've tried all our other cabinet keys and they don't even go into the lock, it's a slightly unusual key.

Hi folks, We have a number of Retex Mininet cabinets that are 10+ years old, used to house wireless access points. Used them for years without an issue and... our two keys have gone missing. I can still break into the cabinet but it would be great to use a proper key. Having no luck so far finding anyone that sells them (no response so far from Retex who are Spanish). None on eBay. Does anyone have these and willing to get a key copied? We will of course pay! Thanks

A mix, and nothing Dell unfortunately. If you have a Logitech mouse and keyboard you can use Logitech Flow as well (not sure if it's restricted to certain models) although I don't have those either. Thanks all for the replies, very helpful!

Hi folks, I currently have a three screen setup with Windows, and also use a Mac Mini (on a fourth screen). Is there an app that will allow me to control the Mac with the same mouse and keyboard as the Windows PC? The absolute ideal is that I can just scroll across from my left-hand screen to MacOS, which sits to the left? So it behaves like a fourth screen in Windows. Thanks

Mostly I just wanted to check that Ruckus hardware is still rock solid. The other things I need from a technical perspective are support for VLANS and multiple SSIDs (we direct the SSIDs to specific VLANs), but I'm guessing any vaguely decent APs will support this. I'm not too fussed about cloud configuration, local config is fine.
-
Sorry, thought I'd put that in the OP. 30 APs. Unless there's very good reason not to we will be reusing existing locations, because we already have cabs for APs, power, and ethernet. We don't have PoE switches to the APs will need PSUs. I hadn't realised about the non-cloud option for Ruckus, so depends if that saves us some money. I'd still like a support contract and extended hardware warranty, if an option.
-
Interesting, no-one has mentioned Unleashed so far. All we've had are quotes for Ruckus Cloud (3, 5, and 7 year options) along with the APs. We'd still want an ongoing hardware warranty and support contract, so not sure how that compares with Ruckus Cloud if we go with on-prem management. (Not sure if Ruckus Cloud includes hardware warranty, but presumably includes support) I'm not convinced we need the cloud option unless there are strong benefits over on-prem, and it's looking like that isn't the case.
-
Seems to have revived. There was a pending Windows update patch. Took 2-3 hours to apply and restart, so perhaps fixed an SSD issue.
-
Is Ruckus Unleashed a particular product range, the cloud system, or something else?
-
Hi folks, We're looking at replacing our ZD3050 with zf7982 Ruckus system. We've been quoted for Ruckus Cloud with R650 APs. We also have an Aruba quote coming. Our previous Ruckus system has been rock solid. Do Ruckus still produce rock solid systems, are we better to look at Aruba, or someone else? Thanks

Hi folks, I've been using Win 11 on a Dell Latitude 5520 for over a year now. Suddenly today it's very slow. Task manager shows nothing at peak load (CPU, memory, disk). I know there has been mention of recent updates causing issues with SSDs, although the last applied update was a few years ago. Windows updates doesn't seem to every finish downloading an update. Dell driver update doesn't open. What is the best repair path in this situation? I have built a Win 11 media install memory stick, so presumably can use that for repair, or a reinstall. Thanks

Hi folks, We are trying out ChatGPT but have been stymied by the limit of requests from a single IP address. OpenAI publish the rate limits for an account, but I can't spot a published limit from an IP address (and they may well be keeping that secret). Does anyone know of a published limit? I can't see that we have any workaround as we aren't going to install another internet connection! Thanks

Hide Drive Group Policy Config Not Appearing
Gongalong replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows Server 2019
Sorted it. I should have been looking at the WindowsExplorer.admx file in the central store. Not sure if that's a wise place to have edited them previously, but that's where the changes were made. -
Hi folks, I've got an issue with updating our group policy config to hide drives. I can’t remember if it was my predecessors or I, but group policy here is configured to hide drives as per this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/group-policy/using-group-policy-objects-hide-specified-drives The DCs were updated a year or three ago and it looks like the system.adm file was replaced. I don’t remember whether the config changes were stored in this or another ADM file, but I can’t spot it in any custom files. Curiously the historic config is still taking effect. I have copied system.adm file and added the additional drive settings to hide, added that to administrative templates as a custom policy template and… my changes don’t appear in the policy editor. Anyone have any ideas as to why the custom adm file isn’t taking effect? Thanks

22H2 Enablement Package via MEMCM. Compliant yet still 20H2
Gongalong replied to Gongalong's topic in Windows 10
Solved I think. I had to deploy the latest servicing stack and cumulative update for the relevant Win 10 version, then the enablement package works. They don't show under a category so presumably have to be deployed manually, which is how I'm doing it. I want to test with one more machine, and if that's OK I will deploy to the remainder.
