The only option we can find in the policy is to delete all data on logoff, so not a full wipe, but it does remove all user data and the apps that are applied, which is annoying

Yep, that is the current idea, my tech is currently working on Kiosk mode and a selection of apps. Then it should wipe user data on logoff and hopefully keep the apps, as at the moment they are set to wipe all on logoff(no granularisation on that one that I can find) and it takes ages and plus de bandwidth to reinstall them on startup.

Thanks for the input, we can't(don't want to) add the students with an upload, they only exist in a bespoke SQL database that runs our home built MIS, it's asp.net based and as such no password data can be pulled over and as the students already have their moodle numbers for VLE access(from the SQL), and an Office365 account, we don't want to muddy that with a further log in. In terms of 1 chromebook, 1 login, we can't have one account for all, due to Drive doing fun things with multiple users on same account. I know we are cludging it, but 160 logins for 160 chromebooks, was really the best option we came up with, in terms of time to accomplish and how much admin would be needed afterwards(without a sync, student specific logins would be far more of an ar*e, as we have students starting and finishing all the time, not a fixed amount at start of year/term)

Morning all, As alluded to in the title, is it possible for me to create a load of accounts in google admin and then assign 1 to each of our chromebooks, and only allow that account to that chromebook. We don't have students in the system, and we thought we could use 1 user for all chromebooks, which we can, but it causes problems in drive, as everyone starts sharing the same file!! Any insights or fixes to this problem(don't really want to import all the students into GAFE, and have yet another non-synced system(we don't have them in AD either, so no simple sync)), Thanks James

Afternoon all, I am thinking about migrating our current DA/VPN to AOVPN, but the MS guides are shockingly vague or send you off to some far flung part of the net for different solution. anyone have a decent guide? Oh and make sure you keep a copy of the adopt password somewhere safe, having to manually visit and reset a load of AP's after a controller crash and rebuild is not fun. Although to put your mind at rest from that statement, the controller is pretty rock solid, deleting the wrong VM isn't....

Looks good to me, hook it all up, load up the controller on an Ubuntu instance(it can be done with CENTOS, but most instructionals are on Ubuntu Server), setup your SSID's, make sure all used VLANS are available on the switches and the ports that the AP's are connected to, then adopt all the AP's and let it ride

I know, but we are such a learned(read:nerdy)bunch, I thought I would ask! I don't use the 1030 at the moment, I just direct HDMI connect to the TV and use the soundbar for better sound, but I don't have surround with this setup. As far as I can work out, if I output to the soundbar on one HDMI out, it should process the signal into 2.1 using the soundbar electrickery, and on the amp itself it should process the whole shebang(5.1, 7.1,5.1.2 etc) and output to the speakers connected, ie the rear ones. It just depends on processing time/sync, as their would be an extra processing step in the soundbar. It won't matter about ATMOS, and I know this wouldn't work anyway, as the 2.1 in the soundbar wouldn't be object based. Just a nerdy idea, and I will probably end up ditching the soundbar and going normal speakers anyway, just the soundbar is already there! Thanks for the reply James

Afternoon all, I've got an existing AV amp, STR-DN1030, but it's not 4k, so at the moment I have a cambridge audio hdmi 2.1 sound bar(the one with wireless connection to a sub). Crazy idea time, I am thinking of selling the 1030 and upgrading to the 1080 or an Onkyo NR636. Now, both these have a second HDMI out, so could I run rears on the amp and fronts using the second HDMI out? only problems I can think of, is processing time and off-set sound, but surely amp should output 2.1 to the one hdmi out and then process 5.1/7.1 inhouse but only out put the rear. It's only cos I have everything mounted to the wall and I like the look of the soundbar and the sub. Any pitfalls anyone can think of? thanks James

Secure doesn't mean compliant. I suppose as long as you have mitigated risks, no protected data to be shared, make sure the app doesn't have any access to any protected data on the device it is being used on, etc, etc. I'm still not trusting the platform as far as I can fling it!

Yes, it will be put like that in the policy, but I really want a paragraph to why to stop people asking loads of questions I have gone with, so far in my draft: WhatsApp is a global messaging platform and as such is a great way to communicate with others, but it is not fit for use in business under the terms of the GDPR and general compliance. When the app is installed you give permission for them to access your address book and other aspects of the device being used, and this data is then communicated to servers in the US, where we have no control and it has been proven that while the data is encrypted end to end the metadata is not, this metadata contains: -Your name, mobile number, IP address, location, mobile network and your mobile handset type. -With whom you are chatting, for how long and at what time. And your contacts as well. Also as the data is encrypted end to end, we have no access to that data once out in the world so therefore no control over that data, only the sender and the recipient have access, and that causes problems if the data is about another party. Just not sure how much of that is rollocks and how much is truth, I think it all still stands, but things change in the quick world of messaging!

Morning all, We already block most social networks and messengers on our LAN's, but we still need to get the message across(see what I did there) to staff that they shouldn't be using services like WhatsApp for business use and the conveying of any protected data on those devices, even installing it on a business device, as it will need access to the address book, and hold this in the US, where it has been proven that while they encrypt all data, they don't encrypt the metadata, and this can still provide a multitude of personal data to be floating around. Anyone already have a policy for this, and would like to share the wording used? I am struggling to not come across as a complete draconian dick(which I am, but I need my cloak of nice guyishness to stay intact ) Thanks James
