Morning all, The powers that be are asking me what is needed in terms of licensing for showing a BBC news feed as part of our signage in reception. This would be shown to the staff, students and public. I've tried searching and found conflicting info, from just a normal TV license to PRS and PPL, to ERA and ERA+. Anyone do this and know what licencing is actually needed? thanks James

I am still awaiting confirmation yey or ney. I am all for validation, but sometimes it's a tad too much. It may be because we are not on the gov.uk schools/colleges register, which I assume is a very easy way for them to confirm status.

Good points well made. It's all well and good protecting fixed domain controlled clients, it's all the lovely students personal devices hanging off our wifi! We are expecting OFSTED in weeks/months, and I won't be the weak link I think restrict.youtube.com on all wifi will be the way forward for the moment. Thanks James

Yeah, I know, it's not so much the servers though, its the SAN that is a barnyard to get support on. Dell wanted something like £7k for a year of 4hr prosupport for it(taking it down to NBD was still £5k)!! Aftermarket was a bit better, but still low thousands. We took the business decision to refresh all the hardware and then try and recoup some pennies(hopefully many thousands of them) to offset later on when we have finished migrating. and they look so "pretty" with their new DELLEMC honeycomb fronts on. Did wish I had bought the bluetooth one touch setup system, but just wasn't worth it on 3 servers, 30 maybe but not 3!

I know I vented and regretted it a tiny bit. They have now come back and said: Thank you for letting us know. We will review your application and email you ASAP. So probably a no lol

Hoops jumped through, but still want us to find ourselves on the https://get-information-schools.service.gov.uk/ and http://childrenscentresfinder.direct.gov.uk/childrenscentresfinder websites. We are not on the former, being a private college with only some government funding and the second doesn't work and we aren't a childrens centre!! I might have been a bit annoyed and replied with: "At this point, I do not know what you are trying to get me to prove, we have an ac.uk address, only available to educational establishments, we have provided our OFSTED report, which is only performed on educational establishments." We will get there, but so many hoops!!

I added our ac.uk domain, but still need an email from the official email listed on our website, and the 3 docs! I have sent them our last OFSTED report, which lists us as NFP, and educational, so waiting to see if they will accept the one doc as proof

Morning all, We are signing up for Google Suite for Education, and they are making us jump through hoops. They want an OFSTED report, accreditation docs and proof of non-profit status. What have other further education colleges provided for the accreditation part? Thanks James

Afternoon all, Another thread on filtering... Having sorted the YouTube restrictions with Google Suite, I am now wanting to implement some kind of keyword blocking. I am looking at using a squid server as a proxy, but I am not sure how this works with HTTPS. From my understanding Squid uses a man in the middle attack for inspection, which would usually need a cert installing on all clients, as the inspected site will effectively have the SSL trail of security broken. Is there anyway for squid to break open the SSL site, look for the keywords, block if needed, if not then allow access to the site without needing the cert installed on all the clients. As I am not sure how this kind of thing works with client we have no control over, ie wireless devices, guest devices etc? Is this even possible? Thanks James

Well, something is back up there, and now it shows a key is not needed, so it seems the fix is to remove the key security entirely! Will have to test later

I agree, quite boring really. Is it just me or does Phillipa sound like KITT when she addresses Michael as Michael? I was hoping for a classic Star Trek cliffhanger, like Picard left on the cube, transformed into Locutus and Riker commanding Worf to fire, or when we see a mahoosive fleet of all kind of Alpha Quadrant ships after the taking of DS9 by the Dominion. Proper cliffhangers, not just meeting "another ship" in distress.

Well that was a hateful process, I give MS some crap for their arcane rituals, but at least their O365 setup works. I have found the GSFE a nightmare. Mostly easy to get going, until I thought I would sync my lecturers using the dir sync tool, wow what a tool, I know it's meant to cover a multitude of sins, but it makes no sense, doesn't seem to sync passwords until the next time someone changes it. Ok, no problem, I will enter them manually using a CSV, we are only testing after all. Then I went to set the YouTube permissions, all good, so manually entered a lecturers details and got her to sign into YouTube, that would be a no, she is ineligible to access YouTube, turns out there is no YouTube access until you are activated and out of trial, ie pay them or be recognised as an education institution, which is the 2 week thing they had mentioned. So useless until they agree we are education

Yes, I think you are right, I am going to have to setup GAFE, although they say it could take 2 weeks once domain verification has been completed!!!

Morning all, Following on from installing the DNS settings for restrict.youtube.com or restrict-moderate.youtube.com in our domain, as per my other post. This is great and works, BUT as we are a primarily land based college with a focus on Veterinary studies, a lot of our videos come under the restrictions. So it's great for getting rid of bad content, it also stops normal(for us) content. We don't really want to set up a GAFE domain just to allow videos for our lecturing staff, but if that's the only option. Anyone got any bright ideas how we can give access to full youtube by AD group, or a facility to access restricted and non-restricted content? I've looked at Squid proxys, our firewall, access by IP, even thought about hosts files on the lecturing PC's. There must be a better way than you must have a GAFE domain Or..as the main idea for restricting youtube was the fact we could pretty much get any content up, ie jihadist nastiness etc, whihc was blocked by our filters in normal web, but not in YouTube. So other options to block that content would be good too! Thankyou Ofsted(or at least we can hear the foot steps, as we must be due soon) Thanks for any ideas in advance. James

Brave? not really, I just want it on my new system which doesn't go into production until Easter, so I can test functionality, mainly ESXi/VCenter agentless backup, which they never got into normal 2016, but did into the last versions of 2012R2! Welcome to the club, no go on 1801 DPM key, phoned them, please email, email says phone them. Just renewed our contract so SA not quite live yet. As long as you are on a ms contract, you should have SA, it can be found in the VLSC under SA on the top tabs and then pick 24x7 Problem Resolution Support, the SA ID you need for support should be in there somewhere! Or so I am told, I'm stuck waiting for the VLSC to add my new agreement, and I can't play with 1801 DPM

There are 3 ways of doing it: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6214622?hl=en I went for Option 1, but did it differently. I created new Primary Forward Zones in MS DNS for each listed URL and then created an A record in each zone pointing to the IP, 216.239.38.120(restrict.youtube.com) or for a less restrictive version 216.239.38.119(restrictmoderate.youtube.com). I couldn't get CNAME/DNAME as documented to work. As per the link, you can inject into http headers or use chrome policies on chromebooks, and you also use g-suite if you have that capability with full accounting, i believe. The only problem I envisage is just how restrictive it is! Time will tell

Ok fixed it by adding HOST A Name pointing to 216.239.38.120 instead of CNAME/DNAME to restrict.youtube.com tldr Ofsted are apparently asking to check searching for extremist content on schools/colleges networks. We have good filtering, but it doesn't filter videos.... It does now!
