Does anybody please know a way to edit (via GP) the shortcuts at the top of the start menu? http://i39.tinypic.com/2qlhi6c.jpg We have Outlook for the staff and OWA for the students, i would like to change the Outlook shortcut. I have found where to remove the shortcuts, but nowhere to edit them? Policy: Remove pinned programs list from the Start Menu This policy setting is contained within the "STARTMENU.ADMX" policy template file. If you enable this setting, the "Pinned Programs" list is removed from the Start menu, and the Internet and Email checkboxes are removed from the simple Start menu customization CPL. If you disable this setting or do not configure it, the "Pinned Programs" list remains on the simple Start menu Anybody seen anything that may help? TIA

Local Administrator - Profile doesnt sync back to server?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Hi, thanks for the reply, I also tested this with our test teacher, i erased all his profiles (network and local) and added him to the local admins group on the exam PC. When i logged in, the empty folder was created on the server, but when i logged off there were again no changes. I moved the pc into the standard COMPUTERS folder with no GPs applying and the same happened. I will test tmrw without any user GPs applied As soon as i removed the test account from the local admin group, rebooted and then logged in/out the profile folder updated on the server. Am i right in thinking that this isnt expected behaivour? There are no errors in the event viewer Cheers -
We have had to make our exam officer a local admin on her machine, as it is needed for the RM Connect software to work correctly. But, since we have done this, when ever she logs off, her profile does not update back to the server? If i completely remove her server copy of her profile, when she logs in it creates a new proifle folder. but when logging off it doesnt copy anything over As soon as i remove her from local admins group her profile then synchronizes just fine? Is this how it is supposed to be? Or am i missing something? Cheers in advance

No one seems to have tried this Help desk then i guess..... We tried using a free helpdesk and then 2 years ago we purchased "Track It Pro" but however much we ask the teachers they will not goto a website and fill in the ticket. they will email ictsupport and we end up with incomplete tickets... BUT with CCS being fully exchange intergrated they (and us) only have to use the outlook for everything. Theres even a add-in "New Help Request" button in outlook for them to hit. Everything is filled in automatically from AD It also intergrates with the Tasks section of outlook which is awesome! http://i42.tinypic.com/28coja1.jpg Will let you know how we get on when the trial finishes, best Help desk ive used to date
-
Has anybody here tried CCS Help Desk? I have it installed on the trial and it looks pretty good, its only a one off £300 licence for Schools. It is an Exchange add-on and uses the public folders and the To Do / tasks in Outlook, so the teacher have no excuse now not to use the toolbar addon in outlook to submit a ticket Preview Here: http://crowcanyon.com/ccs_helpdesk_40/CCSHD42_skin.swf

burgemaster replied to plexer's topic in EduGeek Self Service Password Reset
M$ highly recommend that IIS not be installed on a DC, and defo not to external internet. We will hopefully be launching SSR in the new school year (from our IIS server) but only if a new fix comes out from the guys Cheers -

"Have a separate list for students and staff. This is usually done to stop students sending email to all the staff. " This is just what we were after. We currently have all staff and students in the Global address List, but all students have "Hide from Exchange Adress List" checked. This means students cannot see staff. Staff unfortunetly cannot see any students, and students cant see anyone at all. Not really ideal. We were looking for a way to have 2 global address lists, one for staff and one students, so then staff could search student address`s and students could search for students (but not staff). We ran out of time and a few people said this wasnt possible. Could someone please point us in the direction of seting up 2 GAL`s, Staff and Students and how to restrict the Student GAL seeing the Staff GAL ? Staff use outlook, Students use OWA. Thanks in advance

Self Service Password Reset
burgemaster replied to plexer's topic in EduGeek Self Service Password Reset
hi all, I am just giving this a spin, looks great ! I have installed as per instructions. Register and Update both work fine, if i register it then see`s that i am in the database and goes onto the homepage etc etc The update works fine, i need correct details log in and update... BUT I am getting Error: Unable to Bind to Container I have tested by setting the cred.xml to use a domain admin account, and i have entered my FQDN in the config. I am testing by running reset/index.asp logged in as a domain admin, it doesnt make any difference that im not using the locked down resetpassword account does it? Any help would be great, Thanks in advance We have 2 x DCs and this is installed on our dedicated IIS server We have all out students in separate folders, ie. Top is "Schoolname Users" then folder for "Students" then inside that there are separate folders ie. Year05/6/7/8/9 with the students in. If i login to the admin part i can see my AD details, so there must be some AD intergration. But when I verify and then try to change password i get: Resetting password for XXX ... An unexpected error occurred in the execution of this page Please report the following information to an Administrator Page Error Object Error Number: 450 Error Description: Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error LineNumber: 0 Allowed Attributes: -

We have a Samsung CLP-510 Network, we stupidly left the webmin Security option unticked, it looks like a students has logged into the printers webpage and set a password!! Samsung firstly took 35minutes to accept there was a password option within the printer (asking me to enter windows auth or contact the IT department!) They then said that this password cannot be reset !! I told her that this was a new printer and we need to reset this password, she said sorry, is there anything else i can help you with? I then called Digicare who do Samsungs repairs, they suggested that it cannot be done. This surely cannot be true !!! You have to throw a brand new printer away just because the password is set? http://i39.tinypic.com/2cp7od1.jpg

external webpage shows credentials login everytime? IIS setup?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
All sorted. There was a 2nd virtual Directory as well as Eportal called "Jakarta" that i think was the apache side of it. This had "Windows Intergration" ticked. As the Microsoft link said, it would try the most secure auth method first, so i guess it was trying windows auth and then failing and using the guest account Thanks for the replies everyone :) -

external webpage shows credentials login everytime? IIS setup?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
not sure if windows should be ticked or not? it doesnt make any difference to the problem... BUT.... i unticked Annon Access and then tested, it this time NEEDED a legit user/pass... i then RETICKED anonn access and it still needs a username and pass, where as before it needed any text typed into it.. So can i just reset that IUSR_ISS account pass? and update in IIS? Will it have a knock on for other things? Thanks for the replies -

external webpage shows credentials login everytime? IIS setup?
burgemaster posted a topic in Windows
Hi all, We have made Eportal (Our MIS registration webpage) external.. It was working fine until they released a new upgrade and i had to remove everything from IIS and re install it... Now when they reach the external page a weird credentials box pops up ? it looks like its logginginto its self? http://i44.tinypic.com/2rclf8h.jpg You can enter anything you want into either Username or password and it loads just fine, just need to get rid of this credentials box !! If i try and enter the webpage via the IP address it does the same. Has anyone any suggestions please? If you cancel you get the following error.. http://i39.tinypic.com/rbmm91.jpg
