Thanks for the headsup on that one, just read the reports, 15-20k for a single site , going up a high as 100k for multisite, complicated setups. That's going to hurt the institutions on it who will need to start paying in 2019. Think we will stay on our leased lines, much cheaper!(although that's not my priority, but may be the boss's...)

Morning all, Can anyone explain what JANET actually is? It is a normal rebadged leased line, or is it something else, or is it just a service on top of normal infrastucture? Is it actually worth being part of? The website is suitably vague on technical details. Or is it first rule of JANET club? I only ask as the boss mentioned it in passing that he wanted to join, and I am pre-empting the inevitable "find-out for me" question. Thanks James

Morning all, We are rolling out GAFE to our lecturers, so they can log into youtube and bypass the restrictions we have put in place in DNS, so they can access content that is blocked(being a veterinary college some videos including surgery etc are blocked in the moderate settings). The problem I have is that when the person logs in with their domain password it asks them to change it(we use password sync on a DC), can this be changed GAFE wide or have I mucked up on the import and need to start over? thanks James

We are an O365 environment, so Chromebooks wouldn't be a fit, as we don't have G-suite for Education(that is available to students anyway) and I've yet to see anything running Windows 10s

Morning all, We have cabinets full of Asus netbooks that are "starting" to have failing batteries, war wounds etc, and we have always had problems replacing them as the "netbook" 10" cheap laptop suddenly became Ultrabooks with a whacking great price attached and the netbook moniker just sort of went away. I saw from the reports from BETT that Lenovo were bringing an education 11e netbooky type cheap laptop to market, but cannot find them anywhere Anyone else have this problem? How do you refresh them with the category effectively gone or dwindling? Budget up to £250 Thanks James

Stargate Origins, ep 10, what the heck was that load of bobbins? Did the director need the loo, did they run out of money, did the writers have the day off? "Quick, it's the last episode, we need a way to explain why no one remembers visiting a sandy planet through a big disc", Admittedly "writers" may be an overstatement, wasn't the best overall, but I did enjoy being back in that world. Oh and why do the Goa'uld keep calling it the Stargate, shouldn't it be the Chappa'ai? I don't remember them referring to it as a Stargate in the film or SG1(even though that is the translation DJ got for it's name, but from a translation of hieroglyphs not Goa'uld)

Watched Counterpart on a suggestion from above. Bit slow to start while they set the premise up, but just finished Ep2 and will be continuing. Loving the green text terminals and the sense that Germany never really modernised...but then you see cool mobile tech, nice juxtaposition really.
